Show your appreciation for our wonderful teachers by celebrating World TeachersDay tomorrow. Celebrated in over 100 countries, World Teachers' Day acknowledges multi-skilled professionals who lead our children in learning, their efforts in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. It is a day on which children, parents and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to their community. What is World TeachersDay? WTD was inaugurated on 5th October 1994 by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to commemorate the 1966 joint signing of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. In adopting this recommendation, governments unanimously recognised the importance of competent, qualified and motivated teachers in society. Internationally World TeachersDay is celebrated on the first Friday in October. However as this is usually during Australian school holidays, Australia celebrates the day on the last Friday in October of each year. FROM NEXT WEEK CHECK OUT THE DISPLAY OF OUR AMAZING NEW BUILDING PLANS IN THE FOYER 2018 Planning & News Planning for 2018 is well and truly underway. We are excited to be able to continue our focus on teaching students at their individual points of need. We will continue our focus on literacy and numeracy with a strong focus on reading development with Levelled Literacy Intervention, making our learning visible and parent support. Student welfare will continue to focus on Positive Behaviour approaches through Pivotal Education and our Social Skills Program – Bounce Back, Bee Three & Student Awards and Student Leadership opportunities while supporting mental health and wellbeing through the KidsMatter initiative. We will be building upon successful school events including the school concert, sports carnival, swimming program, art show and urban farm. We will continue to provide Before and After School care along with Holiday Programs through our partnership with Kelly Club. We will also continue to provide FREE breakfast for every student in our school from 8.30am every morning. We will also be opening our new Year3-6 Learning Space building early in the year. We ask if you have a child or know of someone with a child due to commence school in 2018 or would like to transfer to our school in 2018 please collect and complete an enrolment form as soon as possible. Additionally if you know your child is not returning to Glengala in 2018 (other than current Year 6 students), please notify the school as soon as possible.
