WHS e-Bulletin Friday 28 September 2018 Important dates for your diary: Monday 22 - 26 October - Half Term Monday 29 October 2018 - Inset Day See our term dates for this academic year: 2018/2019 term dates Headteacher's Message Dear Parents and Families, As Ms Sorba and Ms Charman have said within this bulletin, we are all absolutely delighted with the turn out for the Year 7 and Year 11 events held at school this week. It is absolutely crucial that families stay connected to the school in events like these to ensure that your child makes the very best progress here. In both events there was a genuine and tangible feel of collective family and shared purpose which was great to be part of. This of course is such an important time for Year 11 and what clearly emerged from the Information Evening was a real determination by all involved that we will ensure every student achieves all they can but will be supported fully throughout this stressful time. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank those students with 100% attendance. It is of course tremendously important that our students come to school as often as they can to ensure they remain on track to reach their full potential. Well done to all. Best wishes, Gary Nelson Headteacher Arefin, Marcel & Mr Nelson

Dear Parents and Families,

As Ms Sorba and Ms Charman have said within this bulletin, we are all absolutely delighted with the turn out for the Year 7 and Year 11 events held at school this week. Museum of London Docklands

Last week the whole of Year 8 went on a fascinating trip to the Museum of London Docklands to support their work in History and Workshop Wednesdays. It was great to be in Canary Wharf and see how the area has changed over the last 5 years and how different groups of people have traveled through this key port on our doorstep.

Careers and Opportunities

This week saw the continuation of our Business Expert speeches. Year 10 met with Sandy Lacey-Aberdein, Head of Talent at Zoopla, who spoke about her career journey and the key skills she looks forwhen recruiting young people.

Wapping High students have been offered the opportunity to join the Centre of the Cell Youth MembershipScheme, this is a great program that helps young people interested in careers in health, medicine orveterinary science. Members would have the chance to take part in work experience placements, volunteering and mentoring as well as lectures and revision classes.

Any student aged 14 or above interested in joining the scheme should see Mr Dean for an applicationform.

Year 11 Information Evening

The Year 11 Information Evening on Thursday was a key event for the GCSE students and I am delightedit was very well attended. Key information that was covered can be seen in the links below. I should also like to say how grateful we were to Marcel and Arefin, two very recent alumni, who cameback to share some top tips with Year 11 on how to do well in this crucial year. They provided wise wordsindeed.

If you missed the Information Evening you can find the presentation here and the link to the GCSErevision books here. Click here for a list of Post 16 Open Events.

An easier way for you to make school payments

From Tuesday 2 October we will be using +Pay on ParentMail – an online payment service which allows you to pay for school items quickly and easily on your smartphone, tablet or computer. This is the same account you are linked to when you receive texts and emails.

We will inform you about items you need to pay through ParentMail and you will be able to pay electronically using credit or debit cards as well as PayPal and PayPoint. You will need to use this service to pay for school lunches. Any money on your child’s lunch account will be transferred across to this system.

If you have an Android or Apple smartphone, we would highly recommend you download the free ParentMail App so that you can make easy, online payments on the go. To do this, simply search for“ParentMail” in your App store.

If you do not wish to make payments online, you can of course, continue to pay cash.

Please note, your bank statement will display either the school name or ParentMail, dependent on your payment method.

Any questions or queries please call Jenna Stonebanks on 0203 597 3673 or email [email protected]

Mrs Stonebanks
