UNIFORM REMINDER

Students attending Wollumbin High School are expected to wear our uniform with pride, and most students do so.

Students not in correct uniform should have a note from a parent/carer providing an explanation. We have loan uniforms to assist students for that day. Some Student Assistance funds are available (via application) if families need some financial support to ensure students are in uniform.

Correct footwear is essential – solid, black closed in shoes – not canvas – as practical subjects require this for protection. Students who are not in correct footwear will not be able to participate in practical learning experiences. Please assist us with this matter and outfit your student in the correct footwear

These styles of shoes are ACCEPTABLE FOOTWEAR The school expects students to follow Department of Education and Communities Policy and the OHS Act 2000 by wearing enclosed leather, lace-up, buckle or Velcro fastened shoes. They must cover the whole top of the foot and have a low heel.

These styles of shoes are UNACCEPTABLE FOOTWEAR Students must not wear skate shoes, black soft ballet style shoes, open top Mary-Jane shoes, canvas or similar material type shoes. If you are not sure what footwear is acceptable then please consult the school before buying new shoes. A salesperson at a shoe shop will not necessarily give you the correct advice in terms of approved school styles. Please check with the school.

NB: Shoes must be of a solid leather type to satisfy safety requirements. Failure to wear these types of shoes may result in temporary exclusion from a practical subject.

In the senior AWD section Clancy Whiteman was awarded age champion and gained this with his three first places.

SPORT REPORT

Wollumbin has been very successful with sport selections in the last few weeks. Despite the difficulty with the weather a number of selection trials were finally able to get underway.

VOLLEYBALL

Makaela Davis has been selected as a shadow for the North Coast side.

FOOTBALL

Makaela Davis, Katrina Marr, Samuel Layton and Toby Guinea are currently travelling to Port Macquarie as part of the FC Football team.

Both the boys and girls football team were extremely competitive at the gala day. Both teams were defeated in round 3 with the boys’ team only being defeated by a golden goal. From this Sam Layton, Toby Guinea, Damian Singh, Katrina Marr, Brooke Maynard and Emily Anderson were selected in the Northern Division Far North Coast team. Unfortunately Emily had to withdraw from this team.

AFL

Matt Wells has been selected in the FNC AFL team.

TERM 2

Sport selections are now underway for term 2. These are available on Moodle and can be selected from home. A lot of sports are filling rapidly so make your selection quickly.

A reminder - sport is a compulsory part of the curriculum and absences must be explained. A pattern of absences will be dealt with under the school’s disciplinary policy.

NORTH COAST SWIMMING

Seven Wollumbin High School students attended the North Coast Swimming carnival in Coffs Harbour on March 7th.

Between the grey skies and scattered showers there were lots of bright smiles as six of the swimmers progress onto Combined High School state swimming.

Two swimmers have also been selected to swim long distance events based on official times from other competitive carnivals.

This brings the total to seven swimmers going state swimming.

BUS INFORMATION FROM BHANGALA PTY LTD

ABN. 12060907 780

Dear Parent/Guardian,

There are 3 important issues that I would like to bring to your attention which directly relate to the safety of your child/children when travelling on school buses.

1) In the event of a bus not being able to deliver students to their normal drop-off points because of flooding, and if contact cannot be made with the parent/guardian, the students will be returned to their school.

Should the school be unstaffed the students will be taken to the bus depot and further attempts will be made to contact the parent / guardian.

If there are other families that the students can be left with, then you must notify the bus company in writing.

This is imperative for our duty of care to the students and for the students safety.

2) If a student is to travel to a place other than their normal drop-off point the bus company must be notified.

This can be done by a note signed by you, which the student can hand to the driver, by phoning the bus company office or phoning the school which will issue the student with a note to hand to the driver.

Under no circumstances can we transport students to a different location than normal with out your authorization.

3) It is a legal requirement that when seatbelts are fitted in a bus they must be worn.

It would be very much appreciated if you would encourage your child/children to wear them. Remember, they are fitted for the safety of your children.

Thanking you in anticipation of your cooperation.
