    French soldier. The cartouche box was now a smaller 'belly'pouch attached o the waist belt, he shoulder eltwas hinnerand only held-up he po\rder flask. The sword was still attachedto the waist belt, but the bayonet, which had previously hungalongside ihe cartouche box on the right hip, was nowpositioned with the sword.
