Whole Body Strong WELLNESS & RECREATION PROGRAMS Afternoon Yoga Whole Body Strong is a whole body exercise program, based upon the principals of essentrics, which include: A dynamic workout approach that lengthens and strengthens every muscle in the body, resulting in greater joint mobility and lean, long muscles. A full-body technique that works all of the muscle groups, easing tension in the process. A workout that incorporates the smooth movements of tai chi for health and balance, and the strengthening and stretching of ballet resulting in lean, long and flexible muscles. Whole Body Strong aims to help increase full body flexibility, help improve posture and balance, unlock tight muscles and joints, strengthen the spine and core, and help to treat and prevent back pain. WELLNESS & RECREATION PROGRAMSAfternoon Yoga

Whole Body Strong is a whole body exercise program, based upon the principals of essentrics, which include:

Identical to Morning Yoga, but open to drop-ins for the first three classes. If you have considered yoga but are uncertain as to whether or not this is a practice you would enjoy, consider dropping in for a class or two to see if this is something you would enjoy and benefit from doing.

MS ActionDesigned to help people living with MS improve their overall health and fitness, this program will help strengthen your muscles and increase flexibility to help manage symptoms.

Tai Chi Health Recovery ClassThis class is open to individuals who are both ambulatory and/or utilizing a mobility aid. As is the case with all Tai Chi classes, a philosophy which integrates both mind and body is utilized as part of an overall health maintenance system. Tai Chi movements are gentle and balanced, which makes it a perfect exercise to be practiced by anyone, regardless of age and/or physical condition. Warmer hands, stronger legs, and greater endurance are just a few of the rewards achieved from faithful practice. WELLNESS & RECREATION PROGRAMSNeurofit/Stroke ProgramStroke and neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis can affect your quality of life, particularly your ability to stay active. Neurofit will focus on increasing strength, endurance, and flexibility. Special consideration will be given to factors which may impact your ability to exercise, such as fatigue, heat sensitivity, loss of balance and spasticity. Participants must be able to walk with or without a walking aid or be accompanied by an attendant.

Pilates - Standing & Floor ClassA dynamic and fun Pilates class to improve posture, ease of movement, balance and strength. Massage TherapyMassage Therapy is provided by students of the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies Inc. Massage is offered on Tuesday afternoons at either 1:00, 2:00 or 3:00 pm at the college on Berry Street. While there is no cost for this program, donations to the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies Inc. are welcome. All donations will go towards a scholarship for students of the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies Inc. Please consider this a way to thank the students for their hard work, and the college for continuing to provide this wonderful service for the MS Society.

NEW Saturday ProgramThis program includes practices such as yoga and meditation to bring balance and wellbeing to your life. It is geared towards younger adults living with MS.This is the perfect class for students, employed people and those with weekday family commitments.You are required to bring your own mat to class.

Get Better Together – a program designed for Manitobans living with on-going health conditions. Trained facilitators lead workshops on medication, symptom management and health care needs. Fitness Guidelines at a GlanceFor important fitness benefits, adults with MS who have mild or moderate disability need at least:

•30 minutes of aerobic activity, 2 times per week, AND•Strength-training exercises for major muscle groups, 2 times per week

WinnipegPeer Support Program • Are you seeking support from someone who understands what it is like to live with MS? The peer support program offers opportunity for one-on-one support from volunteers who are people living with MS. Support is most often over the phone and offered throughout Manitoba. Contact the Peer Support Program at [email protected] or 1-800-268-7582 x3149 to request more information or an application.

Self-Help & Support Groups • Groups are a great way to connect with other people affected by MS and to shareinformation and support in a safe confidential environment. All groups are open to new members. Please contact Ellen (204- 988-0917 or email [email protected] ) who will help match you to up with a group and introduce you to the group facilitator prior to your first meeting.

We are currently seeking members/people to start new support groups in the following rural communities across Manitoba: Selkirk, Stonewall, and a young adult group in Portage la Prairie.

SOCIAL PROGRAMSSocial GroupsThe Winnipeg area currently has three social groups that meet regularly. The participants in these groups plan outings to a wide variety of locations throughout the city (i.e. going out to lunch, trips to museums and art galleries, and attending sporting events.) Conference for CaregiversIn collaboration with like-minded organizations, the MS Society will be hosting a break-out session specific to caregivers for persons with MS during the conference. The theme of the break out session is the impact of MS on Families, including dealing with different life changing transitions as a caregiver to a person living with MS.
