Every day the impacts of climate change on water management are growing. The variability that this phenomenon causes on the quality and quantity of this vital resource affects populations in virtually all economic activities and thus their level of development. A group of organizations have come together to seek solutions that deal with this issue through the Regional Policy Dialog (RPD) on Water and Climate Change Adaptation in the Americas.
One of the RPD’s activities is to promote activities related with water-based climate change adaptation through the “Water and Adaptation Actions in the Americas” Inventory (Inventory WaterAAA). Its objective is to compile actions, experiences and lessons learned on water-based climate change adaptation from organizations throughout the Americas. The activities included in the Inventory range from public policies, regulations and laws to projects and programs, be they local, national or supranational in scope.
The RPD, in coordination with FEMSA Foundation and the
National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA), with the
support of the Water Advisory Council, the Water Center for Latin
America and the Caribbean and Freshwater Action Network
Mexico (FANMex), have created the “Prize for Water and
Adaptation Actions” (PrizeWAA) with the following objectives:
Those interested should register their actions through the WaterAAA
Inventory and select the option to be a candidate for the PrizeWAA.
The actions can be uploaded in English and Spanish through the
following website:
Three finalists will be chosen, and will be invited to
the prize ceremony which will take place during the 6th
World Water Forum in Marseilles,
France (with all expenses covered), where the winner will
be announced. The most outstanding action will be rewarded
with a monetary stimulus of USD $50,000 which
should be used for the development and implementation of the
activities laid out in the candidate’s action plan.

Involvement of civil society, different levels of government, private sector, research centers/universities and inter-governmental agencies
The extent to which the action makes use of innovative technologies or practices to respond to the problem at hand
The action’s potential to be replicated in other geographical, cultural and hydro-climate circumstances
