From Deacon Ed’s Homily...1. Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull
out when in trouble; it is a “steering wheel” that directs us in the right path.
2. Do you know why a car’s windshield is so large and the rearview mirror is so small? Because our past is not as important as our future, so look ahead and move on.
3. Friendship is like a book. It takes a few seconds to burn but it takes years to write.
4. Old friends are like gold. New friends are diamonds. If you get a diamond don’t forget the gold because to hold a diamond you always need a base of gold.
5. O en when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, “relax”. It’s just a bend, not the end.
6. When God solves your problems you have faith in his abili es. When God doesn’t solve your problems he has faith in your abili es.

A Message from Fr. Bob
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
The month of November is always dedicated to remembering and praying for the dead. During
Mass we recite in the Creed, “I believe in the resurrec on of the dead and the life of the world to come.”
As Catholic Chris ans, we believe that death is not the end of everything, but rather a beginning
of a new life, eternal life. Back home, in Uganda, we fi rmly believe that the dead are part of the
living. We have a custom, or tradi on, of burying the dead in our yards or compounds, rather than
in a cemetery.
Here at St. Benedict, we remember and honor our beloved dead throughout the month of
November. The Memorial Table in the back of the church displays precious photos of our loved
ones as a visible reminder to always pray for them. I encourage you to keep all our beloved dead in
your prayers. Eternal rest, grant them O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine on them.
Last Sunday a er the 5pm Mass, we hosted our fi rst-ever Trunk-or-Treat event. I must say that I
was deeply impressed and touched by the hundreds of people of all ages that turned up! It was a
tremendous success! Even though I was feeling very red, I could not resist visi ng each decorated
vehicle. All the people that I met and interacted with were very happy and excited. I even heard
people already talking about bigger plans for their cars next year!
I would like to give special thanks to Heather Mooney and Richard Guerra, as well as the en re
Parish Staff , for taking on the task of coordina ng Trunk-or-Treat and following it through to the
end. Both Heather and Richard assured me that many parishioners and friends would par cipate
and they kept the excitement level brewing around the Parish Offi ce! I would also like to personally
thank Jay Iole and the Knights of Columbus for their assistance with parking during Trunk-or-Treat.
All of you are greatly appreciated.
I look forward to seeing you again next week as we gather to share in the Eucharist once again. I
pray that you enjoy a blessed and frui ul week.
Fr. Bob

TRUNK-or-TREAT RECAP! Trunk-or-Treat was a fantastic success last Sunday night! How
exciting to see so many from our parish family enjoying the evening together. The thought, creativity and time that went into the decorations greatly surpassed our expectations, and
seeing all ages in costumes made the event extra festive.
The attendance exceeded 800 and we had 56 decorated cars …Wow! What incredible numbers for a first-time event.
We hope to see YOU again next year!
As with all events, a huge thank you to the volunteers who pitched-in to help with set-up and event details including Debbie Chavez, Lily Galvan, Eleonora Pollio, Patrick, Lauren and Tim
Mooney, and Ryan Holzwarth. Special thanks to Jay Iole, Paul Spatz and all of the Knights of Columbus who coordinated
parking, and to Carol Engel and Linda Schifano who documented the evening as our official photographers.
None of it would have been possible without each of you!
CONGRATULATIONS to the 2017 Trunk-or-Treat Winners:

From Deacon Ed’s Homily (cont.)7. A blind person asked St. Anthony, “Can there be anything worse than losing eyesight?” He replied, “Yes. Losing your vision.”8. When you pray for others God listens to you and blesses them, and some mes when you are safe and happy remember that someone has prayed for you.9. Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles.
