Work hard-play hard mentality. “Don’t get the wrong idea: it’s not easy here. In many ways it might be harder...but that’s because my job is taking really excellent care of my patients. It’s not R.V.U.s or some other bizarre metric. We work hard, but we play hard too. We say that a lot around here. Clinic is a fun bustle of activity with happy patients and happy teammates. But because of that, the time flies by and we pretty much always wrap up on time. I leave feeling satisfied and know I did what I always wanted to do: I made my patients’ lives better. And I come back the next morning energized to do it again. Don’t get me wrong, I love weekends, but I don’t dread the weekdays.” What’s it like to be an Oak Street physician? Here’s what they say. “Griffin [Myers, M.D., M.B.A., Oak Street’s Chief Medical Officer and Founder] tells us all the time: our wisdom and experience are the most valuable assets at Oak Street. And he means it. I appreciate the effort taken to make sure our time as providers and the work we do is respected in ways I have not experienced elsewhere. Our Physician Services team is one great example of how Oak Street works for its providers. They take care of all the stuff I need behind the scenes: white coats, C.M.E., licensing, malpractice, social events with my physician colleagues, whatever. With their help, I spend less time chasing paperwork and more time focusing on giving my patients high quality care.” Administrative and professional support from professionals. Dr. Ron Chacko, M.D. Family medicine physician, primary care fellowship in H.I.V., former Wheel of Fortune champion, and recognized leader on our team. Dr. Francina Peralta-Machado, M.D. Geriatrician, world-traveler, teacher at heart.

Do well by doing good.

“One of my patients always jokes with me by asking when I am going to buy my Lamborghini. I always respond with a laugh; I am enjoying my Jeep for the time being. No one goes into primary care for the money, but at Oak Street I do have a nice salary. The salary offered was more than any other I received and unlike other jobs it is not based on productivity. At Oak Street my salary is guaranteed and then there is potential to make even more. Money is not what motivates me at Oak Street Health, but the money is nice.”

Dr. Kendra Frazier, M.D.Geriatrician, fellowship-trained palliative care expert, Chicago native, amateur dancer.

Revolutionary caregiving model.“Physicians train and endure long hardships and residencies to perfect their skills in compassionate service. The real world model never allows them to serve as scientists and healers for which we initially set our mission. Oak Street Health has revolted against that norm and has set the standard for which future health care models will benchmark. At Oak Street Health, providers are afforded the opportunity to practice medicine as we originally intended...the patient is the center of our universe. All resources and compassion are set before them.”
