EMPOWER ME! Girl’s Conference 2015 for 9th & 10th Graders
The STL Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) will host a conference as part of an initiative to start preparing young girls for a college education. Conference focus will include: Identity, Communications/Soft Skills, Financial Literacy & Entrepreneurship, and Healthy Lifestyles. The one-day conference
will be held on June 20th. Applications are due April 15th.

CVPA Poetry Team Competes at VerbQuake

Saint Louis University Summer Transportation Institute
Saint Louis University is offering a free one-week summer camp (July 6-10 and 13-17) for high school students interested in pursuing
a career in transportation, aviation, engineering, science or technology. The camp is a combination of lectures, hand-on

Science Students Start Recycling Program
Ms. Kunde’s Environmental
Science Class has implemented a
recycling program at the school. After
studying the benefits of recycling, students collected, decorated,
and distributed boxes to each
classroom to use for recycling. The class has also committed to taking
out the recycling each week. Keeping CVPA Green!

Portrait of Maya Angelou Available for Purchase to Support CVPA Visual Arts
The Visual Arts department is looking to find a good home for our monumental portrait of the legendary Dr. Maya Angelou. This painting was completed by several art students on the CVPA
Theatre stage during the Black History Performing Arts
Night on February 25, 2015.
The painting is 5 feet wide by 7.5 feet tall, done in six sections.
$200.00 is the minimum price,

Student Board of Directors - Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
During the year on the board , Student Board members meet every other month at the St. louis Fed to discuss issues related to economic and
personal finance, listen to speakers on topics ranging from leadership development to career planning and progression and compete for two
summer internships during the summer of 2016.

CVPA Shines at District Math Competition
In late March, six Eagles gave up their Saturday morning to participate in the 27th annual SLPS
District Math Competition. Alayzha Jordan, Amauri McGuire, Christian Fields, Doneisha Robinson,
Elizabeth Siu, and D’Aundre Fitzpatrick represented CVPA very well, with Elizabeth, Christian, and
Doneisha receiving the top three scores at the school. Congratulations to these CVPA Eagle
Math-letes for a job well done!
Congrats to Ms. McDonald on Art Grant
Congratulations to Ms. McDonald who was recently awarded a grant through ConnectED. Through this grant, the Visual Arts Program at Central has been
granted 30 licenses for Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Premier Elements, and Adobe Presenter. The
President himself is quoted as saying, “Driven by new digital technologies, the future of learning is increasingly interactive, individualized, and full of real-world experiences and information.“ We are
thrilled to be able to keep our photography program current with technology and art mediums. Our already talented students will be able to create innovative and meaningful art and presentations.
