• The Kansas-Nebraska Act. This broke the Missouri Compromise. Popular Severity was used, so many people for and against slaves moved to Kansas to place their vote

Douglas-Lincoln Debates

• They were both running for Illinois governor.

• They were debating on how to handle slavery

Uncle Tom’s Cabin

• The book by Harriet Beecher Stove caused much controversy over slavery.

• Although the book was fiction, it still gave people the thought that slavery was horrible
