What Jesus says - Matt. 5:43-45

Who Jesus Is

1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the

Word of Life— 2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to

us— 3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and

with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

WHAT JESUS DOES

John 6 - The Feeding of the Multitude 1After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias). 2A

large crowd followed Him, because they saw the signs which He was performing on those who were sick. 3Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples. 4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. 5Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so

that these may eat?” 6This He was saying to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do. 7Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for

them, for everyone to receive a little.” 8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these

for so many people?”

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” - Luke 1:37.Jesus performs the humanly impossible. If there is something in our life that we think is outside of the power of Christ, we need to think again. There is nothing that can separate from the love of God.“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension...” - Phil. 4:7 Jesus comes to give salvation to all people. Rom. 1:16 Jesus comes to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45 Jesus comes to create in us a new heart, a new creation. 2 Cor. 5 No matter how messed up we think we are, or someone else is, there is nothing outside of God’s power and love for us and for his people. He came to bring us to Himself.

WHAT JESUS SAYS - Matt. 5:43-47

Of primary importance in following Jesus is the pursuit of knowing Him.  Primary in knowing Him is the pursuit of the Scripture's revelation of who he is.  Part of this is focusing on who Jesus Christ is, why he came, what he said and did when he was on earth, what he meant, and what difference does it make.  Our understanding of Jesus should not be driven by our own backgrounds or experience, but in who the Scripture reveals him to be.  This includes knowing what Jesus originally meant when he originally taught.

43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Take some time, and think through your relationship with people who love you, and then take some time to think through your relationship with those who do not love us, who have slandered us, who have persecuted us, who have treated us unfairly, who have spread untrue rumors about us, who have perhaps killed someone that we know, etc.

- Write their names down on your paper

It is these people God is calling us to love.  If anyone comes to our mind that the Spirit is convicting us of, that we do not have God's love for, let us repent right now, and ask for God to change our heart, and pray for that person.  Our hearts need to change, and God is the one who changes them.  What we need to do is to desire a change of heart by humbling ourselves.

APPLICATION:Let us be people who use our circumstances to enhance our faith, not people who use our faith to enhance our circumstances.“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.” 1 John 3:2
