Celluloid Jam sits perched on a hilltop plateau amid

lush greenery, yet no amount of flora and fauna can

conceal this striking, blob-shaped white residential con-

struct in Myoren-ji, located in the south-eastern part of

Yokohama. If Norisada Maeda’s intention was to infuse

an aura of disquiet in the otherwise tranquil milieu, the

principal architect of N Maeda Atelier Architects & As-

sociates has pulled it off with his artistic creation.

Inspired by a Möbius strip, the splendor of Celluloid

Jam lies in the continual flow of its surfaces from the

exterior to interior. Every room has a special connec-

tion to the outside. From the outer wall to the roof to

the interior floor and back to the starting point, all the

elements enjoin as a seamless structure.
