WHAT IS A GLOBAL CITIZEN?
A Global citizen is someone who makes a real contribution to creating a better World
You have a unique opportunity as Year 7 students
Each one of you has been given a passport which is being held by your form tutor
You have a mission during the rest of this year, and for the next four years. You will record your journey through this school as you learn to become a “Global Citizen”.
Did you realise that as a global citizen, you are at the centre of everything that happens?
You are part of a family. You are at Selly Park Technology College with fellow students and friends. As a student at Selly Park School you are part of the Birmingham schools network. Birmingham is part of the West Midlands. The West Midlands is a county in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is part of the wider community called Europe. Europe is just one of the continents within the World. Being at the heart of something means that you can make a difference. Extending your knowledge as a global citizen is the first step to creating a better World.
What happens
• Form tutors keep your passports in form rooms• You will need to ask them for access each time
you want to record an event• Stamps• Checking• Year 7 -11• Global citizenship noticeboard• They will be a keepsake given to you at the end
of year 11 to remind you of your journey to becoming a Global Citizen.
I participated in a pen pal exchange of letters with a student at a school in South Africa. I can compare the differences in our lifestyles and culture. We exchange pictures and cards to help each other gain an insight into life outside of our community. I research my local community in Birmingham so that I can keep my pen pal fully informed of up to date events. Letters are shared with classmates so that local knowledge and information on Birmingham is shared with our partner schools in Russia, Europe, South Africa and the Middle East and vice versa.
