GLASS was developed as a way to make RLI’s mission possible and sustainable
The mission of Rupununi Learners Inc. is to build and support Community Learning Centers in the
Rupununi region.
How GLASS works
What students will do2.Pay a fee to live in Yupukari for 8 weeks3.Take 4 different classes:•Tropical Ecology•Indigenous Knowledge•Teaching English•Community projects in their individual areas of specialization
What villagers may do2.Earn income•Guide student field projects•Teach Indigenous Knowledge classes2. Get help•Collaborate on the community projects•Take English classes
What RLI doesThe fees earned from students will be spent:
•To pay guides and IK teachers
•To support the Yupukari Public Library
•To help other communities start and sustain libraries (the RLI mission)

The first GLASS group is planned for May-August 2011. We need 8 Lesley students to sign up to run the pilot.

Other US colleges and universities are interested in developing GLASS-type programs.
