What importance do the poor have for Christians? Love for the poor is a must for every Christian. The poor deserve not just a little help: but out of justice we must help them. For Christians there is a special obligation to share their goods. Our example in love for the poor is Christ. What if I think that I want to become Catholic? God calls individuals to believe in the Good News of Jesus Christ and become his disciples as members of the Catholic Church. To become Catholic, you will participate in a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (abbreviated RCIA). Here you will learn about the teachings of Jesus as the Catholic Church has handed them on and put these teachings into practice by living as part of the Catholic community, serving others and praying. What if I have been baptized in another Christian tradition? You need not be baptized again, but you will be prepared to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion. What if I change my mind? You do not make any commitment or obligation by inquiring about Catholicism or beginning the Christian initiation process. While we love being Catholic and hope that others will want to become Catholic also, we do not exert pressure on anyone to do so. How can I find out more? What is the Catholic Church? The Catholic Church is the visible community established by Jesus Christ himself 2000 years ago, built upon the foundation of his first disciples, the Twelve Apostles. Jesus founded his Church:• to proclaim God’s love for every person• to teach that salvation comes through his

death on the cross and his rising from the dead

• to call all people to repentance and to believe in him, and to be baptized in order receive the Holy Spirit and to enter into eternal happiness with God.

How does God reveal himself? God reveals himself firstly through his creation, but most completely in sending his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. He is God’s

last Word, By listening to Jesus all people can know who God is and what is necessary for their salvation.

Where do we find the teachings of Jesus? We find the true teachings of Jesus in the Bible and living Tradition of the Church, both of which are handed down to us through the Church he founded.

Is there a difference between Christian and Catholic?A Christian is someone who has been baptized and is a follower of Jesus Christ. The word Catholic comes from a Greek word that means universal. When we use the word Catholic, we refer to a Christian who is baptized in the original Church founded by Jesus Christ himself.

How do Catholics worship God?Catholics pray in many ways, both in private and in community. Our most important worship is the Holy Mass, when we come together on Sunday (or Saturday evening), as God’s family, the Church. During the Mass, we ask for God’s mercy, we praise and thank him for his goodness, we listen to his holy Word as the Bible is read and explained by the priest, and we

ask God for his help. The most important part of the Mass is when the priest, on behalf of the congregation, offers up bread and wine, which are transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus so that we might share in Jesus’ saving death and resurrection. When we receive Holy Communion, we are spiritually nourished by his Body and Blood. At the end of Mass, we are sent out into the world spread the news about Jesus by word and deed
