What we do and why we do it…

We host and coordinate events, programs and projects that address topics of civil rights and civic responsibility.

We do it because we have a concern and passion for social justice. We believe that the University setting is the ideal forum for exploration and action. We use social constructs to guide these efforts.

Social Constructs……are used to describe how human beings relate to one another and our environs:

• Fall & Spring Yard Clean-Up for local citizens in need

• Sustainability Film Series (Food for Thought)• Intersections Film Series and Dialogue• Holiday Giving Tree• “Empty Bowls” poverty project collaboration• Alternative Break activities, edu-travel

Programs & Events

• Diversity & Dialogue, workshops, retreats• Days of…. Honor & Respect for differences,

support for the struggle, respect for those who have served (i.e., Day of Silence, 9/11, Veteran’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration)

• Training modules for use in organizations, workplace, classroom

• Issues of Humanity speakers

Nearly Everything We Do is a Collaboration Toward Inclusivity

• Co-sponsorship with community agencies & businesses (VISTA, United Way, BookEnds, Raw Deal, Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts)

• Co-sponsorship with student organizations (BSU, HSSO, GreenSense, Social Sciences Society, Latinos Unidos, SSA)

• Co-sponsorship with campus departments & committees (Women & Gender Studies, University Housing, Multicultural Student Services).
