MS4 PERMIT UPDATE
As part of our Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Program, the Township will contract for the repair of an aging storm water detention basin located near Ancinetta Drive. The modified basin will better control heavy storm water flow reducing the volume of water discharging from the system and keeping sediment from entering the waterways. In addition, the Township crews will be checking, cleaning and making minor repairs to a number of other township owned basins. Most of the storm
water basins are located on private property and the maintenance and repair is done by the property owner or homeowner associations.
One of the most common, and easily corrected violations of the MS4 is the illegal discharge of grass onto the Township roadways. It is illegal to discharge grass, brush or other debris onto any roadway in the Township. The materials are washed or blown into the storm water inlets and roadside swales and eventually make their way into the waterways. Composting of these materials at your property is an easy way to correct this problem and creates rich organic materials
to enhance your garden or lawn. Those who wish to dispose of these materials may bring them to the yard waste facility located at the rear of the municipal building. Residents who continue to blow their grass into the roadways will be notified of the violation and may be fined if the problem is not corrected.
A community workshop will be help this Summer to discuss the MS4 programs and offer advice on BMP (Best Management Practices) that homeowners can do to reduce storm water run-off on their properties. More information on this workshop will be forthcoming on the Township Website.

Farmland Open Space Advisory Board
The North Whitehall Township Board of Supervisors is seeking residents who wish to serve on a Farmland/Open Space Advisory Board. The purpose of the Board is to help residents who are interested in permanently
preserving their property through the Lehigh County Farm Preservation Program. The Board will work with and provide information on how to apply for the program and provide support to property owners needing assistance with the process.
Interested residents should forward a letter of interest to the Board of Supervisors at 3256 Levans Road, Coplay, PA 18037.
It is anticipated that the first meeting will be held this Spring after members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

As we all work together as a community, our troops know that we stand behind them as they serve on our behalf protecting our freedom. The 2017 holidays have come and gone and we've entered a new year, but our Troops remain
deployed and they still need their Nation standing behind them.

News for Constituents By Senator Pat Browne, Appropriations Committee Chairman be prepared for freezing temperatures
This winter season has blanketed our region with frigid temperatures, which at times have dipped into the extremes. It is important to continue to be prepared for these persistent cold temperatures. Here are a few tips on how to better prepare your home for extreme cold weather:
Make sure to adequately shovel and salt driveways and sidewalks Identify the location of the shut-off valves for your water main, usually near the water meter and
keep water meter above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Disconnect garden hoses and winterize your outdoor faucet. Let faucets run at a trickle overnight during extremely cold weather. Wrap and insulate all water pipes in unheated areas.
If you need assistance paying for heating costs, Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help. For more information on this program, call: 1-866-857-7095. Applications are also available in my District Office at North Whitehall Township Municipal Building, 610-769-5566.
Property Tax & Rent Rebate Applications are Available The 2017 Property Tax and Rent Rebate program is now open and accepting applications. The program benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is no more than $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters during the 2016 year. Applicants are reminded that when calculating income, only half of Social Security income is included. The deadline to apply for a rebate program is June 30, 2018. Applications and information are available by visiting or calling any of my offices or by visiting the Property Tax and Rent Rebate section of PA Department of Revenue’s website. If you need assistance in filling out the application, my office staff are here to help. Make sure to provide all the necessary income, property tax or rental information – including a rent certificate signed by your landlord – for your claim to be processed accurately and quickly. Since the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program’s 1971 inception, older and disabled adults have received more than $6.7 billion in property tax and rent relief. The program is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and slots revenue.

Schnecksville Playground Association was founded in 1981
as a youth baseball organization which has now grown into one of the best youth sports organizations in this area. In addition to Baseball, we now offer Basketball, Lacrosse, and a Summer Day Camp. Although we have some very competitive teams including more advanced players, we have prided ourselves on the development of all youth players through our Recreational Programs. Community members are invited to our monthly General Meetings held on the third Thursday of each month (refer to website for times and locations).

NORTH WHITEHALL 35 & OVER SLO-PITCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE
The softball league will open its 26th season this May and is looking for teams or individual players interested in joining the league.
Teams play one doubleheader each week on either a Wednesday or Thursday night at the North Whitehall Township Municipal Building fields in Ironton. We will try to accommodate night preferences if possible. The league runs from May through early August.
Men must be 35 or over (born in 1983 or earlier). Although not designated a co-ed league, women are welcome to play. Women must be at least 18.
The league is unlimited arc with an oversized mat. Teams field 9 players, but may use unlimited extra hitters who may play the field in legal substitution. This is a wood bat league which preserves the integrity of the game of softball and keeps games safe and competitive, avoiding slugfests with juiced bats.
The league is self umped which is why the league fee is very reasonable at around $230.00. If interested, please call or text Joe Altieri at 610-554-8321 or email [email protected].
