Question 6What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

HardwareDuring the creation of my music magazine coursework I have used numerous hardware to construct my product. In order for me to take my photographs for the magazine I had to use the following hardware:

Camera: Nikon D3100 Digital SLR. The settings used were Manual Aperture f11 – Shutter Speed 1/300th.

Horseshoe Flash Trigger. This was used by the infra red signal sent to strobe flash which triggers the flash in-sync with the camera shutter (speed set to 1/300th a second to match the shutter.

Hemisphere 300 – Strobe Flash. The dial on the back adjusts the output to turn the modeling light on. Auxiliary lights set to slave (triggered in sync with built In light sensor.

Soft Boxes – The model lights use soft boxes. They disperse the light in order to give a softer, rounder light on my models.

Backdrop – This is lit with a further two strobes on full power to create a high exposure, white background.

Satellite

HardwareiMac – The iMac is the most used piece of hardware that I used whilst creating my music magazine. I used the iMac as the base of all operations. I had to use it in order to use all of the software that I did and to actually construct my magazine.

Keyboard – The keyboard was another essential piece of hardware in creating my music magazine. This keyboard was used to write my article and help run all of the software that I used. It was crucial in putting together all of my magazine and writing.

Mouse - The apple magic mouse was used to control my entire coursework. It was used for every single part of my coursework. I used it to cut out my models, construct different graphics and shapes and position everything perfectly.

SoftwarePhotoshop

Photoshop was the base software used for my music magazine. I used the majority of its various features to create my cover, contents page and my double page article. Before I started my media course, I had very limited knowledge of Photoshop and had not really used it before.

Photoshop has taught me how to create a variety of different graphics. I have learnt how to cut out images and position them in the best possible way to remove the unwanted background.

This piece of software has allowed me to make my music magazine as graphical, elaborate and colourful as it is. In addition, I have learnt how to create colour schemes and graphics to fit to a certain genre.

SoftwareInDesign

Indesign is another adobe software that was crucial in the production of my media product, however it wasn’t used until the end. This is because this product was used to position the text on my article in the way it is, formed in columns. Indesign was used over photoshop in this instance because it is very easy to position text in the columns very easily, whereas photoshop can’t handle the large amounts of text very efficiently.

Indesign is present in my coursework on my article page where the actual article is written.

SoftwareSlideshare

Slideshare is a form of software used on the internet. This allows me to upload my powerpoints, like the one I am doing currently to wordpress for my evaluation. This is very important as it means I can embed my evaluation PowerPoints onto wordpress all in one place.

SoftwareFirefoxFirefox is a web browser produced by Mozilla. It is a web browser designed for making the users in full control. I used this as my chosen web browser because it was fully compatible with the macs and wordpress and it also allowed me to work on my coursework efficiently.

I used this for my multiple research tasks within my coursework and also to select fonts and other ideas for my magazine for use in the other software mechanisms such as photoshop.

SoftwareWordpressWordpress is the software that I have been using for my blog throughout my coursework. It is a blogging/website creating software on the internet that allows the user to create a fully customisable blog. This has been a significant piece of software in the creation of my music magazine because it has allowed me to post all of my finished work in an orderly, simple manner. Wordpress has been crucial to my work.

SoftwareMicrosoft PowerPointPowerPoint is the software that I have used to create many of my evaluation questions. It is a very simple, easy product to use and has allowed me to create work in a very simple, efficient way. It is a programme that has allowed me to present different slides in a way that is clean and easy for the reader to understand.

SoftwareMicrosoft Word

Microsoft office word is a programme that I used to write the actual text for my article. It was very easy to use and I could write my article without any problems and then implement it onto InDesign.

SoftwarePreziPrezi is an online software which I used in order to create myself some extravagant presentations. I used this online software for creating two of my evaluation questions and for one of my research tasks. I have found that it is a very fun software to use and helped me to create a more visual side to my work.

I did not know what Prezi was or how to use it up until a few weeks ago and ever since it has become a staple for my coursework and other presentations that I have had to put together.
