    SPECIAL 2019 QUILT SHOW EDITION

    Wildower Quilt Guild Newsletter

    LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR

Our 2019 “Star Light, Star Bright” Quilt Show is over and done now. I hope everyone has had

time to rest, recoup and look back on our success. It took a lot of hard work but it was also a lot

of fun! I am happy to share with you that our total Quilt Show profit was $11,934, and just over

800 people attended our amazing show, with 211 quilts entered! (Please see the chart below for

more details on Show Facts and Figures.)

Thank you to ALL who were involved in the show. Thank You to the quilters who made and

shared your quilts with us. Thank You to all the Show Committee chairpersons who took

care of their jobs and made each aspect of the show run so smoothly. Thank You for

the tireless efforts of the Set Up, Hanging, Take Down and Take In/Distribution committee

workers. That team included husbands, Scouts and dads, and relatives of our members

who spent hours getting the poles and drapes up, quilts hanging and then taking everything

down and returned to the owners.

Thank You to all who worked at the show - Quilt Angels, Admissions, Raffle Ticket booth,

Guild booth, Boutique, Community Service and Vendors. Each of you played an important

part! Thank You to our judges for their hard work Thursday in looking at each of the quilts,

for their positive comments to help us become better quilters and for their decision-

making skills in choosing the winners. Thank You to our Wildflower Award sponsors! It was

wonderful to have our special Category this year “Donations”. Thank you for our Anonymous

    sponsor for that category.

As you see, there were a lot of people involved in making our show happen and such a

success. Each of you deserves a pat on the back and a hearty congratulations! Now we

  • look forward to our next show in two years and yes, that does seem like a long time, but

you know how time has been flying by! I hope someone will soon step forward to take the reigns

as Show Chairperson(s). Mary Ann and I have worked to leave information for the upcoming

Show Chairpersons and their committees that will help guide you for the next show. With the

help of all committees, the jobs are all doable and it helps meld our group into a stronger, more

    cohesive organization.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Quilt Show Director/Co-Chairperson. I have

learned a lot through the process and I feel I have made stronger friendships within our group.

    Most Sincerely,

    Stacy Clady

  • BEST OF SHOW - Texas Holiday Star by Victoria Rondeau

This quilt was made to be the 2020 Crossroads to Texas Quilt Guild Raffle Quilt. I designed it

using Judy Niemeyer’s/Quiltworx “Quiltster” program, which allows you to choose fabric, colors,

and patterns to make a picture perfect replica of a quilt that you want to make.

These paper pieced quilt blocks were made by guild volunteers Brenda Anderson, Maureen

Gallop, Connie Duffey, and Nancy Judd, who spent many hours making the blocks perfect. I then

pieced the blocks together and added the mitered borders. I spent approximately 150 hours

quilting this quilt, which enhanced the beauty of the design.

You can talk to me at any WQG meeting for details on buying raffle tickets for this special quilt.

  • VIEWER'S CHOICE AWARD - Blue Rabbit Quilt by Carol Ann Wadley

  • Several years ago, my daughter had a job in Ft. Davis, Tx with the Chihuahuan Desert Research

Institute. While visiting her, I fell in love with that part of Texas. She asked that I make a quilt to

hang in her office and so I made the first Blue Rabbits. After that first one, I made several more

to be auctioned off at the Institute’s yearly fund-raiser. My daughter changed jobs and I hadn’t

thought about Blue Rabbits until my granddaughter asked that I make one for her and so I did.

This is the one I entered in the Wildflower Guild Quilt Show.

I have to tell a funny story – I loved designing and making the first one so much, I entered it in

the Ft. Worth quilt show. That was at least 10 years go. In my heart, I just knew I’d won all kinds

of prizes! Not only did it not win, but it was hung on the wall just outside the Men’s Restroom.

And to make matters worse, the only comment the judge could think of was, “Nice Binding.” It

took lots of tears and several years to laugh about it!
