TIP FROM THE TOUR

The Body Rotation in the golf swing It is very important to be connected throughout the golf swing for consistency here is a tip to help you out. Your chest and arms need to turn back and through together, most players have the chest and arms turning ok in the backswing but forget about the follow through. After you have completed your backswing you need to feel your chest turning with your arms all the way though until you have reached you follow through position. This will help your balance & body flow through the swing resulting in more consistency and feel. If your game needs a tune up, see Matt or Jake in the pro shop.

2017 Foursomes Champions Kris Cole and Lachlan Tisma

For the 27-hole event Kris and Lachlan recorded 110, a seven shot victory over second placed Josh Crockett and James Stephenson who were just one shot ahead of Mal Towney and Jimmy Maher.

Nett winners Nigel Fletcher and Damien Adler 108.75 a close win from Singa Langi and Peter Rayment 109.

4BBB Matchplay Championship – The champions for 2017 played a very close match and the winning pair was not decided until the 19th hole. Dave Cunningham and Larry Britten were two up with just two holes to play but Kevin Murphy and Michael Alexsoski fought back and with Michael chipping in on the first extra hole the match was won.

Matchplay Championship – The match rounds have begun and the second round will be played on 17 June if not already ahead of schedule. Most matches have been close with the closest so far being in A Grade with Dave Elliott needing to play the 21st hole for victory over Jason Brown.

NSW 4BBB Qualifying for Men – A reminder that our qualifying round will be on Sunday 2 July with winners playing in district final on 6 August. The winners from there will travel to Bonville Golf Resort for state final the first week in October. The details for this event will be on Notice Board and NSW Golf website.

HOOPS, ROPES AND SIGNS

If you see hoops or ropes down it would be appreciated if you could take the time to put them back to protect these areas. It would be great if and when you need to move a rope, hoop or sign that you replace it to its original position. The Greens staff place these hoops, ropes and signs periodically around the course to protect new work and regenerate worn areas.

Winter has arrived in true Queanbeyan fashion with frosty early mornings. I sincerely hope we do not get the rain we had last winter, in June alone we had 21 rain affected golf days. My hope this year is for cold, clear days with minimum rain. I am looking forward to our Christmas in July Dinner on Saturday July 15. We will be serving all the usual Christmas fare, Turkey, Ham, Pork with delicious roasted potatoes and vegetables, followed by Christmas Pudding with custard or if you prefer, traditional Pavlova. It will be served Buffet style so everyone can choose their favourites. There will be entertainment and Lucky Door prizes with a glass of bubbly on arrival all for $40 per person, kids under 12 $20. Please show your support for the club and book at reception. Membership renewal time is quickly approaching. Please beat the rush and fill in a renewal form and pay at the office between

10.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday. If you cannot get to the club during the week we will have a locked box at the bar to “post” your renewals over the weekends. Please ensure you update your details if you have changed address or phone number and email. Our 2017-2018 sponsorship packages are now available, if anyone is interested in being a new sponsor please call me or email at [email protected] and I will send you our list of options. I can also write a custom package to give your business exactly the exposure best suited. Existing sponsors will receive their new packages over the next couple of weeks to allow them to pay before the end of the financial year. Good golfing and see you in our

COURSE NEWS

Course Super – Bryan Kelly Winter has arrived late and suddenly. Whilst Autumn is a colourful time of the year, with it comes the long tedious task of removing the fallen leaves. By now, most deciduous trees have shed their leaves. It’s been a full-time job for some weeks removing the leaves so thankyou to those that assisted other than our staff. Last year the club purchased 800 sand buckets. Another 200 have just been ordered. Could all members check their car boots, garages, or wherever else they have become a useful bucket for the odd job other than on the golf course, and return them to the club please. The course is holding up well, fortunately climatically we experienced a warm dry Autumn receiving 60 mm rain over the last 2 months. Hopefully the warmer weather trend continues through winter. Greens, fairways, tees and surrounds have been fertilised, assisting in providing a good playing surface and healthy colour. Members please remember to treat your golf course with respect, Whilst practice on it is welcome, do so from the appropriate tees and without an excessive numbers of shots hit from the same place. Please repair all divots, even though they may not be yours.

Keep warm and happy golfing

Well what a busy month for Women's golf in the ACT this month. Firstly, Congratulations to Trish Noel and Sue Korth on winning the Monthly Medals.

Our own Women's Open held on 11 May, had an excited buzz in the air as brand new Jaguar cars lined the putting green and the eighth tee. Many women excited at the prospect of driving off into the sunset with their new car won by the perfect shot - hole in one on the eighth. Unfortunately, the car was not won this year but there is always next time. A huge thank you to Lennock Motors our major sponsors for the tournament and also advising that they will be back next year. Thank you to all the volunteers, on and off the course, as you helped the competition run very smoothly.

Congratulations to Chloe Thornton who won the Open with a beautiful 76 off the stick. Welcome to the major winner’s circle for Leanne Griffith winning the Nett with a very good 71.

Yowani Open was held on 18 May, with many of our members attending. Congratulations to Pauline Jeffery taking out the title after a 3 way, 4 hole playoff.

Drummond held their social day at Queanbeyan on Fri 19 May. Wendy Lynch made the most of her local knowledge in tough conditions to take out the Women's event earning her a trip to New Zealand next April to contest the final.

On the 27 May, 20 pairs teed off for the Women's Foursomes title. Not much separated the top three pairings after 27 holes. Wendy Lynch and Lauren Maher won by one shot over Chloe Thornton and Kylie Smith, one shot further back was Pauline Jeffery and Amber Thornton. Thank you to our Patron, Colleen De Costa for presenting the Trophy to the winners.

On 29 May, we entered the winter months with a bang. Goulburn proved that it can remain cold all day with winds straight off the snow. Congratulations to Leanne Griffith and Debbie Baker for coming second in their respective Divisions. Golfing is not over yet as we head into the colder months. Friday, 2 June will see the start of the Emily Hurt Pennant Season. Whilst only a few games long, we have had a fabulous response from our longer handicappers, as they experience Matchplay, some for the first time, in a warming and friendly environment. Good Luck Ladies.

Queanbeyan Junior open The 39th Queanbeyan Colts/Junior Open was held on Sunday May 7th with 49 competitors from all over the district testing our beautifully prepared course. With the 1st and 9th tee times available the field had all hit off on time and finishing with plenty of day light to see a play off for the Colts Champion (under24 men’s) between Lachlan Tisma from Queanbeyan and Jake Davies from Gungahlin Lakes both with a Gross score of 74, Lachlan winning on the 3rd play-off hole with a birdie. The Gross winner of the Boys under 18 was Adam Thorpe from Federal with a score of 75 and Runner Up Gross Trent Britton from Queanbeyan with a score of 77, the Nett winner was Tom Gordon from Fairbairn with a score of 64 and Nett runner up Aaron Maxwell from Federal with a score of 72. The Sub Junior category played 8 holes from 1-8 all having a great time under the guidance of Ray Evans and Gail Goiser, the winner Geogina Oke shooting a score of 43 the 4 remaining sub juniors getting a prize for participation. At the end of days play everyone assembled in the function room for pizza and soft drink as Jake Nagle carried out the presentation to all the winners, as always this tournament couldn’t

happen without the continued sponsorship of Arthur Walters, Pat & Helen Jeffery, Ian Wallace, Bevan Webb, Joan Kinsey, Pauline & Peter Jeffery, John Seaborn, Brian & Fran Thomas, Gail Goiser and the Queanbeyan Golf Club Pro shop. Thank you to the Junior committee Linda Dorsett, Mal Towney, Daniel Goodchild, Jake Nagle, Gail Goiser and Jo and David in the office.

+ Junior Pennant Queanbeyan’s Junior Pennant team will have the opportunity to represent the club in the State Junior & Encourage Shield playoffs. The first match will be played before the end of October in the region round robin at a neutral venue and the winner will progress to the semi-finals/ Grand final in January at Newcastle. There are 32 teams that have won their district finals all

competing to win, should be a great experience for our guys. Junior Clinics A reminder there are junior clinics run by our Proshop at 4.00pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month, Mat Rainsford and his side kick Harry Smith put together a fun filled and basic skills clinic, if you have a son, daughter, grandchild, nephew or niece bring them along.
