Staff.3. Help you work on your social and communication skills that can be

applied in school and elsewhere.

0 Thursday, August 30th: Administration & Support Staff Photo Review & Personal Business Card Creation

Who We Are? Activity

0 Headmaster (Po`okula): Leads and manages Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i overall.0 Principal (Po`okumu) & Vice Principal (Hope Po`okumu): Leads and manages overall Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i high school.0 Office Staff: Assists students & families with school communication & daily operations.0 Career & Counseling Department: Supports students with their academic, social/emotional issues & post-high goals & action plans.0 Library Staff: Assists students with library resources, technology and research.0 Pāhana Kīpaepae 1-To-1 Laptop Program : Assists students with laptop training, trouble-shooting, repairs, random checks & consequences.0 Educational Assistants: Supports students & teachers in the classroom with their academics & school with tutoring & supervision.0 Student Activities: Ensures students have opportunities to lead & enjoy school through student-driven activities.0 Athletic Department: Supporting students by providing various athletic opportunities.

Note: Pictures of Administration & Support Staff members will be shared in the next lesson.

WHO ARE WE?

You will have the opportunity to meet with various Administration & Support Staff through this activity. You will be preparing yourself for introductions to two (2) Administration &/or Support Staff members on campus. Here are the steps for your preparations:

Step 1: Tuesday, August 24th (today): o Practice introductions in class with Advisor & classmates.

Step 2: Thursday, August 30th:o Review photos of Administration & Support Staff with Advisor to familiarize

yourself with their faces, names & roles. o Create two (2) personal business cards to give the Administration &/or Support

Staff when you meet them. o You will also create a card for Administration &/or Support Staff to sign after you

have introduced yourself to them.

Step 3: Your assignment will be to introduce yourself to two (2) Administration &/or Support Staff on campus between August 30th through September 5th. You will need to turn in your signature card to your Advisor for credit as a requirement for Ke `Ano o Ka Liko Lehua by Wednesday, September 5th.

How to get to Know them?

Today’s Activity – Step: 11. Advisor to review

proper introductions with all students.

2. Following review, Advisor will assign partners for each students to practice introductions.

3. Advisor will close lesson with volunteers practicing introductions in front of the class.

Practice Your Introductions Partner with another student to practice introducing yourself to an Administrator &/or a Support Staff member. Be sure to rotate roles. Below is a sample script you may want to use, however if you have a script similar to this, please feel free to use.

Student: “Aloha e Mr./Mrs./Kumu______________(Administrator or Support Staff name)My name is ____________ ____________(your first & last name).” Or“Aloha e Mr./Mrs./Kumu_______________(Administrator or Support Staff name)'O _________ __________(your first & last name) ko'u inoa (My name is _________).” Extend your hand to shake

Staff: “Aloha e _________” (student name). “Pehea 'oe?” (How are you?)

Student: “Maika'i no au”. (I am fine.)

Staff: “It’s nice to meet you, __________”. (student name)

Student: “I’m a 9th grader from ________(hometown). I wanted to introduce myself to you and hope I get to know you better over the years”.

Staff: “Mahalo ________(student’s name). I hope to get to know you better as well.”

Student: “I want to give you my business card. It gives you a little more information about me. Mahalo Mr./Mrs./Kumu _____________(Administrator or Staff name), I truly appreciate your time. Could you please sign my signature card to show that I met you? A hui hou!” Shake their hand.

Who Are We? Introductions & Interviews

Ke `Ano o Ka Liko Lehua1. Review Photos of Administration & Support Staff & their titles. Advisor can

explain their roles.

2. Create two (2) personal business cards or use business cards provided.

3. On the back of your business card, write/draw more information about yourself (e.g., Family members, extracurricular activities, hobbies, career goals, etc.) Note: You may want to bring pictures, color pens/pencils & other materials to help with creating your business cards.

4. Create one (1) signature card for Administration &/or Support Staff to sign after introductions & interviews.
