learning.

The Programme is delivered using a blended mode of classroom teaching and virtual learning; 1

week intensive teaching per trimester, per year which represents just 3 weeks out of 52 in the

classroom, reducing the impact on time away from working responsibilities. All students will be fully

supported in their learning by GCU Learn; the virtual learning environment (VLE), which is the core

technology-based system for students and faculty. All relevant information on modules (content,

announcements, contact details, assignment submission, blogs and wikis and resources links) will be

accessible via GCULearn.

Coaching & Mentoring

We use a 3 way mentorship approach

1. Through GCU mentoring scheme we aim to support professional learners through theirsignificant career transitions. Mentoring for Induction will be used to support professionallearners on joining SWBE. The mentorship programme will used to support professionallearners to respond to the demands of the new role, to understand the responsibilities itbrings and the values it implies and address significant issues that may inhibit progress.

2. Through Specialist Coaching that happens in the participants’ workplace, we aim to enable

the development of a specific aspect of a professional learner’s practice; review and refine

established practice, develop and extend teaching and learning repertoire, introduce and

experiment with alternative learning strategies, support the development of a culture of

openness e.g. mutual support for and critique of professional practice.

3. Through Collaborative (Co-) coaching between GCU and the employer to enable learners

to embed new knowledge and skills from specialist sources in day-to-day practice, offering

mutual support for and critique of professional practice. It also provides a good preparation

for the CMI end point assessment

Assessment

Learners are assessed by completing a variety of assessments to test many attributes relevant for successful management performance in the workplace. Assessment types can include management and reports, research investigations into practice, problem-solving activities, presentations, self, peer and co-assessment, and in-company projects.

There are no exams for the BA (Honours) Professional Practice in Management. This unique approach to assessment of the degree enables each learner to contextualise and tailor their learning to their organisation and sector.

Each module will have a formative and summative assignment rather than exams.
