What is the SOLA platform?A specialist survey platform which collects data from research validated questionnaires and feeds it back for four different self-improvement purposes:

•For individual users to support personal change

•For team leaders to respond more accurately to the learning needs of their groups

•For organisational leadership decision-making

•For system wide analysis, research and learning

What is Learning Emergence LLP?……a Partnership set up by researchers and practitioners who share a vision for using research validated surveys in improvement projects…….

SOLA is a project of the Learning Emergence Limited Liability Partnership (LLP). This is an alternative corporate business model that gives the benefits of limited liability but allows its members the flexibility of organising themselves as a professional partnership (See http://goo.gl/ltVZEL). The LLP has formal Members, referred to as Partners. There are no shareholders.

The funds for SOLA have been raised through ‘crowd-sourcing’ within the wider Learning Emergence Network. The ‘crowd’ includes key individuals and founding user partners.

The LLP is an appropriate vehicle for this initiative because it provides a collaborative structure which incentivizes members to succeed. An LLP can house any number of ‘Projects’ each with its own governance. All Members of SOLA are active members of the Learning Emergence Network.

A Project is a single instance of one survey across organisations or groups

Costs of access to surveys

•Set up and support costs•Log in costs

We aim to make the costs of using the platform achievable for schools as well as Higher Education Institutions and Corporate Organisations.

The pricing model starts with £900 set up and support costs and £3 per log in for small school projects.

Larger projects need up to 5 days for set up and support costs.

Logins costs for HEIs are £5 and £30 for corporate organisations.

We don’t want any school to be prevented from using this platform because of costs so we have made it possible for schools to cluster together to form one

bigger Project.

A survey is accessed as a ‘Project’

What survey tools (Apps) are available?Crick Learning for Resilient Agency Profile Assessment of Learner Centred Practices Surveys (McCombs)Authentic Pedagogy Survey (Huang)

Can we devise our own surveys? Yes. We can create and analyse bespoke surveys with you.

Can we feed survey data back into our Management Information System?Yes – eXplorance are experts at integration through APIs. Costs for this have to be negotiated separately.

What is a networked improvement community?

Making systems work is the great task of my generation of physicians and scientists.

But I would go further and say that making systems work — whether in healthcare, education, climate change, making a pathway out of poverty — is the great task of our

generation as a whole.
