1 What a Difference a Year Makes! Wow! It’s hard to believe that I arrived at St. Pe- ter’s a year ago. My friend, Javier, and I pulled into St. Peter’s parking lot on Labor Day 2016. The following day a crew arrived and began unloading my posses- sions and I began to make my home at St. Peter’s. I have never once regretted answering St. Peter’s Call into ministry. I believed we belonged together in 2016, and that belief holds a year later. We were meant to walk together as a faith community. Serving as your pastor has been the greatest joy – and challenge – of my life. I have grown to know you and love you. We have faced good times and bad; we have questioned and struggled; we have studied and learned; we have partied and celebrated; and we have continued to love and serve the God of our faith. We have many challenges before us still. The world is, frankly, a more troubled one than a year ago. We face greater uncertainties whether it be from dra- matic weather events, to political and social unrest, a growing drug addiction epidemic, a resurgence of ra- cial discrimination, and more. The world needs God; the world needs people of God; the world needs …. us. St. Peter’s is on the threshold of something new, inviting and compelling. We are actively preparing St. Peter’s to welcome and comfort those who may feel lost and overwhelmed by the many uncertainties of life. We are exploring new ways of worship, with new tools and practices. And we are honoring our traditions that have fed us throughout our history. We are examining our governance model and ex- panding representation on the Council. We are examin- ing our ministries to assure that we are reaching out into our community, bringing the Good News of Jesus, and demonstrating our belief in God by our active en- gagement within our community and the world. And we’re examining our own spiritual beliefs and needs, preparing ourselves for the coming days when the lost and hungry turn to us. In mid-October, we are adding a second worship service. It will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM in the Chapel. Key elements of this service will incorpo- rate meditation, prayer, study of scripture, singing, and personal interaction. We will share in Christ’s cosmic and holy meal each week, breaking bread and sharing wine, as we journey together. We hope to create a per- sonal and interpersonal worship experience. I’ve learned many things from the folks at St. Pe- ter’s, but one thing far out-distances the others – and that is our love of God and our desire to be God’s agents of love, comfort, guidance, and empowerment. Together, we are living our faith. Together we are striv- ing to be our best selves bringing hope and peace to a troubled world. There is still much to be done. And each one of us can be a part of creating an oasis of God’s love at St. Peter’s. We are a powerful group of believers and we stand on the threshold of new and bold things at St. Peter’s. As I celebrate my one-year anniversary as your pastor, I am filled with gratitude for your love and sup- port. I am humbled by your willingness to explore new ideas, new ways of worship, and new ways of serving God. Together, united in our faith and our love for God and St. Peter’s, we journey onward. What a Difference a Year Makes!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that I arrived at St. Pe-

ter’s a year ago. My friend, Javier, and I pulled into St.

Peter’s parking lot on Labor Day 2016. The following

day a crew arrived and began unloading my posses-

sions and I began to make my home at St. Peter’s.

I have never once regretted answering St. Peter’s

Call into ministry. I believed we belonged together in

2016, and that belief holds a year later. We were meant

to walk together as a faith community.

Serving as your pastor has been the greatest joy –

and challenge – of my life. I have grown to know you

and love you. We have faced good times and bad; we

have questioned and struggled; we have studied and

learned; we have partied and celebrated; and we have

continued to love and serve the God of our faith.

We have many challenges before us still. The

world is, frankly, a more troubled one than a year ago.

We face greater uncertainties whether it be from dra-

matic weather events, to political and social unrest, a

growing drug addiction epidemic, a resurgence of ra-

cial discrimination, and more. The world needs God;

the world needs people of God; the world needs …. us.

St. Peter’s is on the threshold of something new,

inviting and compelling. We are actively preparing St.

Peter’s to welcome and comfort those who may feel

lost and overwhelmed by the many uncertainties of

life. We are exploring new ways of worship, with new

tools and practices. And we are honoring our traditions

that have fed us throughout our history.

We are examining our governance model and ex-

panding representation on the Council. We are examin-

ing our ministries to assure that we are reaching out

into our community, bringing the Good News of Jesus,

and demonstrating our belief in God by our active en-

gagement within our community and the world. And

we’re examining our own spiritual beliefs and needs,

preparing ourselves for the coming days when the lost

and hungry turn to us.

In mid-October, we are adding a second worship

service. It will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM

in the Chapel. Key elements of this service will incorpo-

rate meditation, prayer, study of scripture, singing, and

personal interaction. We will share in Christ’s cosmic

and holy meal each week, breaking bread and sharing

wine, as we journey together. We hope to create a per-

sonal and interpersonal worship experience.

I’ve learned many things from the folks at St. Pe-

ter’s, but one thing far out-distances the others – and

that is our love of God and our desire to be God’s

agents of love, comfort, guidance, and empowerment.

Together, we are living our faith. Together we are striv-

ing to be our best selves bringing hope and peace to a

troubled world.

There is still much to be done. And each one of us

can be a part of creating an oasis of God’s love at St.

Peter’s. We are a powerful group of believers and we

stand on the threshold of new and bold things at St.

Peter’s.

As I celebrate my one-year anniversary as your

pastor, I am filled with gratitude for your love and sup-

port. I am humbled by your willingness to explore new

ideas, new ways of worship, and new ways of serving

God. Together, united in our faith and our love for God

and St. Peter’s, we journey onward.

PRESCHOOL UPDATE

August and September Preschool News

It is hard to believe that September is already

here! Where did the summer go? The preschool

classes are once again full. What a blessing! We

have so many fun and exciting activates and

fieldtrips planned for the school year.

Our first field trip will be to Gede’s Fruit Farm to

pick some apples and a pumpkin. We look forward

to the hayride and learning the fun facts of bee

keeping. This month the children will be learning

about friendship and sharing. We will also learn

the letter Aa and the color red!

Please say a quick prayer for the staff, students

and parents as we start out the year. It is so nice to

have the love and support of the church on our

side.

Sincerely, Wendy Kosakowski/Director

SCHOLARSHIP THANK YOUS

Dear St. Peter’s community,

Thank you endlessly for the generous scholarship! I can’t stress enough how thankful I

am and blessed to have been raised in such a generous community. This church has done

so much for my family and I and I can’t say thank you enough!

With love,

Becky Kosakowski

Dear St. Peter’s Church,

Thank you so much for awarding me with the generous scholarship! I am very

excited to start my future at Ohio University, and this money will help greatly

in the financial side of things. Growing up in a church like St. Peter’s really

helped shape me into the person I am today and I could not be more blessed!

With love,

Dana Swift

McDonald’s Night for Preschool

The Preschool will have their first McDonald's

Fundraiser Night on Wednesday, October 11 from 4

-7 PM.

All you have to do is come to McDonald’s on

Leavitt Road and eat, even going through the drive-

thru counts. The preschool will receive up to 15%

of all sales which would help with upcoming pro-

jects and field trips.

The children can come and visit with their pre-

school friends and make sure they say Hi to the pre-

school staff to receive a cool stamp.

Please pass the word around and invite friends,

family and come enjoy the fellowship and have

some fun.

Food Bank

In the month of August, a total of 67 items

were taken to Good Shephard Baptist Church

Food Bank. Thank you for your generous dona-

tions. This month we are collecting cans of tuna,

peanut butter, toilet paper, and a variety of soaps.

Greeters

Do you know that a warm and friendly greet-

ing can be the first step of receiving new mem-

bers at St. Peter’s? It’s true!

We have three entrances into our Sanctuary:

Elevator Entrance, the stone-steps (front) en-

trance, and the Walker Lobby (main) entrance.

And we need a GREETER at each of these en-

trances.

It’s so easy! Find the Sign-up sheet in Fire-

side Room Lobby and select a Sunday to partici-

pate and sign up. On your Sunday, arrive by 9:45

and go to your selected entrance and be pre-

pared to shake hands, offer a friendly smile, and

a warm welcome to worship.

Easy-peasy.

We need you. YOU make a difference.

Please join in this ministry of welcoming!

Sunday School Moves to an Hour Sunday school is now an HOUR long! Please

drop your children off in their Sunday school room

before you head to worship. Your child will stay

with us until you pick them up at the end of wor-

ship. This will allow us more learning time and

more fun!

Trunk or Treat

St. Peter’s is having

our annual Trunk or Treat

in the church parking lot

on Sunday, October 29th

5:30-7:00 PM following

the Amherst parade.

We invite everyone to come and enjoy them-

selves. Each team will have treats and candy and

spooky fun.

If you are interested in hosting a car, complete

the form on page 11. There will also be a decorating

contest for those that wish to participate.

WeeWigglers

During Family Worship Sunday, all children are

invited to remain in the sanctuary. This can be

daunting for our younger kiddos. Jennifer Wasilk

has graciously volunteered to sit with our youngest

children who are invited to “Wee Wigglers” in the

Sunday School Room # 201. The children will go

upstairs with Mrs. Wasilk after the noisy collection

for some learning and fun.

PRAYER LIST

May Poor, George Small and Marge Marshall St. Peter’s UCC Amherst OH celebrate being born between 1917-1927.

Dear Friends at St. Peter’s,

I want to express my thanks for the lovely reception given to honor

members 90 plus years. It was a lovely affair and is thoughtful of those

who planned and carried it out.

I was speechless to have been honored with the beautiful veteran’s

quilt made and presented by Dave and Teri Walter. I will surely treasure

it and am truly honored.

I do not feel worthy of it though as so many did so much more

than I.

Bless all of you and ever so many thanks.

Love,

Marge Marshall

Welcome to Our Newest Members

Meet Dwight and Janet Siron, from Wakeman Ohio.

Dwight and Janet were married in 1968 and will be cel-

ebrating their 40th year anniversary in March 2018.

Now living in Wakeman, the Siron’s have created a

lovely home in an idyllic natural setting. Dwight is re-

tired from Nordson, and Janet is retired from Ford Mo-

tor company.

The Siron’s have two grown children, son Jonathon

and daughter Julie.

The Siron’s enjoy our church very much and are

pleased to become a part of St. Peter’s.

Meet Mary-K Kirsch from South Amherst, Ohio.

Mary-K brings her love of God and passion to build

God’s Kingdom by participating in Worship as a Wor-

ship leader.

Mary-K remembers being warmly greeted and

welcomed when she was a guest at St. Peter’s. This

loving experience has led her to serve on the Wel-

coming Committee. Mary-K is looking for some folks

to join her in this vital ministry.

Mary-K has two adult children, Macy and Mike

and a granddaughter, Liliana.

Independent and enthusiastic, Mary-K is a suc-

cessful Sales Director for Mary Kay Cosmetics. (Isn’t

that perfect!)

Meet the new administrative secretary, Katrina “Katie”

DeLayne Yarnell. She has been a resident of Amherst for the

last six years and she currently lives with her Great Grand-

mother, helping her when needed.

Katie graduated from Clearview High School and went on

to take classes at Lorain Community College in Psychology

and some courses at Ohio Business College.

Her hobbies include collecting comic and antique books,

spending time with her Godson, and spoiling her dog, Nova, a

long-haired dachshund.

A warm welcome to Dwight, Janet and Mary-K!
