World Day of Prayer
This Friday, March 3 is the World Day of Prayer, an initiative that began in 1922. Christians from more than 170 countries worldwide (more than 2,000 Canadian communities) will gather to learn about, pray for and celebrate the Philippines (different country every year) in solidarity with the women of the area. Here in the valley, the Radium Christian Fellowship will hold prayer at 2 pm and the Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church in In-vermere will gather at 7 pm. Everyone is invited to attend both or either of the cere-monies.
Rockies Hockey
This is a tough issue to talk Rockies Hockey as they are in the playoffs and I am not sure if they will be winning or losing each evening. The Rockies have lost the first two games of their playoff series against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 5-1 and 4-2. Both games were in Creston. They are playing here in town tonight (Monday, Feb. 27) and tomorrow but I am unsure what will happen after that. If the series does go to a game 6, it will be here in Invermere on Friday, March 3 at 7:30 pm. Your voice makes a difference so come on out and cheer on our local team. There are lots of great prizes including pizza, Timbits, swag and more.

Robservations
This valley is an amazing place to be. It is so naturally beautiful and diverse that it is incredible. People come here from far and wide to enjoy the things on our doorstep. Fortunately, it is all here for us to enjoy. The main problem is that we all get so involved in our lives that we often forget why we are here. Why are we here? I am in the Columbia Valley because it was my stopover between Castlegar (home) and Calgary (employment). This was a great place to take a break, hang out with buddies, and go fishing, swimming, skiing or golfing. I knew for years that this is where I wanted to end up living rather than just visiting for a few weekends every year. Why are you here? Why am I on this planet? That is an inter-esting question. I don’t really have a firm answer but I can tell you that it is not so I can make a lot of money and buy a lot of stuff. I think I am here to make the world a better place for others. If I can add a smile or a bit of happiness to someone’s day then I feel a lot better about my day. Odds are that I will end up passing away with very little to my name but will have lived a rich, fulfilling life. And you?
Aging
A friend handed me a photo of themselves and told me it was from when they were younger. I thought to myself, ‘Aren’t all photos from when we were younger?’
International Women’s Day
Next Wednesday, March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is a day that celebrates the economic, political and social achieve-ments of women in the past, present and future. The Women’s Centre is hosting a free lunch and information day at their office in Frater Landing, 926-7th Ave, Invermere. Lunch runs from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The open house will go until 7 pm. Call 250-342-3963 for more information.

Watson’s
Waddle
Today is M o n d a y and that is the day that Rob sits and writes most of the weekly issue of The Valley Peak. It is a pretty good day for me other than I have to come up with an article for you. It is funny how I am able to manipulate Rob most of the day. He is pretty busy scrambling to get things done but he often glances over to me to see what I am think-ing about (food, exercise, sleep, scritches, etc.). I just have to give a bit of a moan and look up at him and I have a good chance of getting to go for a walk. Other days for sure and maybe a couple short walks on Monday. When he is done it will be a nice long walk. For Rob, Monday is a stress day. For me it is a rest day. I sleep in really late and eventually wander out for a nap beside his desk. It was a busy weekend with lots of exercise and meeting lots of people. Thanks to everyone who gave me a rub or a treat. I really enjoy the outings. Have a great week folks. Love your friends and family like you love your pets. Just pure love and caring. It is a good thing.
What Year Was It?
An easy one. Michael Jackson was se-verely burned while filming a Pepsi com-mercial, Pierre Trudeau retired, replaced as Prime Minister by John Turner who was then badly defeated by Brian Mulroney with 211 seats, the strongest Canadian majority government ever, and Vanessa Williams resigned her Miss USA crown due to nude Penthouse photos. What year was it? (George Orwell wrote about it). See page 10.
Plenty of Plunges
Congratulations to the 28 people who made the Polar Plunge into Windermere Lake last Friday. Things were shrinking but the funds were growing. They raised $8,000 for adaptive ski equipment for per-sons with disabilities. Thanks to the organizers, all who donated and the brave souls who took the plunge. Thanks to Watson for talking me out of it.
Thank You for your Patronage.
It has been a pleasure serving you.

Riddliculous Answer
(From page 2) Ten 3-letter body parts are: arm, ear, eye, gum, hip, jaw, leg, lip, rib and toe. Also, gut and lid. Really, you could include words such as ‘tooth’ as it only uses 3 letters in its spelling (‘t’, ‘o’, and ‘h’).
Raids
“Well loyal knight,” asked the king. “What have you been up to?” “I have been raiding and pillaging enemy villages to the north.” “I don’t have enemies to the north.” “I’m afraid that you do now.”
Green Peak
The Green Peak Medical Cannabis Dis-pensary is now fully open and serving cli-ents. They have a great variety of products that can be a great help when dealing with many medical issues. Are you a potential client? Cannabis is proving to be helpful for many health is-sues. HealTHCare does include THC lol. They are providing on-sight consultations with a medical professional to help you determine if this product is right for you. Call 778-526-5233 for information.
Pint Promotion
The Station Neighbourhood Pub is closing in on their goal of raising $25,000 towards audio-visual equipment for the new multi-use community centre. They are currently just over $24,000 raised. A dollar is being donated for every pint purchase ($3 for a jug) and the owners (Jason and Justin) will match the dona-tions to total 25 grand. They are less than 500 pints away from the target. Get down there and have a pint to help push them over the tip. Great beer for a great cause.

The Horsethief Creek Pub is hosting their monthly Yukyuk’s On Tour Live Comedy Show on Saturday, March 11. Laughter is a wonderful thing and these shows have been perfect for a good laugh. I have at-tended most of them. Marcus Beaubier and emcee Bobby War-rener are both funny, talented gentlemen who will keep everyone amused. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Don’t miss it as the show will lift your spirits for days. Laughter is always the best medicine.
The Year It Was
(From page 4) In 1984, a house cost $86,000, a car was $9,000 and the aver-age annual income was $21,600. Marc Garneau became the first Canadian in space, the Soviet Union boycotted the Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games, the Macintosh Personal Computer went on the market, Beverley Hills Cop was released and the first compact disc was sold.
Burning
Some folks say that I really know how to light up a room. Other folks call me an arsonist.
Friday Night Dinners
This Friday, March 3, the Invermere Le-gion is putting on a pork rib dinner at 6:30 pm. Tender and tasty with side dishes, dessert and a beverage. The Friday meals are always awesome. Try the 50/50 and meat draws while you are there. Or show up on a Thursday for Texas Hold’Em Poker and cribbage tour-naments.
Great Ribs
Of course, I make the best back ribs in the valley. Unfortunately I don’t share much. I do have a couple places in the valley that I really enjoy their ribs. On Tuesdays, the lunch special at Kootenay Coffee Works & Soup Company is baby back ribs. Plus Fairmont Pizza & Ice Cream Parlour also has ribs on their menu every day. Both places do an amazing job with their ribs. Slow-cooked so that they are fall-off-the-bone tender and so very tasty. If you enjoy ribs, I recommend either of those two places for their ribs or any other menu items. Good food is a good thing.

Oops Happy Anniversary
Happy anniversary to John and Donna Balcers (I think). I put a note on the back of an envelope and then lost the envelope. I believe that they are celebrating their 50th sometime in March but I have lost the de-tails. Oops. Sorry about that.
Summer Employment
The District of Invermere is accepting re-sumes for up to 6 summer jobs. Two jobs are as part of the general parks labour crew, three jobs as gardeners and one job as office customer service and administra-tive support. All the jobs have a great pay scale for sum-mer students. Please check out the ad on page 9 for more details or visit www.invermere.net.
Where I Was
The photo on page 6 is from this past Fri-day. It is a shot of Jon of the Windermere Fire Department in the Polar Plunge hole in Lake Windermere. He was there for safety’s sake.
Curling Thanks
The Invermere District Curling Centre pur-chased a new ice scraper prior to this sea-son. It is an essential part of providing a good ice surface for curling. The Board and members would like to thank the contributors to the purchase of the scraper. The District of Invermere, RDEK, Rotary Club and Lions Club all helped the club out. Thank you very much.
A Glowing Success
Congratulations to the organizers of the glow curling event last Saturday evening. Staff at The Station Pub teamed up with the Curling Centre for a great evening. Fourteen teams attired in bright clothing filled the Centre and lit it up with black lighting. It was really cool. Thanks to all the folks who put in time to make the event a success. It was very well done. Watch for it next year.
Trivia Time
Last week’s ‘Wednesday Night Trivia’ at The Station Neighbourhood Pub was an exciting one. It was one of the busiest eve-nings so far and a few teams were close to the top. Have you checked it out yet? It happens at 7 pm every Wednesday evening. It is a lot
of fun as you are reminded of how many things you have forgotten in your life. There is a good mix of music, current events and just plain random stuff from everywhere and any time. Cost is only $2/person and you can have up to 6 people on your team.
