    :Our comments:Our comments

The plot is based upon a ,withheld secret known, only to some of the characters usually about, the play's hero the revelation of which

.provides the turning point of the play

,The play became open ended as if there were.life beyond the last act curtain hos he? - ,he sees women as both child like

helpless creatures detached from reality andinfluential moral forces responsible for thepurity of the world through their influences

    .at home

    15/27

Ibsen's play was notable for exchanging the last

act's unraveling for a discussion. This play focuses on the way that women are

,seen especially in the context of marriage

. , ,and motherhood Torvald in particular has avery clear and narrow definition of a.woman's role

    A Dolls House

    ( ) ,1879 was a social drama

which caused a sensation and toured Europe.and America

The basic form of a Doll's House is from

"then French style piece bien faite"- .which means a well made play

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    18/27

In the play a woman refuses to obey herhusband and esacapes from her perfectmarriage and starts her life in the

    "doll's house".

    - - -At the the turn of the century physicians

,used Nora whose mood changes from joy to,depression in short cycles of time as an

    example of female hysteria

    Exposition

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    20/27

.The exposition of the story is conventional Isben decided that the exposition should be a

conversation between two old friends who had, . .not met in ten years Nora and Mrs Linden

    Climax

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    22/27

The climax comes when Helmer learns.of Nora's forgery Nora has hoped for

,that moment and at the same time has.dreaded it

.of devotion he has ever given her

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    24/27

She's also scared and worried becauseshe is determined that if he did show her

,the real devotion he'll take the blame, upon himself to protect her which is

something she'll never allow to happen, ,scared that if it happened she'll run awayand take her own life to show the world

    Resolution

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    26/27

The resolution in this play occurs whenNora takes a stance against her husband

,finally at the conclusion and decides toleave and discover who she is truly and

.what she really feels about life

  • 8/14/2019 White Flowers2(1)

    27/27

,If you read the story you'll find that.there was always a moral behind it Instead

of the characters being plain with no.depth

All of Isben's main characters arecomplicated people with problems that the

    .audience can relate to
