What a Ride! Hurricane Irma has come and gone. We are so lucky to

have as little damage as we did. Thanks to all who pitched in and helped within the

community. We have such a great, giving and caring community. Thanks to the crew that organized and ran “Café Irma” for days using donations of food, ice, water, paper goods as well as “muscle power.” Thanks to all who picked up branches and trash for neighbors who couldn’t do so. Thanks to those who checked on neighbors and made sure they had food and water.

Thanks to Joanne Mickett for keeping our water and sewer

systems operating by having fuel and maintenance planned before the storm. She worked countless hours caring and coordinating our community recovery.

Our community was the only Sun Community in our

region that organized and served meals for days when some residents didn’t have power.

Our Saddle Oak Club Community is awesome!

Café Irma

After hurricane Irma knocked out electricity for Saddle Oak Club, the front half (closest to Rt 200) had power restored days before the back section. The clubhouse was in the lucky front half, and Sun Communities kept the doors open so that people could enjoy the air conditioning. Many people donated food to the clubhouse that would have spoiled with no electricity in their homes. HOA members organized volunteers to use donated food in the clubhouse kitchen, serving meals until the power was restored to all homes.

Thanks to all who helped with “Café Irma” by donating, cooking, serving, and cleaning up for days at the Club House. They came up with a multitude of ways to cook chicken! HOA Board

Thanks go out to John Blacker for sharpening all of the kitchen knives. It will be so pleasant to “slice” items now instead of having to “saw” items. Beware, they are now very sharp. Kitchen Crew

POST IRMA RESIDENT APPRECIATION PIZZA PARTY MONDAY, OCTOBER 16

TH

4:00PM AT CLUBHOUSE

Dear Residents,

I would like to thank you all for your patience and help during a very trying and stressful time. A special thanks to Gloria Paige and Chuck St Peter for being my eyes and ears during the storm. They were out checking on residents who had stayed behind during the mandatory evacuation and keeping me informed on who had left for safer places.

We were all very excited when the clubhouse came back on line but we had to close it early for everyone's safety as there was a curfew in effect in Marion County and the sheriff came in on patrol to keep an eye on things for us.

When the other part of our community did not get power, Gloria spearheaded an effort to collect food from freezers that were quickly thawing out and gathered up a group of volunteers to cook it all to feed all our residents. All those without the luxury of power, including herself, and even those with power, were cooling down in the clubhouse.

Outside, the chaos was becoming more orderly. We had a team of volunteers helping those that could not do for themselves, cleaning up yards and debris - even the roads. Aided by our lawn care vendor Drew and his staff with one of our very own volunteer residents, Don Johnson, and Chuck (and yes folks Cindy too!) picked up debris being cleared by our residents and neighbors and put 'curbside'. Vern worked his magic keeping the debris neat and organized in the retention area and started putting things back together so we could resume our lives.

We still have a lot of cleanup to do but with your patience we will get through it all. It will take a while but know that I have a long list to be worked on by Marion Tree and the fence company. Please be patient.

With so many people helping out it is hard to name them all, but please know that I am grateful to be your humble manager of such a fantastic community.

What a great community we have!

Thank you all!

Joanne Mickett, Community Manager
