In 1970, Dr. Stuhlinger, then Associate Director of Science at the Marshall Space Flight Center, received a letter from Sister Mary Jucunda, O. P., a nun working in Zambia. She questioned the spending for the exploration of space when we have needs on earth. Dr. Stuhlinger made a heartfelt reply defending the space program.
