My 9th Grade Brother asked me what I do in my lab, so I threw together this presentation. I am not sure how much a 9th Grader knows, but I intended this presentation to give him exposure, rather than to have him understand everything. Please feel free to critique my presentation, and certainly point out any pictures that I may have failed to give the original sources credit for.

We want to make

• Optical Protection– For protection from lasers

• Solar Cells– For making electricity

What we do:

• We make nano sized crystals, called quantum dots

• We connect them with carbon nanotubes, which act as wires

• We make plastic films which hold our quantum dots and carbon nanotubes

• We test our films as optical protection, and as solar cells

Our crystals are so small, they need protection, so they do not get destroyed

• They are protected by chemicals that are like soap, which cover the crystals
