A-Plus Galvanizing Inc.,Salina, Kan., has built what thecompany officials believe to bethe world's largest hot-dip galva­nizing plant. Inside this spa­cious, high-ceiling facility, is theworld's largest galvanizing ket-

tle, dubbed the Super Kettle. Asplant operations were beginning,A-Plus established a worldrecord by galvanizing the largestobjects ever to be hot-dip galva­nized in a single operation. Two45,200-lb utility poles, 74 ft. 5 in.long and 8 ft. 5 in. wide at thebase, were each galvanized in asingle immersion. Inside the172,000-ft2 building, four 50-toncranes are available to lift andtransport the racked workpiecesthrough the cleaning, rinsing,galvanizing, quenching, and fin­ishing operations. The plant israil accessible and can handle anestimated 60 truckloads of metala day and galvanize about 400million pounds of metal annu­ally.
