THE VALUE OF THE INTEGRATEDTEAM APPROACH
With TAX season in full stride I suinventory of your fi nancial health.Ask yourself some very important with the team of fi nancial professsomeone or a team of professionapicture, but also your tax and etax person communicate with youinvestment and tax plan?Imagine the following for a momenwere understood by your professtransactions are engineered to effi cieupside in the given environment in remained focused on effi cient investmI believe that effective wealth manRisk Management and the compleLegal specialists, working togetherWhen you focus on Risk ManagemInvestment Risk – the risk of losimarket volatility and risk adjusted your capital to taxation (never to be recovered). As an investor you should look to minimize your investment risk by employing pension style investment management techniques and focus on “risk adjusted”returns. For taxation risk you should employ strategies in concert with your risktolerance that will maximize tax effi ciency. Working together with an integratedteam of professionals can achieve those goals. Your focus should be to not onlyconsider risk-adjusted growth, but also tax effi ciency for today and for the futuretransfer of your wealth. Each member of your fi nancial team should understandyour fi nancial plan and how it would evolve from an Investment, Tax, Estate andAdministrative perspective. If you are currently working with an investment advisor, what are theirqualifi cations? Was there a full fi nancial plan prepared? Does the plan take intoconsideration all of these areas: Does he/she meet with you regularly to reviewyour portfolio? What is the strategy for your current investments? Is it working?Have your advisors discussed the available tax strategies and whether they areappropriate for you?In addition, if your investment advisor has not discussed the projected value of your Estate with your lawyer or accountant, how can they possibly know whattax burden will eventually fl ow to your loved ones? Often, through lack of properplanning, your least favourite relative, CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) becomesyour biggest benefi ciary! If these specialists are not communicating, then you are probably paying toomuch income tax and there has not been proper planning done on the largest taxyou may ever pay, the taxes due on your Estate when it is wound up!As our fi nancial lives become increasingly more complex, don’t you agree that anintegrated team of fi nancial professionals optimizing your fi nancial health should behigh on your “To Do” list? Learn to focus on Risk Management, Tax Minimization andEstate Preservation and you will optimize your fi nancial well-being.This article was prepared by Tim Trian who is a registered Portfolio Managerwith Dundee Securities Corporation, a Dundee Wealth Management company. This is not an offi cial publication of Dundee Securities and the views (including any recommendations) expressed in this article are those of the author alone, and they have not been approved by, and are not necessarily those of DundeeSecurities Corporation. To learn more information on the benefi ts of working with an integrated teamplease feel free to contact Tim Trian, CFA Portfolio Manager, Dundee SecuritiesCorporation, Member CIPF at 905-829-0600.
