As I’m sure you’ve heard, public schools in NSW will return to full time face-to face ‘on campus’ learning for all students from next Monday 25th May. This move results from the determination that schools are safe to re-open, underscored by the guidelines from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee and NSW Health. In line with these, there will be some changes to usual operations to support the ongoing safety and wellbeing of students and staff. What aspects of MPS will return to be, ‘as usual’? Students will return to their usual classrooms and teachers. All students will be expected to attend school every day unless they have a medical certificate which states they are unable to return due to his/her ongoing medical condition, or if they are currently unwell. Teaching and learning will return to being class based. Weekly grade based learning packages and timetables for daily Learning From Home activities will discontinue. Students will not be required to maintain social distancing from peers, although increased hygiene measures will remain in place. Students will be able to use the library and engage in non-contact sporting activities. What COVID-19 changes will remain, ‘in place’, for now? There will be no assemblies, visiting performances, excursions or camps. There will be no in-school activities that require parents or other volunteers. Students are to bring their own water bottles to refill during the day. Staff promotion and monitoring of Increased hygiene measures for students including regular hand washing, avoiding sharing drinks or food and safe coughing/sneezing procedures will be prioritised. Minimisation of adults on the school site. Parents and carers are to drop off and pick up students promptly from outside the front and hall gates, or the path area just inside the bottom gate, while maintaining social distancing from each other. Parents/carers and school personnel are asked to use email or phone systems for communication. Enhanced cleaning. For MPS, this means eight additional cleaning hours daily to intensify the cleaning of high-touch areas such as bathrooms, door handles, light switches, hand railings and fixed play equipment. Cleaners also monitor and replenish supplies such as soap and paper towels throughout the day. What will be ‘different’ for now? Modified canteen and uniform shop arrangements will be advised as soon as possible. Parent /teacher meetings will be hosted online to minimise adult interaction as much as possible. Student temperatures will be taken as necessary. If a student becomes unwell at school, his/her parent, carer or emergency contact will be contacted to collect the student. We are really looking forward to welcoming all students back into their regular classrooms next week. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, your child’s class teacher or our administrative staff with any queries you may have. Kind regards, Fiona Lewis Relieving Principal

LIBRARY NEWS!

The Introduction of EBook borrowing.

We are pleased to advise that the ebooks are ready and waiting for children to borrow them!

To access the ebooks at home, you will need to download the Wheelers app on your child/children’s

device.

Instructions on how to borrow ebooks from our school library (Oliver), will be handed out to

students this week. This will allow students to borrow ebooks from home and read them.

Ebooks can be borrowed for two weeks and then they will be returned automatically on the library

system.

Ebooks can also be returned by the student before the two week period has lapsed. To return a

book prior to the two week prior, students will need to go into their Department of Education

student portal, go to Oliver Library, click on their name on the top right hand side of the screen,

then click on loans, digital loans, the cover of the books and then click on ‘Return’ and then click on

‘yes’.

On another note, can you please ensure any physically borrowed library books which are now

overdue be returned to the school at your earliest convenience?

Thank you everyone!

Kind Regards

Rose (Rosanna) Neal

Google Classroom

During the learning from home period, in Stage 3, we have been continuing our teaching and learning with the wonderful use of Google Classroom. The teachers have put together a sequence of learning activities that could be completed online at home or at school for those students of essential workers. This has meant that we can all be working on the same task, even in different locations. In such a short period of time, our students have learnt new skills in using technology, logging into the Google Classroom, opening assignments, completing them and then submitting them for their teachers to review and provide feedback. We are so proud of how Stage 3 have adapted to the new learning platform of a virtual classroom and how confident they are becoming as 21st Century Learners. We believe this is a fantastic tool to help with the transition to high school for our Year 6 students as the use of technology increases in Year 7. We would also like to thank all the families that have embraced Google Classroom into their lives, guiding their children to use it at home and provide the support to make this successful. As time back at school increases next week, we will still be using the wonderful skills we have learnt during this time and look forward to merging Google Classroom back into our regular routine. Keep up the fantastic work Stage 3, your teachers are extremely proud of you! From Mrs Kelly, Mr Bayliss, Mrs Hugo, Mr Andrews, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Sansom

Although the response has been great, we need to clarify that the tickets are $5 each. To purchase all 4 tickets issued to your child, it will cost a total of $20.

Please ensure when returning tickets sold that they are placed in a sealed envelope with your child's name and class clearly written on the front.
