PROMETHEUS GLOBAL MEDIA

Prometheus global media is an American entertainment publishing company based in New York City. Currently Prometheus Global Media run four major magazines; Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, Adweek and Backstage.

Here are some facts and figures about the above magazine:

The Hollywood Reporter - Read in over 82 countries worldwide, A global staff of over 80 journalists.

Adweek – Reader each with an average annual media budget of $398M across media classifications.

Backstage – Reaches 60,00 actors in print, over 4 million online page views monthly. The above information demonstrates the fact that Prometheus Global media is a worldwide company. In relation to distributing my products I think Prometheus global media would be an effective choice as the institution to distribute my magazine because they have connections globally, which would be an advantage on sales. Additionally they have experience within the industry, also linking my product with the organisation name reflects a positive reputation for my product because Prometheus Global engages with 82 countries worldwide, proving that if this organisation was to distribute my product I would instantly have an audience globally. Prometheus Global media specialise in distributing magazines under the topic of entertainment.

produce, this also is a benefit to this organisation as awards receive popularity for the product and awareness.

PROMETHEUS GLOBAL MEDIA AUDIENCE

In terms of audience, Prometheus Global target a diverse audience as they have a reader ship in over 82countries, meaning that they are national organisation. As my magazine is a pop magazine, I am going to compare Prometheus ‘Billboard’ magazine to my magazine as they both target a similar audience. Below is a table of Billboards readership;

From researching Billboard magazine it is clear that from the colour schemes used and cover stars been of both genders, it is gender neutral however occasionally they swing towards a more female audience, this would be ideal for my own magazine because even though it is not aimed at a specific gender it does sway slightly to a more female audience similar to Billboard. Another correlation between my music magazine product and Billboards is the Age range which both magazines aim to an audience of 25 year olds, but on the other hand my target audience is of a slightly younger audience starting at the age of 14. Another similar magazine that would be ideal in comparison to my product is VIBE. On the whole Prometheus Global media would be an ideal institution to distribute my media product because they have experience with magazines in the music industry and have a large readership and fan base which would make my product popular and will increase my chances of my magazine becoming well known in the music industry.

BAUER MEDIA GROUP

Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio. Bauer Media engages around 19 million consumers a week. In relation to Bauer Media Group distributing my product, the advantages would be that due experience and a large empire, it would benefit my magazine in becoming recognised and having an audience in the music industry, additionally the organisation name itself would lift the reputation of my magazine immediately gaining a reputation. Also the types of magazines that Bauer are associated with do not co-inside with the genre of my music magazine, for example they publish Q and Kerrangmagazines. For example Kerrang magazine is a weekly rock magazine where as my magazine is a weekly pop magazine both complete opposite genres.

Here is a screen shot of some brands owned by Bauer Media Group, a specific example circled in red is Q music magazine, Q magazine is a UK worldwide magazine, published by Bauer Media and is currently has a circulation of 52,781.

Taking Q Magazine as an example, according to valid statistics the majority of Q’s readers are male, with the percentage for men being 66.2%. The statistics also show that 83.8% of the readers are 15-44 years of age. This shows Q’s ability to make the magazine appeal to a wide range of ages and social groups. Q does this by featuring currently popular artists like Adele and classic artists like Madonna and John Lennon.

As Q magazine is the UK’s biggest music magazine, Bauer Media obviously know what they are doing through distributing two very popular music magazines ‘Kerrang and Q’. An additional benefit to choosing Bauer as the company to distribute my magazine is currently they do not publish a pop magazine so therefore my magazine would not be competing with an additional existing pop magazine that they already publish.

brands that IPC media distribute:

Two major music magazines that IPC

Media distribute are NME and Uncut

which are both very popular magazines

within the music industry.

Page 9: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Taking NME as example of existing magazine that IPC media already publish and NME’s reader profile;

Male – 69%

Female – 31%

Average Age – 24

Full time Workers–52%

Part time workers–7%

Still studying –29%

Readership – 369,000

Circulation –40,948

The above information gives an indication of how well NME is distributed and received to the target audience. IPC media would be a good choice as an institution to distribute my product because of the experience they have with top music brands and have a certain dominance within the music industry.

This is a screen shot of the NME website, on the main page

it shows various artists associated with the magazine, this

would be good for my product as NME is distributed by IPC

more artists would want to be featured within my

magazine because it would be distributed by an influential

name in the industry.

CHOSEN MEDIA INSTITUTION

The Media Institution I have chosen to distribute my media product is IPC Media, the reason behind my decision is mainly due to the fact that IPC Media have great experience in distributing major magazines such as NME and Uncut, also they have a vast audience that subscribe and read their magazines, additionally they also use multiple platforms to distribute their products which is benefit with todays digitalisation. Another positive point is that currently IPC do not publish a pop magazine as they distribute traditional rock magazines like NME this would be a benefit to my product as it would not have to compete with an existing pop magazine that they already distribute. The only down side to choosing IPC media the amount of brands that they take care of shown in previous slide of the screen shots of all the brands that they are associated with, this maybe become an issue when wanting one to one services with the institution as they are so broad and vast. However overall I believe IPC Media would be the best choice for my product because the advantages to the institution out weigh the disadvantages

HOW I WANT MY PRODUCT TO BE

DISTRIBUTEDFor the distribution of my product, due to digitalization I want my magazine to be accessible through other medians rather than just only been able to be bought in paperback. Ways in which I would like my magazine to be distributed are to be effective so that it gains a wide audience, for example through portable devices such as tablets and smartphones but also in the traditional hard copies method. Through distributing my product through this way it would give my audience more options on how to access the magazine.

Do to the rise in digitalisation, as shown above, in todays society many people access music magazines through portable devices so therefore it would beneficial for my product to be available on an app that is downloadable on the portable devices shown above.

Page 12: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

HOW I WANT MY PRODUCT TO BE DISTRIBUTED

As mentioned in my previous slide people like to use downloadable devices to access the music magazine, however other people may be more traditional want to buy the hard copies in shops. In terms of the physical product I would like all major retailers to distribute my magazine, for example leading supermarkets and smaller branded shops across the world.
