INTEL SINGAPORE INVENT 50 COMPETITION GUIDELINES In conjunction with Singapore’s celebration of its 50th year of independence and Intel’s very own Moore’s Law turning 50, Intel, with support from the Ministry of Education Singapore, is conducting the Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition with the main focus of driving innovation amongst students in Singapore.

The progression in science and technology has enriched the world in more ways than we can describe. As such, around 50 selected students will have the opportunity to innovate and conceive a groundbreaking solution to quandaries or challenges that communities in Singapore are facing. With a fundamental aim for significant social impact and the improvement of lives within the Singaporean community, we are challenging the students of Singapore to demonstrate your power of innovation and problem-solving in today’s world.

SCOPE

To encourage innovation in Singapore, Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition is inviting students to present in a competitive process to a panel of experts and judges from August 3rd to September 4th, 2015. Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition seeks to connect student makers with innovation, creativity, networking opportunities and incubation/startup activities.

Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition aims for innovative ideas that are relevant to the improvement of 21st century life. Innovative intelligent transport or travel management as well as innovative software solutions that assist in making lives in modern buildings more comfortable, sustainable and safe are potential focus areas for participating teams to engage upon. Focus areas may include but are not limited to the following:

SMART NATION • Innovative solutions to improve traffic, air pollution, energy management etc.

SMART HOME • Innovative solutions that assist in making lives in modern buildings more sustainable and safe etc.

SMART MOBILITY • Innovative intelligent transport and travel management etc.

SMART HEALTH • Innovative wearable solutions in healthcare to monitor vital signs etc.

For the student teams with the best solutions and technologies to solve the current challenges in Singapore, we welcome your participation.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

1) Student must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited institution of higher learning (polytechnics and universities) in Singapore pursuing their Diploma, Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degrees.

2) Students must be between the ages of 18-34 as of August 3rd, 2015. 3) Each team shall be comprised of 3-4 students. However, participants may not

participate in more than one team.

*Finalist teams will be given Intel® Edison Kit for Arduino and SeeedStudio Grove Starter Kit Plus or Intel® RealSense™ SDK and an Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera to construct their prototypes. Students/Teams will be responsible for any additional tools, accessories, PCs or other equipment that may be required for their prototype.

ENTRY SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Entry Requirements: a. Online Application

§ Event Website: www.intel.sg/invent50 § Submit 1-2 pages proposal that addresses the following items:

• Background • Value Proposition and Practical Concept • Outline the problem you are solving • Describe how your idea is better than the current solution and

how it is feasible for Singapore. § Submissions should pertain to challenges that is being faced by

Singapore at this present moment (e.g. innovative intelligent transport management, innovative solutions for comfortable, sustainable, safe modern buildings etc.)

§ Submissions or ideas must be practical and should have the potential to be developed into a functional prototype using Intel® Edison Kit for Arduino and SeeedStudio Grove Starter Kit Plus or Intel® RealSense™ SDK and an Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera.

§ Submissions may include a video link if applicable (max. 5 minutes). In the video, please introduce yourselves and explain the proposal in the submission and any other information that may be relevant.

o Application Deadline: September 4th, 2015. 2. Final Judging (Finalists Teams Only)

a. Pitch and prototypes must be ready for judging by November 30th, 2015.

RULES & REGULATIONS

1. All submissions must be made in English, and the clearer and more complete your descriptions are, the easier it will be for the judges to understand your product’s merits.

2. Participants may only submit one application. 3. Submissions must be made by the stipulated deadline. 4. Any incomplete and/or late submissions shall be deemed as void. 5. Submissions must adhere to the following guidelines:

a. Submissions must display innovation and creativity. b. Submissions address significant challenges facing Singapore. c. Submissions must not be in violation of any intellectual property rights. d. Submissions must demonstrate a commitment to responsible and ethical

business practices. e. Submissions or ideas must be practical and should have the potential to be

developed into a functional prototype using Intel® Edison Kit for Arduino and SeeedStudio Grove Starter Kit Plus or Intel® RealSense™ SDK and an Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera.

6. By submitting an entry into this Competition, your team is personally confirming in good faith and to the best of your knowledge and belief that:

a. Your team’s entry meets all the requirements set forth above and in the conditions for participation.

b. Your team’s entry is comprised of your team’s original work. 7. If the submission does not fulfil any of the above conditions, the entry will be deemed

ineligible and henceforth, disqualified. 8. Other rules and restrictions apply. Participants must read and agree to the complete

contest, official rules, terms, and conditions to enter.

BOOT CAMP & MENTORING SESSIONS

A two-day boot camp will be held on September 12th -13th, 2015 where finalist teams will be coached on innovation, Intel Architecture Technology (Intel® Edison & Intel® RealSense™) and the process of ideation to prototyping.

Each finalist team will have the opportunity to be mentored by experts in a 10-weeks period from September to November when teams are developing their prototypes.

FINAL JUDGING

The final judging event will consist of:

• 10 minutes pitch and demo in front of judges • 5 minutes Q&A and feedback session from the judges

AWARDS & PRIZES GRAND PRIZE TEAM

• Cash Prize: S$10,000 per team • Laptop featuring Intel® RealSense™ 3D Camera per team member • Intel internship opportunity

SECOND PRIZE TEAM • Cash Prize: S$5,000 per team • Intel internship opportunity

THIRD PRIZE TEAM • Cash Prize: S$3,000 per team • Intel internship opportunity

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

• Kick-Off Announcement: August 3rd, 2015 • Entry Submission Period: August 3rd to September 4th, 2015 • Finalists Announcement: September 9th, 2015 • Finalists Bootcamp: September 12th - 13th, 2015 • Final Judging & Invent 50 Grand Award Ceremony: Early December, 2015 (Date to be

TERMS & CONDITIONS

All submitted entries to the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition must represent original work that is not plagiarized or copied. Teams that infringe intellectual property, trademarks, copyrights or patents shall assume full responsibility for any violations. By submitting a proposal you will be granting the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition the right to use the received material for marketing and promotional purposes only. We will also have the unilateral right to modify any of the mentioned materials in its sole discretion in order to better adapt it to the different formats and layouts that different promotional mediums might require.

“Intellectual Property” shall mean any and all intellectual property rights, including without limitation all of the following and all rights in, arising out of, or associated therewith: (i) procedures, registered designs, registered databases, inventions, discoveries, and all United States and foreign patent applications, patents issued or issuable thereon; (ii) works of authorship, copyrights and other rights in works of authorship; (iii) mask works, and (iv) know-how, show-how and trade secrets, all of the preceding on a worldwide basis, but excluding trademarks, trade names, or other forms of corporate or product identification.

Intel Intellectual Property shall mean all Intellectual Property conceived or reduced to practice by Intel, with no involvement or contribution by Participants, as to its conception or reduction to practice. Intel Intellectual Property shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Intel, and Participants shall have no right, title or claim to such Intel Intellectual Property.

Participant Background Intellectual Property shall mean (i) any pre-existing Intellectual Property owned or controlled by Participants prior to participation in the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition or (ii) developed, conceived, obtained or acquired by Participants independently of the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition. Participant Intellectual Property shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Participants subject to the license rights granted to Intel hereunder.

Participants agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Intel harmless against any loss, cost, liability, and expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from any action or claim brought or threatened against Intel or its customers alleging that any of the applications submitted, short listed and or selected, infringe any patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual property rights of any third party, and or if Intel suffers any injury, loss or damages by breach of the warranties above.

Participants may be required to sign and return releases of liability, declarations of eligibility, and where lawful, publicity consent agreements, within five (5) days of acknowledged notification. If a selected potential winner cannot be contacted, and or is ineligible (under these rules or due to a failure to comply with any of the other applicable policies, licenses, rules, and terms of service), fails to claim a prize, or fails to timely return the completed and executed releases/agreements as required, prizes may be forfeited and an alternate potential winner may, at Intel’s discretion, be selected.

The top three teams shall each win a prize. The top three teams shall be selected by the panel of experts and judges appointed by Intel. The top three teams whose respective entry has the most creativity, most originality, most general appeal and best addresses the stated challenge (all as determined by the panel in its sole discretion) shall be the three winning teams.

Prizes awarded are non-transferable. All prizes are subject to availability and may change at any time at the discretion of Intel.

The winners accept responsibility for all central, state and local taxes and fees in connection with the prizes. The winner shall be solely responsible to obtain all permissions and authorizations to collect and receive the prize in accordance with the applicable laws.

Any breach of these Terms and Conditions herein shall disqualify the Participants from the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition at any stage.

By participating, Participants release Intel, from any and all liability, injury, loss and or damages with respect to and in any way arising from participating in the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition, any promotions associated with the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition, and or acceptance or use of prizes.

Participants agree that Intel has the right to cancel the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition, and or modify, amend, and or vary the terms and conditions of the Intel Singapore Invent50 Competition at any time without prior notice to Participants, and any such amendments are binding on Participants from the date of uploading of the same on the website. The Parties further agree that Participants are liable to ensure that they are updated with any amendment in such terms and conditions as may be uploaded on the website. The parties agree that in the event of any conflict or inconsistency between these terms and conditions and any other communications, including advertising or promotional material, the terms and conditions will prevail.

Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition reserves the right to make any changes to this document (dates, deadlines, requirement, etc.). Any modification will be announced on the official website. It is the responsibility of each team to regularly check for updates on contest procedures and rules.

Intel is not responsible for applications not received due to lost, failed, delayed or interrupted connections or miscommunications, or other electronic malfunctions. Intel is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry information, whether caused by Participants, any other persons or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Intel Singapore Invent 50 Competition.

Intel may change the timelines of the contest at its sole discretion.

The decision of Intel will be final and binding on the Participants.
