WHO ARE “DREAMERS”? Aproximately 800,00 unauthorized immagrants have recieved work permits and protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA). These men and women are referred to as “dreamers” . Nearly 8 in 10 dreamers come from Mexico. DACA recipients come from all over the world, though, including: Peru South Korea El Salvador Dominican Republic India 53% of Dreamers are female, 47% are male. 2 out of 3 of these people are between 16 and 25 years of age. 24% are 26-30, while only 11% are older than 31. 21-25 16-20 26-30 31+ About 571,000, more than 7 in 10, Dreamers hold jobs. The most occupied jobs among these workers include food operation/services (16%), sales (15%), office/admin (12%), and construction (10%). 100% of DACA recpients are either enrolled in or have at least graduated high school. 64% are currently enrolled or have completed high school. 20% are currently enrolled in college. And 16% have completed some college, with 5% of those recieving at least a Bachelor’s. Out of the nearly 800,000 people who have recieved benefits from the DACA program: About 690,000 are still protected, 70,000 have been rejected to recieve or not renewed their benefits, And only 40,000 have gone on to recieve their green card and become legal citizens. These people are active contributors to our society. They are in our schools, our communities, and our workplaces. They deserve more than just a temporary protection. They deserve a quick and simple path toward citizenship. They are just like us, and deserve to be treated that way.
