What is HST Coordination?• Human Services Transportation
•Transportation for three distinct population groups: older adults, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with low-income.
• Coordination: • the harmonious functioning of parts for effective
results
• Is not a “one time” event or process!
• It is Shared power, shared responsibility, shared management, shared funding, and shared benefits.
Reasons to Coordinate:• Improve efficiencies in existing
transportation operations and systems
• Lower cost for the customer, provider, and human service agencies
• Expand service areas and hours of operation
• Create a seamless regional system and seamless trip
• Improve customer satisfaction

Existing Conditions continued:
• 85+ population is the fastest growing segment of the region’s population increasing by 55% between 1990 and 2000.
• 78% of older adults are homeowners.
• 10% of older adults in the region live below poverty.
• Between 1990 and 2000, the 65 and older population in the region increased by 30%.
Existing Conditions continued:• In six out of 10 counties, growth in the older
adult population exceeded growth in the general population.
• Three of the region’s 10 counties have among the 20 fastest growing older adult populations in the nation.
• Region’s population that is over age 60 is expected to double, from 10 percent in 2000 to 20 percent in 2030.
