FAMILIES OF FAITH!

MICHAEL PAUL LEON The
experience of our Youth Minister & the courage to respond.
WISDOM From a family who have experienced catechesis and evangelization centered in the family.
Charter of the Rights of Families“As primary educators, parents are also children’s first instructors in the faith. By word, example and common prayer, parents can show children the love of Christ and teach them about the deposit of faith.”
“While parents may choose various modes of education for their children (Catholic education, public school or homeschooling) it remains the parents’ duty above anyone else’s to teach their children. This necessarily means remaining informed and involved in the education children are receiving and supplementing or moderating when the need arises.”

What Questions Does a Healthy, Evangelized Parish Ask Itself?
“Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.”
What is the Good News? KERYGMA
What is the truth about the world we go to? CULTURE
What are the realities that are currently affecting our families?

What are the observable truths about our community’s practice of faith?
CHURCH
How and when was the task of educating our children in faith taken from us?
You lost it about 70 - 90 years ago, beginning just after World War I
When did learning facts about Jesus become a substitute for being a Disciple of Jesus?
When Catechesis was moved into a classroom environment and Mass became optional. Not encountering Jesus in Sunday Eucharist allowed us to become irrelevant.
When did our culture become less Christian?
The Christian share of the U.S. population is declining, while the number of U.S. adults who do not identify with any organized religion is growing, according to an extensive new survey by the Pew Research Center. Moreover, these changes are taking place across the religious landscape, affecting all regions of the country and many demographic groups. While the drop in Christian affiliation is particularly pronounced among young adults, it is occurring among Americans of all ages.
The largest single Christian Denomination in the U.S. remains Roman Catholics (72 million)
The second largest population group are ex-Catholics (23 million)
The largest growing population belongs to those who self identified as “none” (56 million)

Evangelization: Jesus made known to
children through learning.
TO GROW IN KNOWLEGDESTUDY & TRUTH
How is Jesus made known thru my child’s Class Family? In what many of us experienced, your child participates once a month in a structured classroom setting utilizing a scope and sequenced presentation of faith as set forth by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.

TO GROW IN PRACTICEACTS OF LOVE AND PRAYER
How is Jesus made known thru our Home Family?Twice a month, you prepare as a family, to attend Mass together and then continue discussions throughout the week on how to respond as a family to what you heard. This should be reflected in the daily prayers you offer with your child, and any other conversations, conflicts, questions or issues you face as a family, thus Mass continues, parents lead in faith and we are accountable to God!

TO GROW IN COMMUNITYRELATIONSHIP & CONNECTEDNESS
How is Jesus made known thru our Whole Church Family? As you have already experienced, once a month your whole family gathers with other families and parishioners to explore faith through our Whole Family Catechesis Program. This time for intergenerational learning, sharing a simple breakfast, and building relationships with those who share our values and faith connects disciples to disciples – for the evangelization of the world.
