CHOIRS have started regular weekly rehearsals once again, and YOU are invited to come sing with us. During this season of stewardship and commitment for 2018, not only should we consider what our tithe should be, but we should also consider how we can give of our time and of our God-given talents. St. Paul’s is known as a singing church; however, over the last decade or so, choirs have dwindled down to few in number. As I look out into the congregation each week, I see many talented singers who have sung in St. Paul’s choirs in past years! We miss you! I encourage you to recommit your voices to the Lord and come back to choir. There are those of you who enjoy singing but have never joined a choir. I invite you to consider the options below and make that choice now.

I look forward to praising the Lord with you through music each week. Please contact me if you have questions or requests or even concerns. ([email protected]; 540-997-9382 H; 540-290-9987 C)In Christian Service,Martha Ramsey, Director of Music Ministries

Friends…As we continue to grow in our relationship with God we begin to grow deeper in our understanding of God’s generosity.  Stewardship, meaning how we handle and best use the resources God has given to us, is really a matter and a condition of our heart. How we understand the generosity of Jesus determines how we understand our own generosity.  We know Jesus was FOR us and for that we are grateful.

During the month of October you’ll receive a letter with a detailed description of our 2018 budget and the way your generous giving supports our churches ability to share faith through loving others.  Please be in prayer for your 2018 commitments. As always, if you have any questions please contact the office or Leslie Alger our Stewardship Team Lead.

New Series Starting October 15th.  "CREED”What do we believe? What forms our thinking? Is there a God? How can we know? What evidence is there that God exists? Does it really matter one way or another? If there is a God, what is God like?  Have you ever asked questions like these? Starting October 15th, we’ll start our new series Creed, as we unpack the words of the Apostle’s Creed. We are currently studying Adam Hamilton’s book entitled Creed now.  Take a few moments and read over the Creed each day and allow it to form us and help us in our walk with Jesus.

Are you new to St. Paul’s UMC? Are you considering joining St. Paul’s UMC? Are you a longtime member? Would you like to get to know Pastor Smith and his family more? Then you are invited to Pizza with the Pastor!! What is it? It is a time of fellowship and fun as we make

homemade pizza together and share what God is doing and what God might be calling us toward. Pizza with the Pastor is happening on Thursday, October 26th at the Smith’s house from 6:00-8:00 PM. Their address is: 722 Bull Run, Staunton. Please sign up at the Welcome Center or contact the office at 540-886-2317.

Sound Booth Help!!!As St. Paul’s continues to grow in ministry with our community, we are experiencing growing pains in our sound booth. (This can be from turning on mics for a funeral to running sound during Worship.) Whether you are a beginner or have advanced skills in this field, we can use your help preparing sound. Anyone interested in helping with our audio/visual needs, please contact the office at 540-886-2317 or stop by the sound booth after Worship.

St. Paul’s is offering a church wide mission opportunity in the Virginia Beach area.

St. Paul’s will be joining the Virginia Conference Disaster Recovery ministry team helping to serve the survivors of the February 2016

tornado outbreak and the October 2016 flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew. The disaster response ministry is, first and foremost, about the people whose lives were changed forever in a matter of moments, not about the work you’ll do on their houses.

Mark your calendars for the week of November 6th – 10th. We are looking for volunteers to help in all areas this week. Prayerfully consider joining this team. This is a flexible opportunity for anyone who may want to stay all week or partial week. This is a mission opportunity for all age and skill levels. We will be involved in helping with: cooking, drywall, floor, tile, painting, etc.

We will leave Sunday, November 5th following Worship and returning Friday, November 10th. If this is an opportunity that you would like to be part of, please contact the office to register.

The Dinner for 8 ministry is a great way to meet new people at church and get to know your church family better. Dinner for 8 groups provide the opportunity to spend time eating and sharing together.

Frequently Asked Questions:

WHAT HAPPENS AT A DINNER FOR 8?

Groups will plan a meal and get together at least 3 times over a period of 3 to 4 months rotating to participants’ homes using a potluck style, or decide to eat at a

local restaurant, or have pizza or potluck at the church. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship, so you don't have to be a great cook to participate. In addition to having

dinner together, you may plan on spending some time playing games or just hanging out. It doesn't get any easier than this!

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Sign up during the worship service on the registration form found at the Worship Center in the Narthex, or please make contact by phone or email.

Contacts: Jane Balderson  [email protected] (602-320-1208) Carl Balderson [email protected] (602-320-0882)

HOW DOES A DINNER FOR 8 GROUP WORK?

Simply fill out the registration form for you and your spouse (if applicable). Once groups are formed, a Group Coordinator will be selected from the

group roster. They will contact members to arrange the details for the first gathering.

Dinner groups are encouraged to be creative in the meals they enjoy together. Consider picking a dinner "theme night" (i.e. Italian night, dessert night, soup night, etc.) and everyone can bring a dish that goes along with that theme.

HOW ARE THE DINNER FOR 8 GROUPS FORMED?

As Dinner for 8 Groups are formed, we will put people together to make sure each group has at most eight adults.

Generally speaking some groups will have at most 8 adults comprised of either all couples, or two couples and four singles. It all depends on who signs up. The mystery is a part of this ministry's excitement!

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF BEING A GROUP COORDINATOR?

Page 15: WHAT HAPPENS AT A DINNER FOR 8? · Web viewThis year’s 2018 Relay for Life Walk will be on June 22nd & 23rd at Augusta Expo in Fishersville, VA and the theme will be “Fairy Tales”.

Being a Group Coordinator is fun and easy (as long as you have a phone and/or email).

You can sign-up to be a Group Coordinator on the form. We ask that the Group Coordinator contact group members to setup the

location, date and food sign-ups for the gathering. It is highly recommended to schedule all the future gatherings during your first night together.

Group Coordinators will then serve as a point person, as needed.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ROOM TO HOST A DINNER OR I REALLY DON’T WANT TO COOK?

Our desire is for you to spend time eating together, getting to know each other and to include everyone.

Your group might choose to repeat a host home or eat out. If finding a host home is difficult, your group is welcome to schedule dinner at the church.

We want everyone to feel that they can participate.

WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN?

The decision to include children will be determined by your group.  Please indicate on the registration form if you are including your children. Note: the church will not be providing childcare for this ministry.

Hello St. Paul’s! Some of God’s stewards have been working behind the scenes to kick-off the Country Store and Tenderloin Dinner for 2017. This is a premier fundraiser for St. Paul’s, and it cannot be a success without all of you!

It is a great event that brings all kinds of St. Paul’s talent together to deliver a fantastic COMMUNITY-wide social gathering. It highlights unique gift items, baked goods and artisan crafts. In addition, we serve a delicious pork tenderloin dinner.

All through the month of October, there will be a table in the Narthex with many opportunities to sign up to be a part of this wonderful event, along with tenderloin dinner tickets.

Our goal at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is for every person to grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe that God is always working in your life, pouring grace and love out for you even when you don’t know it’s there. It’s that same grace that pulls you deeper into love with Jesus and others.    Sharing Faith Through Love is the only thing that matters. We, the people of God, are called to share our faith! We do it through love, because Jesus called us to love our neighbors, love our enemies, and build his ministry on love.  If we do that we’re going to change our city, our country and our world!   We believe that you will grow closer to Jesus if you commit yourself to worship. When you open your head and heart to who God is and embrace the love that God has for you, you will grow closer to Christ. We believe that connecting with others is crucial for each of us. When we are connected to others within the life of the church our relationship with Jesus grows stronger because we have a sense of belonging and purpose.  Finally we believe that we are called to serve the world.  It’s through service that people’s lives are changed and faith is shared.   Worship, Connect, Serve, are the ways we can share faith through love. We believe it’s the way we grow to be more like Jesus, which is growing in discipleship. If we commit to Worship God, Connect with our community and Serve the world , more people will come to know and understand the love of Jesus!
