No matter how old we are, we often feel the need of our Mom. For if you are blessed to have a Mom, appreciate her and make her feel special and Moms remember that the role of a Mother is the most vital one in the development of your child. Moms of the community re-member that it takes a village to raise a child. Your child is my child and my child is your child. Lets cherish our children of Plett.

A Mother's Love There are times only when a Mother's love Can understand our tears, Can soothe our disappointments And calm all our fears.

There are times when only a Mother's Love Can share the joy we feel When something we've dreamed about Quite suddenly is real.

There are times when only a Mother's faith Can help on life's way And inspire in us the confidence We need from day to day.

For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith And a Mother's steadfast love Were fashioned by the Angels And sent from God above by Michael O. Adesanya

    WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 10 MAY 2012

was very full when the parents elected the new SGB, parents were 1322 attended the election meeting and some of parents were outside the hall. The parents loved their school. Parents believe that education can better the life of their children and nation as a whole and some of the learners can be president, ministers, doctors, engineers of our country. They are supporting their children 100%. Bravo!! The parents of Plettenberg Bay. Here is the list of the new SGB committee. Chairperson: Mr Xhwelesha Deputy Chairperson: Mr July Secretary: Ms Sulani Deputy Secretary: Ms James Treasurer: Mrs Lutywantsi Discipline: Mr Zumani Religion: Ms Dano Eco-school and Environment: Mr Gusha The old SGB has been already handover the power to new SGB peacefully and friendly. The new friends from Plettenberg Bay Town, the Nursery Tom cutted the grass in the sport field. Well done Mr Tom, we are proud of you and your staff. Bitou 10 Foundation and Nedbank of plett Bay provided uniform cloths, stationery and school bags to the need children. Nedbank and Bitou 10 Foundation make huge differ-ence at community. We are so luck to be visited by American Youth, Life World Out-reach and music without boundaries. Rev Dee blessed our school. Municipality sent the Bambanani to protect the school during the teaching and learning time. The discipline of learners have improving very fast. We salute the Mayor to provide protection. The school has big numbers of learners, we have 1522 learners. We changed the Elsen class and library class into normal teaching classes. The department of education has promised that they will build new school in 2013. At the moment WCED will provide two permanent classes this year. We are still waiting on their promises. We are appealing to community to be patient and give the department of education a chance to solve problem. We have two new teachers Mrs Gelembe and Mrs Nyathela. They are very talented in teaching. They can turnaround the academic results of the school. Last week, we played against Wittedrift Primary in soccer, rugby and netball. The results are

Phakamisani Primary News The school opened on the 10 April 2012. 1400 learn-ers attended the first day of the school and 99% of educators were present at school. We use the assistant teachers to fill the gap of the absent teacher. The school was normal on the first day. Educators are willing to teach and learners are keen to learn. The atmosphere of the school is fantastic and positive. Everybody has a common goal and a common vision. We are hoping that our school will be an excellent and competent institution. The academic results of the first term is 94% but systematic evaluation results of Grade 3 and Grade 6 are not good enough. Educators must put more effort on teaching and learning strategies and interventions. We have good news, the school has received awards of school of the year, coach of the year Mr Busakwe and player of the year Sibusiso Mazibuko in soccer in the Western Cape. The school is very proud of Mr Busakwe and the learner Sibusiso Mazibuko. They will also take part in the National Soccer Games in Gauteng. We have new SGB committee, the house

Rugby academy is coming slowly, surely and effectively. We have a beautiful garden and neat. It feeds hundreds of learners. The garden is monitored by Mr Ntsikelelo Peter. Keep it up the good work Mr Peter. My conclusion, we need to go back to basics such as three Rs, writing, reading and reciting. The learners must do calculation every day and recite with understanding the time-table. The children must be taught from their earliest school years to be lateral and critical thinkers, good communicators and innovative problem solvers. Thank you from X.D. DR SEUSS THE LORAX The latest Dr. Seuss book to get the Hollywood treatment revolves around The Lorax, who would like to fix the pollution in his town, caused by a greedy industrialist. Help arrives in the form of a young man desperate to impress his girlfriend by producing a real tree, not the plastic ones they have in town. This sets up the battle between the young man, The Lorax, and the evil mayor. Voices of Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Rob Riggle, Jenny Slate AMERICAN PIE: REUNION The gang gets together again for their high school reunion. Over the last decade much has happened ... some relationships have lasted, others have not, and at least one remains unfulfilled. As they relive their teen years over the weekend,

perhaps they will find the inspiration to tie up those loose ends. CAST: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas OTHELO BURNING Shot in Durban and directed by Sara Blecher (Surfing Soweto), the film tells the story of a group of township kids who discover the joy of surfing. Its set in 1989, against a backdrop of brewing conflict between two politi-cal groups in Lamontville. When 16-year-old Otelo Buthelezi takes to the water for the first time, its clear that he was born to surf. But then tragedy strikes. On the day that Nelson Mandela is released from prison, Otelo is forced to choose between-surfing success and justice. This is a beautifully made, insightful and entertaining film that captures a turbulent time in the history of South Africa. THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL We follow a group of British retirees who decide to enjoy their retirement in less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past. WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 10 MAY 2012 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE FAMILY 2012 FAMSAs Hug Project FAMSA PLETTENBERG BAY The 15th May is International Family Day and to celebrate this day FAMSA will once again be launching their successful Hug Project to encourage tolerance, friendship and a caring attitude amongst the members of families, friends and in the society. The call for moral regeneration continues to be heard throughout the world. The high rate of crime and violence is being laid in front of the door of each individual. No longer can we blame someone else if we do not maintain a personal level of integrity & responsibility. The Family is the very core of any society. Regardless of culture, a healthy and stable family environment evolves into a healthy and stable community, society and even economy. Dysfunctional family life is often the root cause of most of the challenges facing society. To create awareness about how important positive relationships are stickers, with the logo Hug show you care, will be for sale at various points during May. You are encouraged to place a sticker on the back of anyone that you have hugged!! Although the 15th is actually International Family Day FAMSA has identified May as Family Month. There is a great need to bring more love and joy into the world and this is a fun way to do it. Contact FAMSAs offices on 044-382-5129 or 044-533-0515 for more info and to buy your stickers.

Plett Jewish Commu-nity supports the less fortunate In honour of the recently celebrated Jewish festival of Purim, a time of giving, young Jewish children attending the Plettenberg Bay Synagogue packed sweet-parcels for donation to the less fortunate local children. The Jewish Ladies Guild of Plettenberg Bay, the conveners of this project, also arranged for the distribution of donated food to sick adults at this time. These donations were distributed to, and joyously received by, the children and adults at the Bossiesgiff Industrial Soup Kitchen. wobbly and sleepy enough to be picked up, held and carried by yet more volunteers to the prep. section . One volunteer , David- Hall Green, we discovered could speak Xhosa, he was indispensable in explaining that, in fact, the pets would sleep, be operated on, and would only be able to be taken home about 2to 2 and a half hours later. There was a choice to be made: go home, away or to church and return later, or remain . The majority remained, waiting for their loved ones to come round. It was heart warming to witness. One owner, Kenneth, was intending to walk with his dog at this stage a lead- weight - from Kwano to New Horizons about 2 kms! He was given transport by PAWS. Such is the devotion and good intention still out there. Once the dogs and cats had had their pre-meds, they were carried by volunteers to the next station- headed up by Janet Hampson and her team of volunteers - where they were shaved, sterilized and prepped for the operation. Then a team of six Veterinary Surgeons, headed up by Doctors: Brendon Tindall and Steph Nel and ably teamed up with Kat Davis, Laura Snyman, Hilana Steyn and Natalie Genlloud got to work. All of these vets gave up their valuable free time to spay/neuter for PAWS. These sur-geons stood from 0800h until past 1300h More than 5 hours in operation! Here PAWS acknowledges the incredible input had from KAWS (Knysna Animal Welfare) over the years with their help in setting up and assist-ing us with spay clinics. The hall looked like an image from a war movie. On the floor were make- shift beds all towels and blankets donated by the kind grace of the Plett. com-munity. They lay, tongues protruding from the sides of their mouths, comfortable on these makeshift beds and covered in warm towels

and blankets. When they came round they shivered in shock, but willing volunteers were there to soothe them and talk them through the confusion of their awakening and the pain in their nether regions. When they were ready, they were given to their owners in the donated blankets and towels, with indicators of post operative care and a date on which to return their pets to have the stitches removed by Robert of PAWS when he dips in Kwano on Mon 21 May and 22 May. During the proceedings of this amazing day God sent arrived an emaciated, beyond damaged four- legged child on the perimeters of the premises. Wendy and Robert spent much time in luring this poor child and even-tually gathered it , all the while screaming, and delivered it from misery to a place free from starvation and pain. We were also very happy to welcome the visit by Mr Andile Sakati, Pletts Chief of Law Enforcement and Municipal Security, who came to observe the Spay Day proceedings in solidarity with the cause of Animal Welfare in Bitou. I have always acknowledged the good works done in our community but , having personally witnessed that which occurred on Sunday at Simunye I am simply AWE-STRUCK!! Thank you to all of you who have the courage, fortitude and LOVE in the face of so much agony to make it BETTER ! May the choirs of angels sing in exultation to all you unsung heroes! Michelle

Letter via the Editor UNSUNG HEROES As an animal lover I have always supported the cause by donating old clothes, donating money, buying raffle tickets etc. The easy option. What I experienced on Sunday 6 May at the PAWS Spay Day held at Simunye in Kwanok-thula was humbling in the extreme. I must, first, pay tribute to Janet Hampson of Horse and Hound for the organisation of Vets and medical assistants and indeed, for the raising of the funds which made this day possible. Our chairperson of PAWS, Di Butlin rose at 04h30, took a team of workers to clean and sterilize the hall. She also ensured that the loos had sterilizing soap and fresh towels. Among less than sanitary conditions, Di worked wonders in getting the venue viable. Holding cages were erected. Robert, Heidi and her helpers and Godfrey Bass were dispatched into the community to bring in animals for neutering. At 0800 the gate was opened, chairs were available to owners and familes who brought their beloved pets to be spayed. From registration, headed up by Hedy Carmody, owners took their animals to be vaccinated and de-wormed only or, further, for their pre-meds in anticipation of spaying/neutering, by a team headed up by WendyAbbott and Mandy Chant. Owners were received at the temporary enclosures by willing volunteers who assisted them in calming, strok-ing and talking to the pets until they were suitably

discontinued. Our latest account, dated 23 April, was only available in our Post Box on Saturday, 5 May. It contained an (undated) insert, in-forming ratepayers that: The draft budget for 2012/2013 was available and should be commented on by 11 May, and The draft Integrated Development Plan for 2012/2013 was available and should be commented on by 27 April 2012! To top it all, some ratepayers have received backdated bills for refuse removal, and now also for something called augmented sewage fees the latter apparently to the tune of about nine thousand rand per prop-erty! In Keurbooms we have been complaining (in writing) about the quality of sewerage and street infrastructure for the past three years without any success. Would Bitou Municipality be prepared - or able - to indicate what percentage of rate-payers money is ploughed back into each of the various areas in an attempt to render decent services? Or will they continue to create tags which allow them to milk yet more money out of law-abiding ratepayers? At a Bitou Ratepayers meeting in March, we were informed by Municipal Officials that, due to poor budgeting in the past, the annual municipal increase would be about 16%. It was unclear what this would include: rates; service charges; electricity; VAT or all of the aforementioned? Have they ever thought of conducting a census to establish how many Bitou ratepayers are pensioners? The time has really arrived for Bitou Munici-pality to stop playing politics and the blame game. It is time to consider law-abiding ratepayers and to provide them with decent services. Marlene van Schalkwyk Keurboomstrand

Letter via the Editor BITOU RATEPAYERS OR CASH COWS? It seems that Bitou Municipality have found a single good use for law-abiding ratepayers: to bleed them dry. In November 2011 Keurboomstrand prop-erty owners received accounts from Bitou Municipality, reflecting arrears backdated to July 2011, since we had been incorrectly billed for (cheaper) sanitation instead of (more expensive) sewage. Upon paying these arrears, we were assured (verbally) that no further backdating would be imple-mented. But lo and behold, on 11 April 2012 an undated letter, signed by the Acting Munici-pal Manager, Mr Thys Giliomee, informed us that our accounts were being backdated to July 2009 for sewage services adding about R4 000,00 to each property owners account. Upon complaining, we were told to make enquiries with Mr Bredenhahn at the Munici-pality, who informed us that we were obliged to pay the difference, because: Service fees are published and ratepayers must complain before these are imple-mented. It was our responsibility, at the time, to inform the Municipality that we were being billed incorrectly. (This would imply that we are all qualified accountants who would be able to notice the mistakes at a glance.) Even though it was their mistake, which they only realized two years later, The Municipality passes its own by-laws which legally entitles it to increase service fees and rates, to backdate accounts and even to charge interest on these and we should be grateful that we are not being charged interest. Paradoxically, ratepayers have no legal recourse in the Consumers Act (which apparently stipulates that debt older than two years must be written off), because this was a new levy which had just been issued. If ratepayers refused to pay the backdated accounts, their services would simply be

One of Pletts great ladies passed on, on Friday. Many folk will remember Hilary Peter with great fondness...

Hilary Ashley Newdigate Peter Hilary was born on 13 October 1926 in Knysna to Francis and Jo Newdigate. She grew up during the war years where she trained as an auxiliary fire fighter, whilst still a school girl at St Winnifreds School in George. After school she went to

Grahamstown where she trained as a teacher. Once qualified, she set off for East London where she met Ken Peter, a young aspiring lawyer, whom she married on 30 September 1949. In 1955, they moved to Komga with the first three of their five children, Richard, Kate and Frank.

They fell in love with and bought a large property in town almost large enough to keep her beloved horses. A few years later John and Suzie completed the family.

During her years in Komga, she taught on and off for many years, opened up

antiques shops under her second name, Ashley, which were very well known throughout South Africa, that had many collectors coming back year after year to buy the pieces she had lovingly restored. At some point in the latter part of the

sixties, she purchased a farm outside Komga to run her by now rather large number of horses (most of which our father was oblivious of) and which included a batch of starved, rather wild horses from the Free State and who had probably never seen people before they were caught and put on the train to Komga. Needless to say they were not equipped with homing pigeon instinct and took off through Komga in different directions.

As if she did not have enough on her plate, she took on Forest Hall which was a

mammoth task to say the least. It had stood derelict for a number of years and was in desperate need of tender loving care. Initially we holidayed there, mostly sleeping in the large front room, too scared to

venture upstairs or down some of the dark passages. Eventually she had Forest Hall looking great and turned it into a guest farm which she ran with a variety of staff for the next fifteen years before moving into town. Not prepared to get rid of her wonderful arab horses she purchased a large property in the Piesang Valley so that she could continue to breed and just enjoy the horses.

Her health started to deteriorate shortly after her eightieth birthday and for the past five years, she has struggled with a

number of debilitating ailments which clipped her wings quite substantially. After a nasty fall in January, her health took a turn for the worst and she quietly slipped away on Friday 4 May.

She will be remembered for her incredible energy, sense of style, artistic flair, an enthusiastic horsewoman who never balked at trying something new. She loved her time in Plett where she made so many wonderful friends who took such good care of her especially in her declining years.

Oriented Birds Newsfeed Good day people, let me first apologise for the absentee of our blog on previous publication, It was just a monor tactical problem. Ill start with the game that we won here @ home, which I think its long overdue regarding the way we have been playing. Last week Friday we lost 2-1 Cape Town All Stars, one of the most powerful sides in this League as they have about six professional players on their side but I rate that game the best game so far. Gugulethu people couldn't believe that we are a team that is on the verge of relegation and once again, I salute the entire team, well played majimbos. As I,ve mentioned previously that we have already started the preparations for the next season, in our mist we have an ex professional player and now qualified coach by the name of Max Banzi. Some are familiar with this name as he played for Kaizer Chiefs and Bush Bucks. At the moment he is helping out as he has same vision as ours. As we have a development academy our coach has temporary moved to the academy to work with other coaches there are to nurture raw diamondsin that camp so to our supporters lets show the team another thriller this weekend as we will be playing against Mbekweni United from Cape Town here at home, New Horizon on Saturday at 15H00. Its pay back time and we love you all. I thank you and God bless yall. Thanks to one of our special readers for sharing this snippet - author unknown - My Friend I've learned that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life. That it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be. That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them. That you can keep going long after you've said you can't. That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel. That either you control your attitude or it controls you. That regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place. That heroes are the people that do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences. That money is a lousy way of keeping score. That my best friend and I can do anything and nothing and still have the best time ever. That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up. That sometimes then I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel. That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. The same goes for true love. that just because someone doesn't love you the way that you want them to doesn't mean that they don't love you with all they have. That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated. That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that. That no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief. That our background and circumstances may have influences who we are, but we are responsible for who we become. That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do. That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change. That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret, it could change your life forever. That two people can look at exactly the same thing and see something

The last few days when I have been up in the early morning (7.30) I have actually had to put on my old tatty (used to be white) towelling (not much towelling left) gown and Beloved's sheepskin slippers. Three sizes too big. I then head downstairs to get the bird food, and of course the entire bird community is lining my outer walls and driveway. They do worry a bit about this 'new' mom with blue nose and funny long outfit, but they are starving and have to accept the fashion show. Just a couple of weeks ago I was parading a different nightie for the neighbours daily. We had a quiet weekend - Beloved told me not to bother with watering most of the garden as the ground is too cold and nothing really grows. That accounts for my stringy, dried out, wispy stuff on my head. Does not grow because the ground (sorry head) is cold. Do frogs hibernate

or did Henry, our giant frog just leave after I tried to stroke him one night? We have just had my family here for five days, my Mummy and my two siblings plus friend. They say that Plett is the coldest place in South Africa. Keeping in mind these are Durbanites and Gautengites. Plett did come to the fore though for their visit this time, the weather was warm, even hot. Very proud of you Plett and no tyre burning, no striking, no police presence in fact peaceful little seaside town. We had a wonderful time showing them around. Took them to Bramon for tasting and lunch. Mum at 86 is chairlady of her wine club and will never miss a chance. She and her friend went on ahead so as not to be disturbed by my moaning, and my watching every sip she takes like a jail warden. I have always thought this wine farm had a fancy french name, but having met the owners, the name comes from half the name of each of the two children. Family have been coming here twice a year for four years but we still manage to find something different to show them. Like me, they are not beach people but love eating out. The girls have found a new Grand place to have lunches. New for us, but we have been there a number of times. You sit on the lovely soft couches (feels like home) and have your drinkies. When the food is ready they call you to your table with a FIRE being laid there this last week. Heaven. Sad thing is, like a lot of eating places in Plett they are all about to close for six to eight weeks to rest their staff and renovate. Damn that is NOT good. This means the hunting for a good warm place that makes good strawberry daiquiris! Bye for now and speak to you next week love CHATTERBOX LONG LEASE: 2B/1B apartment at Santini village, swimming pool. R3 200.00 pm excl. L/W.
