The Year of Cultural Tourism 2019 continues with a top programme of activities! UNESCO World Heritage Castells (human towers) will of course be present at Destination Barcelona’s fantastic choice of traditional festivals. As a UNESCO City of Literature, Barcelona will be hosting a wide range of celebrations and activities, such as Sant Jordi and 15 literature trails through the city and landscapes of Barcelona.
This year’s exhibitions will include “Velázquez & The Golden Age” from the Prado Museum and a retrospective dedicated to Max Beckmann at CaixaForum. Meanwhile, MACBA will be hosting an exhibition of works by the Catalan artist Jaume Plensa. The Mapfre Foundation will be staging two exhibitions featuring the American photographers Berenice Abbott and Richard Learyord. And the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya will be putting Bartolomé Bermejo in the spotlight. This year, Barcelona’s old harbour, the Port Vell, will be hosting the exhibition “Meet Vincent van Gogh” where you can find out about the life and work of the famous painter through a multisensory experience and immersive 360° degree project created by experts from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Music, design, art, cinema… Barcelona will be hosting more than 180 festivals in different disciplines, including the advanced music festival, Sonar, Primavera Sound and theJazz Festival in Terrassa, the Vijazz Penedès Festival among the vineyards, and the Festival of Living Music in Vic .
The autumn will also be packed with things to see Richard Learyord, including the world premiere of “Messi 10 by Cirque du Soleil” inspired by the magic of the FC Barcelona striker.
