ecoTERRA Remediation Services Inc. is a British Columbia, Canada corporation, formed in 1999 to become the the operations and actuation subsidiary of ecoTECH Waste Management Systems (1991) Inc. (www.etwm.ca), a federally incorporated Canada company that holds, owns, licenses and is trustee for a wide range of environmental remediation and

sustainable energy generation technologies.

ecoTECH has forged many technological and corporate arrangements, joint ventures and strategic alliances to encompass a much greater range of waste management and pollution eradication activities that one company or group could accomplish alone. This sharing and participation philosophy has engendered world wide acceptance and consequently ecoTERRA is now required to function in diverse and evolving methodologies to accomplish its pollution removal tasks in a variety of circumstances.

During the past 5 years, the ecoTECH has worked to develop ecoTERRA with an arsenal of equipment designs, technologies, methods and remediants. Where ecoTERRA could not afford to tackle particular opportunities, strategic alliances were formed to where the Company provided the solution and a joint venture company provided the equipment and manpower to get the job done. An example of a joint venture is where any soil clean-up jobs occur in Alberta, our operations partner, the successful firm Nelson Remediation Services Inc. will take on the operational work with a flow-through profit participation for ecoTERRA.

ecoTECH has been active in China for the past thirteen years.

Representative marketers China-Link has launched a range of extremely effective remedial products in North America, following outstanding successes in China, Vietnam and Spain. China-Link’s appointed operator for implementation is ecoTERRA.

Also, ecoTECH Alberta Inc., another ecoTECH joint venture, secured (in 2005) the exclusive marketing rights for a unique chemical formula liquid that instantly separates soil (sand, gravel, topsoil, clays, etc.) from entrained oil and water. This new, but proven liquid (E.C.O. 58) is to be utilized for cold (non-thermal) soil and tar-sands clean up. ecoTERRA has the rights to distribute and to utilize this unique non-polluting and recyclable catylitic chemical in British Columbia.

Nelson has been “burning dirt” (colloquialism for thermal desorbtion soil remediation) in Alberta for a number of years now, very successfully. The Nelson expansion plans include ecoTECH Eradicators and sono-chemical de-agglomeration units. In British Columbia, ecoTERRA has plans to use the Eradicator for quick, efficient on-site thermal remediation of BTEX contaminated sites such as gas stations and other installation where underground storage tanks (UST’s) leaks cause soil and aquifer pollution.

Why use the the Eradicator?

In-situ site soil treatment is the optimum choice for remediation projects. Soil washing, leacheate trapping, aeration and advanced microbial treatments these days work wonderfully well. If there is the ability to

take a slow and measured approach to remediation, these proven methods will suffice, but what if the site has to be cleaned up in a hurry?

Examples of urgent soil remediation needs include storage tank leakage sites, gas filling stations demolished for UST and “kerb-appeal” upgrades (these clients do not wish to lose otherwise ongoing business or regular customers), and closed or end-of-lease oil and gas wells, where remediation is mandated to occur prior to new lease to be issued to a client.

There a two ways to remediate these types of site in a hurry:

1] Excavate the soil and remove it to a processing station for recycling, or to a landfill. This incurs heavy transportation costs, perhaps replacement soil costs and contingent liability in the transportation and landfill “generator risk” categories.

2] “Burn Dirt” in situ. No transportation off site, no risks associated with it and no off-site processing and landfilling costs. All in all a huge saving. The excavation can be progressive, with on-site processing and replacement affording the ability to work on the remediated sections as each sector is certified for use. This is especially useful with larger sites, so the “down time” is reduced substantially.

ecoTERRA is first an environmental company. It was formed with the philosophy of ensuring that processed soils, (especially thermally desorpted soils). are revitalized with living microbial and faunal activity, humus and aeration, after cremation. Depending on the metals present in the soil, a treatment with ecoTECH’s natural hydroxyl apatite and ecoMIX may also be applied. This ultra-responsible approach sets ecoTERRA apart from other thermal treatment operations. We are still very competitive and profitable.

The Eradicator is quick and economical. Economics.......the Eradicator can use solid or liquid waste fuels. The highest cost of treatment today is incurred by the use of fossil fuels in combustion and transportation of soil.

The Gas Filling Station Example

Petrol (gasoline) filling station remediation is a regular occurance in most cities. The problems of inconveniencing the public and the need to get the station remediated and refitted as quickly

as possible drives the requirement for the Eradicator type of service: drive-in, fix the problem and be off the site in the shortest time, whilst ensuring safety and compliance.

In Appendix 1 there is a fully detailed project component and costing analysis of a typical gas station project.

Gas station soil remediation is always undertaken after careful planning of the program, following soil tests to indicate all of the contaminants (not just BTEX) in the soil, so that other pollution of special conditions can be accomodated in the remediation treatment.

Soil make-up after treatment is always carefully addressed.*

VariablesTHAT AFFECT THE ON-SITE THERMAL REMEDIATION of HYDROCARBON CONTAMINANTS IN SOILS.

ecoTERRA is able to provide on-site remediation services for sites contaminated with hydrocarbon contaminants at a total cost comparable to the current dumping fees alone. The

process used has a tested efficiency rate of 98% recovery; cleaning Petroleum contaminated soils to MTC Act Table V Class 2 Levels.

The effectiveness and pricing of this process depends on a number of variables, including (but not limited to):

• Type of contaminants involved• Level of contamination• Amount and depth of soil impacted• Proximity and level of water table or aquifers• Soil type and moisture content• Site layout and conditions• Independent laboratory proximity for testing

Prior to ecoTERRA being able to quote on any specific remediation contract, the client must supply a full, independently prepared, environmental report to ecoTERRA.

This on-site all inclusive remediation service eliminates the need for the excavation of materials by the client, the provision for transporting those materials to a dumpsite (with its inherent liability consequences and ever-increasing costs), and the replacement of the excavated material with “clean” fill. So-called “clean” fill can carry a variety of entrained herbicides, insecticides and very little humic fauna and flora residues to become living, sustainable soils.......ruining the whole point of the program!

Thermal Soil Remediation

*ecoTERRA pre-treatment planning goes beyond the usual soil sample laboratory testing to determine the nature and volume of contaminants. We examine the indigenous matrices of the surrounding area soils, paying particular attention to potentially beneficial microbial and vermiform fauna. Each ecoTERRA site

has a mini “seeding farm” (an adjacent patch of aerated and finely tilled soil) with local worms, bugs and insects to inoculate the roasted soil, which of course is mineral only. Local, mulched flora humus is also added. In cases where the soil is eroded, completely depleted by generations of chemical “additives”, defoliants or pesticides, or dameged so that only the mineral components exist, we make up living soils as close as possible to what should be there.

Page 9

The panic reaction of the authorities during the BC outbreak resulted in tens of millions of slaughtered birds, (some contaminated, most culled “just in case”), being placed in bags

and buried on, or near, the farms that now breed, feed and farm new generations of the same species that lie rotting, (infected and probably still contageous), beneath the ground around the bird barns.

Unfortunately, there were no Eradicators in the province. An ecoTERRA Eradicator is a mobile, quickly deployed incinerator. Bird carcases, bagged or not, can be fed into the tumble kiln and the residence time adjusted by configuring the rotational (auger effect) speed of the rotary kiln to deliver only ash residue, or bone char, a major source of hydroxyl apatite (see apatite section on heavy metal leachate prevention).

The ecoTERRA Eradicator offers the following advantages for crisis control:

◙ Immediate mobilization to site

◙ Set up in 3-4 hours

◙ Can run continuously until threat eradicated

◙ Absolute pathogen kill

◙ Kiln dwell (thermal residence time) adjustable

◙ 1 metre inlet throat fits all birds

◙ Exhaust scrubbing can include disinfectant

◙ ecoFRESH wash (hose down) on board

◙ Can be moved warm to next site.

The unique interior auger design of the rotary kiln allows for rotation speed control of combustion dwell time to ensure carcase burn-out and pathogen kill. The on-board diesel power unit has a high pressure water pump for disinfectant and ecoFRESH spray-down, when leaving the contamination site. ecoFRESH microbes kill pathogens and mosquito eggs,

Avian Flu and other contageousanimal waste problems

What is avian influenza?

Avian influenza (AI) is a contagious viral infection caused by the influenza virus Type “A”, which can affect several species of food producing birds (chickens, turkeys, quails, guinea fowl, etc.), as well as pet birds and wild birds.

In May 2004, the provincial government of British Columbia signed an emergency order giving it the power to dump infected bird carcasses in several landfills. Since February that year, a highly

infectious strain of avian flu had struck 29 commercial poultry farms in the Fraser Valley east of Vancouver, as well as 10 so-called backyard chicken flocks. The disease, which can kill a flock in days, jumped from farm to farm despite efforts to contain it in the original five-kilometer-wide “hot zone.”

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency implemented a massive cull of the 19-million poultry flock in the Fraser Valley’s 700 commercial farms. Even pets and aviary birds were slaughtered. It was a poorly organized, badly exercised testimony to lack of disaster planning. Greater Vancouver’s largest landfill at Cache Creek refused to dispose of the carcases. Vancouver Island banned transportation of bird or bird products from the Lower Mainland.

Background & Philosophy

Chemical fertilizers and pesticides are by-products of the oil industry, a convenient way of utilizing otherwise pollution-causing toxic wastes to accelerate crop growth and expand

crop yields. By convincing the world’s farmers that the chemical products are necessary to increase productivity, the industry has managed, whilst making huge profits from “fertilizers” and pesticides, to defray the cost of toxin disposal under the guise of helping mankind. Now the extent of the damage to our life-sustaining soils is beginning to be understood, we must not allow ignorance of natural balances to ruin forever the symbiotic infrastructure of agricultural, horticultural and silviculture sustainability.

Understanding the impacts helps us facilitate remediation and repair, without productivity losses and with great strides in the quest for sustainability. Once a healthy, balanced soil ecosystem is disrupted by the excessive use of soluble synthetic fertilizers, restoring it can be a long and costly process. In many cases, the excessive use of fossil fueled energy-intensive petroleum-based fertilizers and pesticides have destroyed the biological fertility of soil, so increasing amounts of the synthetic materials are used to induce crop growth.

The living part of soil is just as critical to plant growth as the physical soil structures. Soil aeration from worms and bacteria, (micro-organisms) and the excreta from these fauna form the essential link between mineral reserves conversion to root availability and plant growth. The cycles that permit nutrients to flow from soil to plant are all interdependent, and they work only with the help of the living organisms that constitute the soil community.

Organic soil management enables soil organisms to maintain ecological equilibrium, providing humus, nutrient excretions and root oxygenation; conventional (non-organic) soil management merely substitutes a simplified chemical system to provide nutrients to plants. Humus has the ability to hold toxins, to prevent plants taking up more nutrients than they need at any time, to hold nutrients long term releasing them later on when required and preventing leaching. It acts as a natural buffer preventing extreme PH swings that would inhibit soil nutrients from entering the plant.

The minerals in the humus are present in such a state that they are readily available to the plants as nutrients and well above any level that plants usually get in soil. Hence the plant growth is

stimulated. Worm casts contain up to 45% more humus than is found in the top six inches of the best top soil. Aerobic bacteria break down humic and manure components, killing pathogens in the process.

By comparison, chemical additives kill essential bacteria and other fauna such as earthworms, clogging the soil and providing an all-chemical-mineral supplement to the plants. As balancing humus is replaced with these unnatural substances, the plant roots are often burned by the chemicals introduced and of course more chemicals have to be added to maintain PH balance, etc.

Most of the bacteria found in soil, water, and air are eubacteria. The lacto-bacillus spores delivered in China-Link’s ecoPRODUCTS generate non-mutating aerobic eubacteria, (we call them ecoSPOROUS), that enhance the breakdown of fecal matter and urine, by-producing simple nutrients and crowding out or killing off anaerobic competitors and pathogenic microbes. They remain active in the soil, rendering the manure into humus, rich in nutrients.

Soil devoid of humus is devoid of life, becoming dust that erodes readily with no biological retainers to hold it together. The erosion of top soils leaves only clay tilth as an option and of course, much more chemical fertilizer is needed to stimulate plant activity.

Bio-remediation is not simply a matter of applying manure on soil and allowing it to rot down to reintroduce humus. Much of the fecal/urine material dumped on soil decomposes anaerobically, at usually higher temperatures than are required for healthy aerobic fauna to proliferate. The result is the stinking aromatic lift from the decaying mess that we are all too familiar with. Ammonia lift takes away the nitrogen that aerobic bacteria would convert into fixed nitrogen in the soil. Added to the methane and carbon dioxide that is emitted by the process, the resultant air pollution with greenhouse gases is considerable.

Organic agriculture is the only way to induce sustainability. However, the return of a chemically ruined dust bowl or an anaerobic manure swamp to a condition of healthy infrastructure, generates many problems. All are site-specific. Analysis of prevailing and historical conditions, including aquifers, soil structure, plant species (both indigenous and desired), local fauna, crop diseases, local crop pests, wind and rainfall, has to be conducted and a remediation plan created.

Page 11

With the plan in place it will take time, sometimes several years, to re-invigorate a dead or decaying growing area. The best methods are not drastic methods. Here are some

simple measures that will convert the soil over time, without having to forgo harvesting in the interim:

Do not spread ‘raw’ manure. Pre-digest the manure into bio-fertilizer**.

Aerate the soil, mechanically and with local (indigenous) earthworms.

Drain-off standing water into an imperviously lined pond and treat the water with appropriate ecoMIX, (http://www.canlinktechnologies.ca/China-Link/Manure/Manure.htmto go to our site).

Till the bio-fertilizer into the soil, adding necessary soil makeup ingredients as defined in your plan, (peat, sand, zeolite, pumice, etc.)

Rotate the type of crop grown.

China-Link has expert advice available.

ecoTERRA stands ready to create and implement remediation plans.

** by definition, bio-fertilizer made from the excrement and urine of pigs, cattle and birds that have been fed on GMO foods, or animal by-products, or have been inoculated with growth hormones, or doused in flea killers and other pesticides, or have been fed a diet of plants grown with and “protected by” chemicals cannot be defined as organic. However, with a few years of exclusion of these problem ingredients in the food chain and in animal husbandry, it should be possible to “strain out” the residual toxins.

Water course and water table pollution

Manure spreading has become a traditional, accepted, yet undesirable practice that we can no longer afford. Livestock and bird farming communities now employ methods

of production that far exceed the natural sustainibility of the land on which the modern industrialized farm sits. Farmers artificially increase output with enhanced feed, steroids, growth hormones and chemical “safeguards” - harsh disinfectants, pesticides and barns designed to allow run off of feces and urine to manure holding pits.

This results in piles of manure and lagoons of the liquid effluent that is spread and pumped on to local arable or animal feed growing fields. Farms and livestock feedlots, bird production barns and dairies all contribute more than the adjacent land can bear, resulting in groundwater seepage of high nitrate pollutants, with the leachate culminating in the ditches and irrigation/drainage systems that service the farmland, (see below).

Additionally the practice of spraying uncured manure under the guise of “fertilizer” exacerbates the situation, producing floating clumps of excrement that poison the arterial watercourses leading to major river systems. Worse, these toxin-laden streams are the spawning and primary habitat waters of anadromous and landlocked fish, ruining another human food source with chemicals and heavy metals, released from the leachate.

Page 14: When a pollution issue occurs, clients contact ecoTECH ......When a pollution issue occurs, clients contact ecoTECH Waste Management Systems (1991) Inc. ecoTECH then prescribes a solution

Page 12

An example of this is the current distressed state of the Fraser River in British Columbia. The mighty Fraser is being turned into a polluted mire, choking to the extent not seen since the sewage and effluent killed the River Thames

in England for eight hundred years, until it was finally cleaned and protected from dangerous discharges only twenty years ago. Awareness and concerted efforts to treat and prevent sewage, industrial, fecal and agricultural discharge, plus major investments in water treatment plants to safeguard London’s water resulted in the first recorded salmon spawning in the Thames in six centuries. It can be done.

ecoTERRA has devised methods to remove the floating matter in flowing ditches, catching it at gates and discharge weirs, using the naturally derived macromolecule flocculent from China-Link strategically. The method is described on the next page. China-Link’s small farm/ranch manure to viable fertilizer is also described later in this document.

Further, ecoTECH has derived methods for the commercial production of its bio-fertilizer, “ecoGROW” and has determined markets and methods for placements.

Watercourse Pollution

Page 15: When a pollution issue occurs, clients contact ecoTECH ......When a pollution issue occurs, clients contact ecoTECH Waste Management Systems (1991) Inc. ecoTECH then prescribes a solution

Page 13

To remove the effluent from the flowing ditches and streams, we look for a flow constriction, such as the gate weir shown above, and add the ecoMIX 7001 organic flocculent agent

50 to 100 metres upstream, depending on flow volumes and current speed. The ecoMIX uses ionic flocculation, combining with the fecal matter to form macromolecule agglomerates that sink to the floor of the watercourse as a highly mobile (slippery) gelatin strata that moves with the current to pile at the barrier, whilst the cleansed stream water flows over the dam.

We place our high throughput suction pump inlet pipe at the base of the barrier to evacuate the accumulating sludge into a staging pond for further treatment, or disposal, the staging pond is in two sections. The ecoTECH pump is a suction pump for sludge and an air pump for the pond, which is “seeded” with ecoSPOROUS, our highly active aerobic lacto-bacillus. ecoSPOROUS populations expand expotentially until food sources, (fecal matter, mosquito eggs, etc) are consumed in balance with their life cycles. Pathogens are consumed or crowded out in the presence of oxygenated water, hence the air pump use.

Page 15

The sludge is pumped into a staging pond that is dug close to each point of pickup (pump out). This is lined with an impervious membrane such as the specialty certified products from

Environmental Protection Inc. (www.geomembrane.com) ,or moulded rigid pond liners. The water and sludge separation system is divided into two main sections. The pond system is constructed with the excavated soil from the lower level being formed into a burm so that an above ground level is created. An upper air-sparged, 3 zone pond with microbe-enriched components (ecoSPOROUS & ecoFRESH added) is built. The Upper pool cascades into the lower pool, via the restricted throat between the two main pools. The system looks like a figure eight (8) from above. We prefer to make these these installations permanent, with moulded pond liners and concrete structure, per the example shown on the opposite page.

The design calls for a six stage (or 6 contiguous zones) structure. Effluent pumped from the stream sludge trap is partially devoured by aerobic microbes in the first zone. The active sludge passes through a baffle, to arrest the turbidity injected by the air sparge. The second zone of the upper pool is a calming zone, which allows the digestion to continue, so that the macromolecular floccules can be broken down, The stratification of the different densities of the mixture begins to occur, with the partial separation allowing the upper, less viscous components to flow accross the throat of the restrictor bridge.

The restriction creates a Benouli Effect, propelling the light fractions across the tertiary zone, dropping out particulate and tightly aggolerated components to sink to the sludge sump at the base of zone 3. At this stage, entrained particulate and the remaining agglomerates are odourless active fertilizer components. We can pump the treated sludge directly into liquid fertilizer tanks. It can form part of a balanced fertilizer, sprayed or mixed with zeolite as a slow-release granular material with locked-in nutrients available on demand by plants, but fixed in the soil with no leachate.

The lower pool is a settling pond. The now-treated effluent is allowed to cascade into the pond to be stratified during the settling process. at the entrance of the second pool is a drop-in custom designed ecoTECH grate.

If potable or guaranteed animal drinking water is required, the grate is filled with flow-through zeolite and activated carbon trays ( from ecoTECH Alberta *). These effective filtration agents trap and retain any remaining particulate. Optionally, for commercial husbandry operations, ecoTECH hour-glass back-flushing filter units can be employed. The clean water from the trays, or in commercial applications, via the filters, can be pumped to the river or to drinking troughs. The aerobic activity keeps the sludge separation and treatment system and piping ice-free in winter, due to the exothermic activity of the microbes.

This system is scalable, with variances to accomodate local conditions and remediation site considerations. It can be used to purge and enhance water contaminated by sewage, such as the example shown next, where ecoTERRA designed a system to cleanse a polluted reservoir lake in Venezuela at the turn of this century. The sewage polluted the drinking water reservoir for 1.5 million people. The plan adopted by HidroCentrale, utilized local resources.

Water Pollution Effluent Treatment

*ecoTECH Alberta has an ongoing supply of activated filtration carbon derived from scrap tyres (tires). This inexpensive form of filtration carbon gives all of the features of medicinal-quality carbon, but is economically available in bulk. We mix this with natural zeolite to give the ultimate adsorbtion water

cleaner. In watercourse cleansing situations, the resultant active mixture is recycled for use when it is replaced at 3 month intervals. The fine particulate, zeolite and carbon mixture is enhanced with bone char hydroxyl apatite, dried and inoculated with ecoSPOROUS spores, to be used for replenishing soils with migrant heavy metal leachate, in order to “fix” the metals and prevent transfer of the toxins to the water table via migration .

Reservoir Pollution: Case Report & DesignBackground

Lake Valencia is located just to the east of Valencia City. The Valencia City water reservoir (Embalse de Cachinche) is located 100 km southwest of the city. Valencia’s city

population is approximately 1 million. The population has increased exponentially in the past 30 years. Its growth entailed the installation of a major sewage lagoon system. It is now a successful agricultural, orchard and horticultural region.

Historically the Paou River flowed into the present reservoir 100km south of the city. During the 1940’s and 1950’s the Paou River was closed by a dam constructed to divert water into Lake Valencia, for a variety of reasons which may have included com-pensation for increased evaporation or increased irrigation with-drawals for fruit growing and agricultural use. In 1999, the river was restored to its old course. The city sewage lagoon farm had been built on a low area of the old water course. When the river re-diverted, it flooded the sewage lagoon area, moving hundreds of thousand of tons of effluent with it to the reservoir.

When Hidro Centrale discovered the extent and severity of the drinking water contamination problem, they took steps to remediate the water quality. At a narrowing of the river above the reservoir, on consultants’ advice, they began dumping large quantities of Aluminium Sulphate to remediate the river inlet water to the Reservoir. This acted as an effective, but damaging flocculent.

The large quantities of Aluminium Sulphate increased the pH of the lake to 9.2 (very basic). This high pH contributed to creating an anaerobic environment in the reservoir below three metres depth, killing all the life from three metres down to the bottom, (15 metres below), depositing gaseous sludge on the bottom. Only the top three metres were aerated and contain fish and plant life.

The drinking water take off was via an old water tower with fixed grates which allowed the polluted water to enter the 1.5 metre and 1 metre city feed pipes from the reservoir. Halfway to the City is the water treatment facility, which used chlorine to sterilize the water, but the concentration of chlorine necessary to make the water safe was impracticable, so source remedies were needed, urgently.

At the shallows of the River Paou inlet, the sludge is gathered for analysis. This sludge covered the river and lake bottom.

Water pollution at the tower inlet is evident in the close up above, but this is only the surface, where air and sun allowed fish to survive. The tower had inlet gates that were

blow the aerobic region. Fifteen metres below, the lake bottom was covered with a thick, choking sludge. The local people fished the lake for food, and drank the water. No spawning was posible, so the remaing fish predated on each otherr, becoming fewer in number. The fish had eye worms and carcinogenic lumps. (see photo)

The soil of the surrounding hills is sandy alluvial, with a large fissure close to the dam, which has a small hydro-electric plant. We could convert one of the turbines into a high head pump,

capable of dragging the accumulating sludge from the base of the dam to the top of an adjacent eroded hill, where the highly alkaline sludge could be tilled in as a binder to form topsoil for the cultivation of a crop of Kanaf. The fissure also formed a natural recepticle for the pumped-out sludge, which could be used as fill, mixed with rocks and stones.

A local fisherman shows us the problems with his catch. This fish is in very poor con-dition, with scale losses and eye worm.

Page 18

Using Aluminium Sulphate (aluminum sulfate) as a flocculant had served its intended purpose of agglomerating suspended fecal and chemical contaminants in the water flow, but the

resulting bed of bound media has accumulated delta – style at the river outflows, with top fines making the inevitable traverse of the reservoir towards the dam and city water supply outlets.

There was no visible “small” fauna in these inlets and no bed-rooted water plants were alive. Small mangroves that grow in the water courses upstream of the delta were dead. The only living non-domesticated riparian creatures spotted during our first visit, which included a boat tour of all of the regions of the lake, were one iguana and several fish eagles.

The Remediation Plan:

1] We planned to use the natural flow of the lake to our advantage, but first it was essential to use a small dredge to remove the delta mud at the river mouths. This was to remove much of the pollution at source.

2] We replaced the use of chemical flocculent being dumped at the river narrows with natural zeolite (clynocliptonite). This will eventually travel to the dam. It is light and served to encapsulated the pollutants via its cationic exchange action. As zeolite filters are used for water purification, they add no chemical components as occurs with the hydrolytic action of Aluminium Sulphate.

3] We decided to utilize surplus equipment at the generating station and couple one pelton wheel directly to a wide mouth influent pump, set at the base of the dam in the silt wedge. The pump draws silt and lifts it to the crest of a nearby hill for surface spreading on the hillside, once filling the fissure is complete. Tilled into the soil, the mix provides fertilizer for a non-food crop, such as kenaf for paper pulp. Initially, the dredged delta silt was to be trucked to the fissure to be mixed with rocks and gravel.

4] As the water and its borne particulate are drawn at low level to the dam corner away from the water tower, the pump induced a bottom strata, low flow current to drag the flocculant and then the zeolites across the lake bottom and away from the drinking water inlet. This is achieved by placement of additional circulating pumps and air sparging, bringing the nozzles lower as time progesses and aerating the anaerobic strata progressively lower.

The Water Supply Solution:

Obviously, the water supply had to be maintained, so we resolved to remove water only from the very surface of the water, where fairly clean, oxygenated and sun-affected water

and rainfall could be drawn off without the heavy pollutants found in the water drawn in from the tower’s lower grates.

Based on ecoTECH’s anadromous fish protection device, “the Pisces”, a floating water skimmer was designed to take water only from the top strata. Its positioning was to be anchored close to the water tower and pipe-coupled to the city water feed arteries, via a cascade water filtration system built on the slope on the lower lake side of the dam. The concrete footings for the filtration system doubled as buttress re-inforcements adjacent to the fissure, preventing further soil movements. With the fissure filled in with alkaline sludge and rocks, this should be a long lasting fix.

5] Whilst keeping the water tower in place for emergency use, its function is replaced with the installation of an ecoTECH floating water skimmer. The skimmer is free to move vertically with water levels, on a telescopic tubular base. This ensures that only water from the surface to one metre depth is taken into a three metre diameter inlet. The Skimmer, (pictured opposite) is moored on the open lake side of the water tower, to eliminate current and mixing effects with the silt movement operations that are confined to the opposite side of the dam bay.

Influent passes through a debris screen and we deploy a bubble curtain fish deterrent baffle around the unit. This was first suggested by Coast River’s Consultants Dr. John Millar, who has successfully utilized the technique to prevent fish encroachment on river structures. The influent is tapped into the existing 60" and 24" pipes leading to the remote water treatment facility and on to Valencia. The system utilizes an x-form junction, with the fourth leg leading to a small test facility, to be installed on site.

ecoFRESH SPRAY REMEDIANTNatural Pathogen-kill Spray Deodorizer

ecoFRESH contains aerobic micro-organisms, facultative micro-organisms and yeast bacteria. The microbiological bacillus are collectively called ecoSPOROUS, but in essence form a symbiotic triad of predators to anaerobic bacteria and pathogens.

This mix includes our original B. Laterosporus BOD lacto-bacillus that was so successful over the past two decades for manure risk and odour mitigation, but with

the addition of two separately targeted synergetic, co-operative organisms to increase the potency and accelerated manure decomposition with the resultant generation of plant micronutrients.ecoFRESH is shipped as concentrated liquid, from China-Link’s Hong Kong laboratories.

ecoFRESH is a potent eradicator of mosquito and other water lain fly eggs. By devouring the eggs, the natural microbial predators keep the numbers of infection carriers down, without chemical pesticides.

Manure, urine and foul water sprayed with ecoFRESH immediately loses it’s offensive smell!

The image at the top of the page is of a cascade leachate settling pond system installed in the new city of Anji, Zhejiang Province,

PRC. The system employs air sparging of contaminated (solvent entrained) groundwater leachate from the Anji garbage landfill, which employs no refuse or chemical dump procedures. The air is used in an effort to purge volatile hydrocarbons (and unfortunately, due to the nature of the unpoliced dumping practices), volatile organic compounds and the resultant treated effluent is gravity fed into the ponds for settling out particulate, prior to the water being pumped to the local sewage treatment plant for eventual discharge into the river system. This solves very few of the problems with the landfill.

The image to the left shows ecoFRESH being sprayed to neutralize odours and mosquito gestation at a Hue, Vietnam, pig farm.

Water Pollution Effluent Treatment

Waterborne contaminants pose many problems of treatment, especially if a natural cleanser is utilized. Some chemical solvents in water set up complex organo-molecules if

treated with natural sprays or flocculents, so ecoTERRA staff are always very careful before agreeing to commence a water remediation project.

Also, the quality of the finished product and the disposition of the gleaned matter removed from water is of paramount concern to us. ecoTERRA utilizes state-of-the-art techniques and keeps current on the latest water and pollutant science data wherever possible. The target is living water, as natural and as mineral and oxygen rich as found bubbling through an alpine glacial stream, not just pure H2O.

Water in its purest chemical form, as most molecular seive pundits would have us believe that we and all fauna must have, is the perfect solvent for the natural body electrolyte components. If only pure water is ingested, these minerals get flushed through without replacement.

Also, in Austria, long before the days when Viktor Schauberger gifted the world with previously unknown analyses of what constitutes healthy drinking water, the people there described “Well Death”, the phenomenom experienced when drinking water from artesian wells at the well head, before it had time to adsorb adequate oxygen. The water would enter the body at 40 Celcius (390 Fahrenheit), and immediately adsorb air from the lungs. It only happened when water from the depths had been swallowed copiously to quench a large thirst, and the water had not been allowed to bubble around the well.

Accordingly we try to achieve mineralized, aerated, living water that we call “Water Plus” as our remediation result. It is not always possible. Some of the more pervasive chemicals that are present in today’s water are extremely diificult to remove. Some are good for one gender, (e.g. Estrogen, found in many plastics) but are not good for the other. In fact they are naturally occuring in our bodies, but the concentrations change when the balance changes becaus of what we eat and drink.

This also applies to our growing awareness and identification of carcinogens in water. Our ecotoxicogist expert is our guide and concience in the microbiology sector, so all projects finishing systems are tested, vetted and analysed by independent audit.

ecoTERRA cannot change the pervasive chemical situation, but we can take all the data available into consideration, to eradicate danger before starting a project and we do that to the best of our evolving ability.

China-Link’s natural remediation products are a describes briefly below, as is ecoTECH Alberta’s chemical de-agglomerator, now known as “eco58”, described on the next page.

Making Natural Fertilizers

China-Link Technology’s products are designed to allow composting of manures and the creation of bio-fertilizers with the simplest of equipment, making

graduation to commercial, or large scale production a matter of scaling and mechanization.

There are large piles of manure all over the country and around the world. The ecoMIX range of fertilizer catylists is designed so that a small scale operator, from the third world to our so-called sophisticated, pollution conscious society, can turn a pile of rotting, stinking, greenhouse-gas-emitting excrement into an odourless, pathogen-free soil enhancement. It can be done with an old cement mixer and an air pump/compressor, or with the state of the art ecoTECH fully enclosed composting cell, which can handle batches of 250 cubic metres per cell charge.

For small scale composting you need to add the zeolite and ecoSPOROUS based ecoMIX in the prescribed ratios to a mixer load of manure and tumble it for 15 minutes per charge. Then you pile the manure on top of a serpentine, punctured air hose, cover it from direct sunlight, turning on the air pump every couple of days for a month....and Voila! Safe, clean, odourless fertilizer. While you are waiting to commence the exercise, (before treatment) a quick spray over the manure pile with ecoFRESH will stop the smell and deter flies, but that is not a permanent solution.

The Recipe for Success

Overleaf is a general analysis table of the components and anticipated plant nutrient value of various types of animal manures. They vary

in potency and with additives like fish droppings and guano many kinds of custom soil additive can be created.

It is all a matter of soil needs and availability of components. However, after years of testing and experimentation the ecoTECH team has come up with one certain fact. Too much of a good thing will burn the plants. Accordingly, the emphasis

has been on timed-release creations and the best naturally occurring (volcanic) component we have

found is a type of Zeolite found in many parts of the world. China link can currently source this material

in Canada, China, Mexico and Russia at economical prices.

There are excellent markets for bio-fertilizers and it is surprizing how microcosmic and localized they become. In British Columbia, the Frazer Valley produces so much manure that is is creating an ongoing health hazard to the region, Manure and biomass residues are not only a smelly embarassment, but a respiratory and toxic danger. Just accross one mountain range, in the Okanagan, the rain-shadow desert cries out for humus to arrest soil erosion. In Delta, British Columbia, over a hundred years of exploiting the same patches of soil for potatoes, goading each successive crop with chemical additives has created a played out dust bowl. Local greehouses provide waste biomass residues to plough in, but there is not enough to go around.

Easily Identified Market Targets

The previous two examples indicate the potential of marketing reasonably local natural fertilizers by analysing conditions and needs. The old saying that “one man’s meat is another man’s

poison” can also mean “one person’s poison is another’s salvation”, if that “poison” is manure. In the Alberta Badlands they have feast and famine, too. Huge feed lots for cattle and barren areas, plus a need for soil make-up after oil exploitation.

What is missing? The missing link is a facility or facilities in each region, making bio-fertilizers from the waste for sale to those that have need for natural fertilizers or humic composts. This simple equation has been overshadowed by the drive of the chemical companies to push chemical products, “easy to buy, easy to apply”,on to the consumer. The ecoTECH recipe can deliver easy to buy, easy to apply ALL NATURAL fertilizers, packaged and distributed, just like the chemicals, but with naturally sourced ingredients that include the spores of our soil enhancing lactobacillus to enliven the soil and remove pathogens.

ecoTERRA plans to build the first pilot plant at the turkey farm pictured above. It will be small, but will prove the profitability and suitability of our products.

The Company is looking to finance this by a limited offering of convertible debentures.

Blending and Commercial Production

We call the fertilizer products by the trade name ecoGROW. It of course has many blends, each with its own variance of ingredients. It is attractively packed an most types are

granular. We also produce surface mulch from the shredded biomass fermented by the same method as the granular material and sold in bulk. The shreded mulch is intended for traditional mulching and for soil make up at remediation sites, or where erosion dusts need humic make up as in the Delta example.

To make the basic granular fertilizer, we use ecoTECH Composting Cells, with accelerated batch bio-degradation of the manure with thermostatically contolled water and air injection systems. These cells hold up to 300 tonnes of wet medium, which is stirred, agitated, aeriated and recirculated constantly, providing the optimum environment for microbial oxidation.

In 72 hours, a thick soup is produced. It has no sour smell and is mixed in a more powerful mixing action in the cell with an equal weight of zeolite granules which absorb the moisture and adsorb the bio-nutrients. The resulting semi dry mix is strirred in the cell for 24 hours, by which time it is very dry. With very wet batches, we simply add more zeolite.

The finished fertilizer, which is produced in less than a quarter of the time that our previously described farm method takes, is bagged in paper sacks as in the image shown left.

During the bagging or bulk preparation processes, the finished fertilizer is inoculated with ecoSPOROUS spores, to provide additional soil enhancement for the grower, gardener or soil remediation contractor clients. With its all-natural nutrient ingredients, we expect ready acceptance, although years will pass before the whole program can be accepted as organic

Page 26

The Science of Our Bio-fertilizer Systems

The correct type of zeolite application to soils, composts and growing mediums may be expected to do the following:

● Act as a slow release mechanism of potassium and ammonium in soil system

● Reduce ammonium toxicity by preventing root “burning”

● Improve the retention of ammonium, thus reducing the loss of nitrogen contained in fertilizers. Such losses are the result of leaching and subsequent runoff caused by heavy rainfall or excessive irrigation.

Zeolites properly applied to soils not only control high nitrogen levels but also can have a significant impact upon reducing water pollution caused by field run-off. High nitrogen levels in river water reduce the water’s ability to adsorb oxygen. Adequate oxygen levels are imperative to fish and aquatic life. Regulatory agencies are concerned about the increasing levels of undesirable pollutants in water and the financial resources of companies and municipalities that have to invest in equipment required to achieve increasingly more stringent standards.

Chemical effluents from various chemical waste dumps are often sources of water pollution where zeolites can be of benefit by sequestering leachable undesirable substances, preventing their migration and poisonous leacheates.

Understanding the Components

Not all manures and biomass are created equal. Nutrient capacity varies with the type of manure incorporated in the fertilizer “soup”, so blending and balancing are critical skills of the process, which we have studied so that is now more science than art. Bird feces, up to pigeon having the most valuable contributary characteristics, vary considerably as the following example indicates:

Zeolites: ION EXCHANGEWhy we incorporate it in fertilizers and remediation systems

Clinoptilolite’s highly selective cation exchange capacity makes zeolites especially beneficial in controlling specific cationic levels in water systems, agriculture and many other areas.

Heavy metal ion uptake capabilities of Clinoptilolite are superior to those of the synthetic zeolites 3A, 4A, 5A and equivalent to 13X for the removal of Cu+2, Pb+2, and Zn+2 from solution. Zeolite is qualified for radioactive waste treatment for the removal of both Sr90 and Ce137.

As an example of selective cation removal, radioactive strontium can be removed from nuclear effluents by passing it through a zeolite filtration column. The efficiency of strontium removal is dependent upon many factors, including the relative concentrations of other competing cations in the effluent. . Sewage breaks down into ammonium. This cation can be removed from secondarily treated waste water in much the same way as is strontium. ecoTECH’s product is a high crystallinity clinoptilolite also suitable for this application.

When fish feed, their normal biological processes quickly contaminate the water in which they live with ammonium. Natural zeolites can be used to ensure removal of ammonium in fish farms, fish aquaria, and fish transport.

Crop growers often use an ammonium based fertilizer to supply nitrogen as an essential nutrient. Too high a concentration ammonium supplied to emerging crops (or mushrooms) can be toxic and can lead to “burning” of the root systems. This means that fertilizer levels have to be rigorously controlled, often requiring successive application of plant nutrients.

Ideally, a one time treatment with an ammonium based fertilizer without root “burning” would be more cost effective than the extra labour and time involved for several applications.

Proper use of natural zeolites helps solve this problem. The Clinoptilolite product from ecoTECH has proven to be very useful in these applications. Now available from China, Mexico, or Canada, the zeolite type used in our fertilizers can be economically as well as scientifically balanced by market awareness.

Page 27

Commercial Bio-fertilizer Systems

Why Zeolite? GAS ADSORPTION

The ability of activated zeolites to adsorb many gases on a selective basis is in part determined by the size of the channels ranging from 2.5 to 4.3A in diameter (according to zeolite

type). Specific channel size enables zeolites to act as molecular gas sieves and selectively adsorb such gases as ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, water vapour, oxygen, nitrogen, formaldehyde, and others.

ecoTECH’s Clinoptilolite has about 47% void space and a surface area about 500 square meters per gram! This means the rate of both sorption and ion exchange are higher than in any other natural product.

The ability of zeolites to adsorb certain gases readily lends them to odor control applications. Public toilets, horse stables, chicken houses, and feed lots all release offensive ammonia fumes causing distress to the animals as well as human beings. These problems can be arrested by the application of zeolite products. ecoMIX granules for park outhouses work without harsh chemicals, destroying anaerobic bacteria and adsorbing gases including ammonia.

Homeowners with pets often have pet litter trays which cause to offensive odours. ecoTECH Zeolite + ecoFRESH placed in the litter tray with the normal pet litter, can eliminate these odours by effectively adsorbing ammonia and volatile organic compounds. The potential use of zeolites in many industries for select removal of gases from composite gaseous mixtures is seemingly endless.

WATER ADSORPTION/DESORPTION

Natural zeolites possess a high affinity for water and have the capability of adsorbing and desorbing it without damage to the crystal structure. This property makes them useful in composts as well as other unique commercial systems, such as in heat storage. In many industrial and commercial applications, zeolites have been found highly effective in controlling moisture levels particularly in high humidity ranges where other carrier reservoirs are less effective.

The capability to adsorb/desorb water without change in matrix, coupled with a high heat of adsorption, allows natural zeolites to effectively and efficiently store heat energy for later use

The photo is of an air blower system in a covered composting shed. The Operator uses ecoMIX, with air hoses under pig manure.

A problem of many alternative heat energy systems utilizing non-zeolite heat storage media has been low efficiency and high cost. The advantage of this feature in our fertilizer

production is balanced heat during the last phase of aerobic microbial activity.

Natural zeolites provide a low cost, efficient media for heat storage (to include storage of waste and/or off-peak heat energy) and solar refrigeration applications. This feature allows a compost to retain a stable heat of decomposition, without chilling or overheating to create dessicated and inert hot spots, which is why it features in our mushroom compost recipe. Some mushroom growers in British Columbia are reporting up to 42% decline in crop yield, which they claim is due to the decline in the nutrient content of available growing media.

The ecoTECH mushroom compost production cell was designed to accommodate all of these features with unparalleled blending of the ingedients. An array of these cells is the primary “soup” production system for the ecoTECH Fertilizer Production System, before the zeolite is mixed in.

The Science of Our Bio-fertilizer Systems

Zeolites in Soil Remediation

Fertile soils which have been subjected to harsh treatment by industry, excessive destructive farming practices and sometime through natural causes often have lost their ability to support healthy vegetation. In many cases, simply applying a complete complement of nutrients still does not revive sustainable fertility. The problem is obviously more complex than simply a loss of nutrients.

Theories advanced to explain the loss of sustainable fertility include depletion of organic matter, rapid leaching and removal of nutrients through uncontrollable drainage or run off, unmoderated nitrification of NH3 and other N sources, lack of water retention and insufficient aeration, porosity or drainage. In particular, where soils have been exposed to petroleum products, even after remediation attempts, residual oil coatings may have rendered the sand grains hydrophobic and without any cation exchange capacity. It becomes apparent then, that soil remediation must improve the capacity for retaining moisture and storing nutrients and organics, as well as providing a platform for microbiological activity and increasing exchange and interaction of nutrients.

Zeolites are used extensively in many parts of the world to improve poor quality soils. By using Clinoptilolite as a soil conditioner, many crops of grasses, cereals, vegetables and fruits have demonstrated significantly improved yields of up to 63%.

Zeolite Benefits: Substantial evidence now exists to show that adding zeolites to soil enhances fertility. The unique character of these natural minerals provides many interrelated attributes with multiple benefits imparted by their presence.

Their open structure of cavities and channels gives them high porosity, surface area and a cation exchange capacity (CEC) which is 100 times greater than sand. Unlike organic amendments, zeolites are natural minerals which do not break down through biodegradation and provide a permanent remediation solution. When incorporated into soils they interact with nutrients at the plants rhizosphere where chemical exchange, molecular sieving, reactive surface area and porous crystal structure assist in providing an environment for slow controlled nutrient release and availability. Interaction with other soil minerals help improve soil fertility, an improved platform for microbial activity and an increased supply of plant available water.

Zeolites possess certain characteristics that mitigate the effects of pH imbalance, alkalis and toxic contaminants by absorbing and immobilizing these elements.

Features of our Zeolite Additive

• Controls release of and moderates interaction between nutrients.

• Buffers the soil and moderates the pH level.• Exchanges and chemically suppresses the impact of alkalis in

soil.• Chemically suppresses and moderates microbial nitrification

rate to provide long term slow release instead of loss of highly soluble nitrates via leaching.

• Holds N in the rhizosphere, readily available for plants rather than loss as NH3 to atmosphere or N03 to ground or surface water.

• Retains K, Ca, Mg as well as other micro nutrients for plant utilization.

• Improves fertilizer retention, nutrient up-take and utilization efficiency.

• Absorbs contaminants and reduces toxicity of hydrocarbons, sterilants and heavy metals.

• Retains moisture in pores and chambers thus readily available for plant use.

• Improves soil texture and moderates drainage.• Aerates the soil through porosity of the zeolite.• Enhances environment for ecosporous BOD soil additive.

Application Recommendations: Studies into turf grasses and soil remediation have shown that a 3% to 20% incorporation rate into the top 6” of soil provides a permanent increase in ion exchange capacity and soil enhancement. Immediate improved growth rates of 26-60% and increased root mass have been observed. Turf grass applications experience reduced requirement for irrigation and fertilizer application as well as healthier turf, fewer dry spots and less root rot. Rotospiking 3-10% into sites affected by saline or acidic conditions, residual oilfield hydrocarbons or soil sterilants improve germination and sustained growth of grasses and cereals.

The persistent toxicity of soil sterilants, many of which are still showing their effectiveness years after application, has resulted in many sites where remediation has been particularly difficult. Often the only solution is to remove the contaminated material to a landfill and replace it with clean top soil. Reclamation of the soil by a 20-25% incorporation of zeolite into the top 6 inches (150 mm) of soil has produced some remarkable results.

Patent Number 5455028

Our compost fertilizer additive is an organic soil inoculant containing a unique and beneficial soil micro-organism, ecosporus BOD strain. This friendly non-toxic micro-organism has been present in its natural state for many millennia. An agriculturist, curious about the vigorous and healthy plants he discovered in an Iceland farming community, brought soil samples back to the states for analysis. Laboratory tests identified ecosporus BOD as the active bacillus. It has been selectively cultured to perform its distinctive role for soil enhancement. Please note that ecosporus BOD is not a result of bio-engineering. Unlike synthetic chemicals, ecosporus BOD will neither damage nor injure the soil nor negatively impact the environment.

The role of ecosporus BOD friendly bacteria

The living part of soil is just as critical to plant growth as the physical soil structures. Soil microorganisms are the essential link between mineral reserves and plant growth. The cycles that permit nutrients to flow from soil to plant are all interdependent, and they work only with the help of the living organisms that constitute the soil community. Bacteria affect three basic soil processes that are vital to higher plant and crop nitrification, sulfur oxidation, and nitrogen fixation. Organic soil management aims at helping soil organisms maintain fertility; conventional (non-organic) soil management merely substitutes a simplified chemical system to provide nutrients to plants. Once a healthy soil ecosystem is disrupted by the excessive use of soluble synthetic fertilizers, restoration can be a long and costly process. In many cases, the excessive use of energy-intensive petroleum-based fertilizers and pesticides have destroyed the biological fertility of soil, so increasing amounts of these materials are required to sustain crop growth.

How ecosporus BOD strain works to create healthy compost

“ By stabilizing the pH factor at 8.1, ecosporus BOD strain has the ability to maintain the hydrogen ion concentration within the alkaline range. This is accomplished by releasing carbonate and other products.

“ By increasing nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous levels as the pH is stabilized, ammonia nitrogen (odorous - which is normally released into the atmosphere), is withheld and converted to nitrate nitrogen which is readily assimilated by the plants. Potassium and phosphorous become more insoluble in a high alkaline soil, and therefore become “fixed” and are prevented from leaching off.

“ By reducing harmful pathogenic bacteria such as Phizoctonia, Phytophtora, Fusarium and Pythium

Results from our organic compost fertilizer, with zeolites and ecosporus BOD strain.

The continual decomposition of organic residues results in the formation of humus and the release of plant nutrients. The fertility of your soil (its capacity to nurture healthy plants and crops) depends on the health, vitality, and diversity of the organisms that live, grow, reproduce, and die in the soil. Through the activities of soil microbes, the basic raw materials needed by plants and crops are made available at the right time and in the right form and amount. The zeolite creates a time-release mechanism for plants to obtain balanced, pathogen-free nutrients on demand.

ecosporus BOD and safety

ecosporus BOD strain is a friendly non-toxic organic bacteria which is 100% environmentally safe for humans, livestock, wildlife, or pets.

“No precautions need be taken when mixing or applying this product”.

“It will not burn roots, branches, leaves or flowers nor is it harmful to fruits and vegetables”.

ecosporus BOD strain, being a Natural Organic Bacteria, may die under perilous conditions. Some chemicals will kill bacteria. Compatibility test reports are available and testing is available for chemicals not listed. Chlorine can also kill the bacillus but the normal amount found in most city water is acceptable. If unsure, a chlorine test should be done.

Commercial Bio-fertilizer Systems

Our ecoSPOROUS BOD aerobic bacteria begin digesting biomass immediately after the fluid that contains the activated spores is sprayed onto the incoming manure at the site. Allied

with its associates in ecoFRESH, these voracious predators destroy anaerobic (methane and other gases emitting) bacteria. and mosquito eggs. The bacteria remove all the noxious gases, preventing odours as the medium passes through its various stages of processing.

When the biomass/manure makes its stop-over in the buffer storage (Mixing) Pit, more bacteria are added, ready for accelerated decomposition in the aerobic digestor, a 10 metre diameter, 8 metre tall composting cell that we could call a bio-degradation reactor. The cells each contain 150 tonnes of product with a digesting residence time of 3 days. i.e. 6 cells + 1 “overflow” standby cell rotate 300 tonnes of product per day. They can be fully charged to 250 cubic metres, if necessary.

Final mixing and the addition of natural Clinoptilolite (zeolite) in various ratios ensure a fresh smelling, nutrient rich, high humus product. This occurs in a Fertilizer Mixing Cell with twice the

volume of the composters in some (high biomass-low manure: e.g. Mushroom Compost Media) systems, or as a finishing additive in the same cells in manure-only systems. The final product is semi-dry, high moisture retention, slow-release fertilizer enhanced catonically by the zeolite.

In each cell, constant agitation, cycling and aeration occur. Steam is used to pre-clean before each batch, and to offset chills. Optimum temperatures are maintained by a water jacket radiation tube system, in the double walls of the cells.

Bagging, Packaging and Custom Blending

Bulk fertilizers and mulches are sold in 1 tonne capacity tote bags, 500 kg. tote bags and sizes down to 22 kg. in paper bags per the images overleaf. Strained, fully digested soup is sold as liquid spray fertilizer in 45 gallon drums. In some cases, ecoTECH’s sonic micronizer is

used to reduce manures and pre-sterilize them before microbes are added. This usually occurs where other biological waste processing is required in some regions, such a as the processing of fish wastes (offal + frames).

The sono-chemical reactor reduces components to <70 microns, bite size for ecoSPOROUS! In these situations the resultant mix is either used as bulk spray fertilizer delivered in 45 gallon drums or added to zeolite to produce an enhanced version of our ecoGROW granular product. The reactor can also be used to micronize, blend and aerate a variety of natural ingedients to enhance the mixtures, including bone char to produce hydroxyl apatite, and shredded feathers or legume pods for nitrogen input.

Mushroom Media Manufacture

Mushroom composting is a social pariah. The mistakes made in design of mushroom media manufacturing systems have given rise to the general consensus that when

such operations start, local residents will suffer from foul odours, respiratory problems, lower property values and leachate in aquifers. Traditionally an outdoor activity, mushroom media composting has been legislated indoors in most jurisdictions.

However, the indoor processing of the manure and straw bedding that comprises the media is fraught with problems of corrosion of facilities and equipment due to the lifts of ammonia, acids, lignins, complex sugars and noxious, poisonous gases during the processing, unless the most modern methods are employed.

All this is solved by using an array of ecoTECH composting cells and including zeolite to replace some of the gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O). The result is a quickly produced, fully finished and balanced media.

ecoTERRA is able to organize and construct these new generation plants which can turn wastes into local or regional resources. Mushroom compost recipes will vary according to locale and the wastes available, but with the right application of the necessary knowledge, successful systems can be installed as stand alones or as adjuncts to the fertilizer plants.

In 2001, ecoTERRA conducted test grow experiments to determine the correct recipe for successful mushroom media. These pictures show test batches with high volumes of zeolite, which balanced the “burn” problems experienced with “green” media from the problem supplier with the badly designed system also depicted in this document. This has proven to be valuable experience for the Company.

Getting it Wrong

These are pictures of a 2 year old, poorly designed mushroom

composting plant that failed shortly after we visited it in 2002.

You can see the pall of acrid lift gases; sticky, corrosive, asphyxiating blends of complex sugars, acids, ammonia, etc. that cause failure of all the equipment and the building itself.

The plant was so bad that staff risked serious health problems, yet management insisted that they work without respirators.

We learned a lot from this.

The Importance of Good System Design

Horse manure pile with the cloud of gases escaping to atmosphere because the door had corroded and collapsed.

This expensive loader was extremely damaged by corrosion. The building was less than 2 years old. Loaders lasted less than one year. The crane was condemned within a few months.

Getting it Right

Along with experience, ecoTECH has innovative and successful designs in all sectors of waste management, plus thermal and cold process remediation. Some of the

equipment and solutions are shown on this page and in the restof this document. The first waste management design went into service in late 1979. ecoTERRA has garnered significant data and experience in the manure, soil and composting sectors of industry.

Why we replace carbon steel with 3CR12 Steel:

3CR12 is recognized as the original and now the world’s most specified 12% Chromium utility stainless steel. As a low cost stainless steel, 3CR12 is used in a wide range of industries and finished products around the world.

3CR12 conforms to the European grade for the stainless steel, type 1.4003 included in specification EN 10088, which covers stainless steel flat and long products. It is also included in the specification prEN 10028-7 for stainless steels suitable for pressure purposes, which includes minimum specified impact values. Additionally 3CR12 is also certified to ASTM A240 UNS S41003.

3CR12 was developed to provide a superior alternative to coated carbon steels and other materials which have poor corrosive/abrasive resistance. It is also an economical substitute for conventional stainless steel where corrosive conditions do not justify higher alloy contents.

It has been extremely successful in displacing, in a wide variety of applications, coated carbon steel, Cor-ten and aluminium. In every case 3CR12 can demonstrate a realistic performance or economical advantage, often both.

PREMIUM FERTILIZER"Gourmet food for your lawn and garden”

Atlantis Garden Fertilizer contains a mixture of Clinoptilolite (zeolite), seaweed and processed

sea urchin. It is a 100% natural and biodegradable soil amendment augmented by active ecosporous

BOD.The combination of zeolite and the ocean based renewable resources produces an organic fertilizer suitable for use in the establishment and growth of grasses, cereals, vegetables and fruits. Zeolite is a natural alumino-silicate mineral with a highly regular structure of pores and chambers that allows for adsorption, ion exchange, molecular sieving, hydration and dehydration. Zeolite introduces aeration, percolation, nutrient and water retention as well as heavy metal encapsulation. The seaweed and sea urchin provides a source of slow release plant macro and micro nutrients and a high calcium (liming) source.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

• Slow release organic fertilizer supply of micro & macro nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, manganese, zinc, copper and boron.

• High calcium carbonate equivalency (70%) A measure of liming potential.

• Improves water retention, reduces the loss of nutrients through rapid leaching from uncontrolled drainage or run-off.

• Similar soil amendments have been shown to reduce parasitic nematode populations and fungal infections.

Atlantis increases the availability of plant nutrients by chemical and biological activity, including N,S,P,Ca, Mg and Mo. It decreases the solubility of Al and Fe that can be toxic in acid soils. It improves structure, increases root activity and promotes better root distribution and eliminates the need for liming.

Initial blends are based on an NPK rating of

1.5-4-6 on the sea urchin component alone. Seaweed additions will result in significant increases in phosphorus and potassium that help promote root development, disease resistance and increased resilience to environmental stresses such as drought, heat, and cold.

• IMPROVED PLANT & ROOT GROWTH:When our organic fertilizer is part of the growing medium, plants grow stronger and have a lush appearance. It adds not only organic material to the soil but a full spectrum of essential nutrients including trace elements such as iron, manganese, copper, zinc and boron which are required for plant growth.

• REDUCED RATE OF NUTRIENT RELEASE:Compost binds the nutrients in the soil making them available for plants to utilize over a longer period of time. The slow release of nutrients insures plant roots will not burn as can happen when chemical fertilizers are used. Organically derived plant nutrients are slow to leach from the soil making them less likely to contribute to water pollution.

• IMPROVED SOIL POROSITY:Our organic fertilizer improves the microbial activity that is essential for fertile soil. Microorganisms break down the organic materials making the nutrients in these materials available to plants. Compacted soils do not allow the water and air required by soil microorganisms to penetrate below the soil surface. Because compost consists of many different sized particles, it has a porous structure which helps to increase soil porosity.

• IMPROVED WATER HOLDING CAPACITY:The presence of organic matter can soak up water thereby increasing the soil's water holding capacity. This helps the soil absorb water during rain or watering, and hold it for the use of plants between rain or watering.

• IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO WIND & WATER EROSION:Adding organic fertilizer helps prevent wind and water erosion by increasing the availability of water and nutrients to plants resulting in rapid, strong plant growth in areas prone to erosion.

• PLANT DISEASE SUPPRESSION:The presence of beneficial soil organisms in our organic fertilizer can inhibit the incidence of disease causing organisms. In essence, you add some 'good bugs' to compete with the 'bad bugs'.compete with the 'bad bugs'.

•SOIL ENRICHMENT:Provides organic matter and essential nutrients enriching the soil as it slowly decomposes, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers that are prone to leaching. Increased organic matter results in less digging, tilling, and cultivation. It improves the soils texture; making sandy soil more water retentive and clay soil more porous. It helps to create an Ideal environment for earthworms and microorganisms, essential to healthy soil.

• WATER/MOISTURE CONSERVATION:Acts as a sponge to hold water and nutrients close to the soil, blocking the drying effects of sun and wind to reduce evaporation by more than 70%. This encourages healthy plant growth, prevents drying of shallow roots and results in less watering. Our mulch attracts earthworms that tunnel through the soil, providing aeration which allows for improved water absorption.

• WEED CONTROL:Inhibits germination and growth of weeds, effectively eliminating the need for herbicides.

•INSULATION:

Stabilizes soil temperature, keeping root systems cooler in summer and protects plants and shrubs from winter injury. By covering bare soil, our mulch prevents soil compaction and erosion caused by heavy rains and wind.

• APPEARANCE:Improves the visual appeal of your landscaping, garden and flower beds. Rich in appearance, our mulch retains colour with little fading in the sun.

The products contain no heavy metals and are free of pesticides. Using this product contributes to the recycling effort and puts vital nutrients back into the environment, where they play an important role in soil fertilization and conservation.

The Mushroom Batch Formula (per day)

Product InformatIonWhat is ecoGROW Organic Fertilizer

and Fertilizer Mulch?

• ecoGROW Organic Fertlizer is derived from composted biosolids originating from the City waste treatment plant.

•ecoGROW Organic Fertlizer has been produced using nature's recipe book. Just like streams and lakes, natural aeration helps to purify the water, while microorganisms break down the solids. Any liquid is treated and returned to streams and lakes, and the solids are further processed by microorganisms to form stable, organic matter called biosolids. These biosolids are aerobically composted at high heat levels to form a coarse grade of compost. The compost is dried down and then screened, resulting in ecoGROW Fertilizer.

• ecoGROW Organic Fertilizer exceeds all Ministry of Environment standards and it has been exhaustively tested to be safe for use. Research and years of experience have demonstrated this product to be environmentally safe and beneficial. Because only natural bacteria are used at each step of the process, and no chemicals are introduced, we can ensure the finished compost is low in heavy metals and free of pesticides. Using this product contributes to the recycling effort and puts vital nutrients back into the environment, where they play an important role in soil fertilization and conservation.

• ecoGROW Landscape Fertilizer Mulch is the over-fines from our screening process. Like our organic fertilizer, the fertilizer mulch contains all the essential plant nutrients, but with a coarse texture similar to bark mulch.

• ecoGROW Professional Potting and Bedding Soil is an excellent blend of ecoGROW Organic Fertilizer, Superior Peat (tm), and Perlite. Our potting soil is specially formulated to provide a complete supply of nutrients over most of the growing season.
