LOCUST PRESBYTERIAN
CHURCH
July 9, 2017
Our Mission: To be a place where people want and need to be
– where God is glorified in Jesus Christ and real human
needs are met. We will do this as Christ’s Church
through the power of the Holy Spirit as we worship,
study, serve and fellowship.

Prelude, Welcome, Announcements
Honoring Birthday & Anniversary
Children’s Message: Jackie Pfeiffer (Younger children dismissed to the Nursery for the rest of the service. Older Children please return to your seats.)
Call to Worship: God is waiting for us. With a tender heart and a
searching question. God is ready for us. With truth and wisdom
from a deep well. God is blessing us. With springs of living
water. God is sending us To sing, pray and witness every day.
God is hear – Let the conversation begin.
*Ingathering Song: Take Time to Be Holy
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His word.
Make friends of God’s children; help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, let Him be thy guide,
And run not before Him whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow still follow thy Lord,
And looking to Jesus, still trust in His word.
*Prayer of Confession: God of love, we know the fractures and splits
of community. We know the painful disagreements, the harsh words,
the stubborn silences, the turned backs. We know the work needed to
be together, to thrive and communicate, to abide and serve together.
God of hope, you have placed in us a yearning to dwell together in
unity, to live by a larger vision, to believe in a deeper trust. You have
sent Jesus to be our example, guide and Savior. And you have sent the
Spirit to work in and through us in surprising and often hidden ways
– that we might be blessed and strengthened by our life together.
Touch us once again with the mystery and wonder of being a
community of faith. Through Jesus Christ, who holds us all in grace
and love. Amen.
SESSION MEETING UPDATES
At the Session meeting on June 27, several things were addressed. The Mission
Study Team reported that they had begun their work to develop a survey for the
congregation. (Mission Committee members are Fred Wickert, Ray Bradford, Jane
Blackman, Jaime Kappes, Dennis Joyner, Micheal Longhurst and Amy Bates). The
Elders want to engage a temporary supply pastor as soon as feasible.
Negotiations are in process for this to happen and we should have an
announcement soon. We will celebrate Communion quarterly and on special
occasions. Plans were discussed for the upcoming cookout and games evening.
The Elders also discussed the Wednesday meals and a plan to hold the meals on
the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays beginning in September if meal team leaders were
agreeable. The meals will be primarily for congregational fellowship. The Elders
approved the use of the Fellowship Hall for a fundraising effort for a health need
and the use of the church for a collection location for the Samaritan’s Purse shoe
boxes.

MUSIC NOTES
Today we’ll introduce a new praise song. This one is new to us, but was introduced in 2012 by Keith and Kristyn Getty. This song has a great message of unity and has been performed at many Christian conferences and gatherings. The Getty’s are known for being modern hymn writers. Enjoy learning this new song. The choir anthem during the offering is an old gospel tune sung by many including Aretha Franklin, Hovie Lister, James Brown and even, Dionne Warwick. The Old Landmark was actually featured in a scene of The Blues Brothers. You can always come back to the landmarks that are left for you!
WELCOME TODAY We welcome Lou and Jackie Pfeiffer back with us this Sunday. Lou is a Commissioned Lay Pastor and has served several churches in the Presbytery as an interim pastor. He has come back to us numerous times and always has a great message.
SUMMER COOK OUT
Summer Cookout, Ice Cream and Games planned for NEXT Sunday, July 16. Join us for an evening of hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream; plus outdoor games and fun. We'll start at 5:00 PM and enjoy some great time together. Dust off the lawn chairs and join us! BRING A FRIEND!!!
SAVE THE DATE FOR VBS
The Girl Scouts are planning to host our Vacation Bible School this summer on July 28-29. Mark your calendar AND save the date. The title this year is “Camp Out, Getting S’more of Jesus. Somehow chocolate bars, graham crackers and marshmallows will be involved. Sounds like a great combination.
*Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
World without end, Amen, Amen.
*Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the
third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from
thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in
the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church; the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life
everlasting. Amen.
Praise Song: Oh How Good It Is
Oh how good it is when the family of God dwells together in spirit,
In faith and unity, where the bonds of peace, of acceptance and love,
Are the fruit of His presence here among us.
Refrain
So with one voice we’ll sing to the Lord,
And with one voice we’ll live out His word
Till the whole earth sees the Redeemer has come,
For He dwells in the presence of His people
Oh how good it is on this journey we share to rejoice with the happy
And weep with those who mourn. For the weak find strength,
The afflicted find grace, when we offer the blessing of belonging.
Oh how good it is to embrace His command to prefer one another
Forgive as He forgives. When we live as one we all share in the love
Of the Son with the Father and the Spirit.
