How Do I Gain These Skills?

Internships:An internship experience provides students the

opportunity to apply classroom instruction to work settings. The student intern receives academic credit and in some cases is also paid.

Can be from 1 semester to more than one. A student can have more than one internship experience.

Benefits Of An Internship

• 1. Opportunity to apply classroom learning to actual work experience.

• 2. Opportunity for new “learning” from the work experience.

• 3. Develop Self Confidence and Professional Skills.

• 4. Begin “Networking” Process

Eligibility Process

1. Available at Soph. level. Placements usually take place 1 year after completion of soph. year

2. Meet minimum credit requirements

3. Required GPA 2.5

4. Approval by appropriate academic division

1. Fill out Internship App., return to Career Services.

2. Meet with Career Services Director (Marcia Foss).

3. Begin work on Resume

4. Complete Learning Contract when placement found.

5. Student must keep a weekly log of their experience.

6. Upon completion, must fill out evaluation.

• Coordinated through Marcia Foss in Career Services Office.

• Job Shadow someone in area of employment you are interested in.

• One to Two hour experience.

• Example:Ride along with Barnes County Sheriff’s Dept.

• 3. Attend On Campus Company Presentations. We have had representatives from Microsoft Great Plains, Eide Bailly, Northwestern Mutual, McDonalds, Lutheran Brotherhood, and many more.
