How Sikhism began….Sikhism was founded about 500 years ago, in the Punjab region of northwest India.        The Punjab

Five rivers run down from the Himalayas into the Indus valley, Punj means five, ab means water.

The land is fertile because of the 5 rivers and farming is the main industry. Historically the area was Hindu but Muslims invaded trying to spread their religion. From the battle between the two main religions the new religion: Sikhism, was founded

It was started by a holy man called Nanak. He taught that there is only one God and that all human beings are equal.

This is because they are all loved equally by God. He became known

as Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru.
