Edith R. Dixon Field • Home of the Pride

Widener’s women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams play their home games at Edith R. Dixon Field, which opened in 2005 and became home to our women’s lacrosse team in 2006. Equipped with artificial turf, lights and a scoreboard, the field is easily accessible for fans and students to watch the Pride. The field also serves as home for our intramural squads.

Widener University’s Women’s Lacrosse team would like to give a special thanks to all our sponsors for your continued support

of the program.

PREVIEW

Consistency. It is a very important element in building a win team on every level. Consistency is a key word for the Pride this season as the squad boasts 15 returnees among their 22-player roster and looks for bigger and better things this year. A key returnee is senior midfielder Julia Costello, who last season was tabbed second team All-Commonwealth Conference. A vital player in every sense when it comes to shooting, passing or playing defense, the Brookhaven product took major steps last season toward making herself one of the league’s dominant players. She led the team with 42 goals, a .538 shot percentage and 58 draw controls last season as well as ending second with 17 assists. Another key midfielder back in the mix is junior Amy Albano. A standout athlete, she looks to find the same form from her freshman year when she amassed 18 goals and 30 points. Mackenzie Lindquist made the most of a solid freshman campaign last season by totaling 11 goals and 26 ground balls at midfield and looks for more of the same this year. Sophomore Melissa Sailey also played a big role at midfield a season ago, closing with 46 draw controls, 23 ground balls and 13 points. Junior Danielle LaVallee as well as sophomores Megan Granata and Megan Capobianco also look for more time at midfield. Senior Laura Kalbach blossomed at attack last season, ending tied for fourth on the team with 18 goals and 20 points, and also could see time this year at midfield. She totaled seven starts in 2012 and is certain to see that number go up this year. Senior Lauren Staedt and sophomore Pinky Schneider also are challenging for more playing time at attack. Senior Nicole Kumor was one of four players last season to start all 15 games and she is an important element on defense. She ended the year with 25 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Senior Rochelle Retirado paced the team with 20 caused turnovers and looks for even more this year. Junior Liz Glassman and sophomore Martha Lowitz also look to play a role on defense. Megan Dunn enters with the inside track as the starting goalkeeper. Making 14 starts as a freshman last season, she made 127 saves over 703 minutes. The Pride welcome seven newcomers in Caitlyn Mullner, Megan Mills, Noelle Cinquino, Morgan Scott, Lindsey Brust, Kelley Dreher and Meghan Garvey.
