Why invent?
Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) are already a part of everyday life whether it’s your hobbies, keeping fit or entertainment.
More and more jobs now require STEM skills.

For an exciting and successful future career you will need a background in STEM subjects.
Do you want to work in sport, film, fashion, photography, politics or journalism?
Wouldn’t it be great if there was something that could…?
Everything we use was invented by someone. From the pen we write with to the clock on the wall, from our lunchbox to our pencil case, somebody first had to have the idea. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths are the basis of innovation.
Invention has changed our world
Think about the:
• physics of a paper clip• chemistry of ‘Post It’ note glue • biology of personalised medicine• engineering in a mobile phone• maths of programming a mobile
phone app
These are some of last year’s winning ideas:
• Use your fridge as a heater• Network your jewelry• Hike with a hands-free umbrella kit• Write with a pen that predicts your mood• Maximise safety with an aviation emergency
mechanism• Save lives with a diabetic medical kit
How to enter
•The competition is open to 11-16 year olds•There are two age categories: 11-13 and 14-16 •Include your name, age, school, email address and phone number
•Email your entry to [email protected]•The closing date is April 10th 2016
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
•Originality/Innovation•Creativity•Practicality/Usefulness•Presentation Style/Communication

Winning entries in each category receive:
•£1000 for the school• iPad for the student•plus more exciting prizes to be announced
How to enter
• 6 shortlisted entrants will be invited to take part in creating an Invent the Future video showcasing their invention for the Your Life YouTube Channel.
• Viewers will be asked to vote for their favourite invention. Videos with the most ‘likes’ will earn points that count towards their final score.
• You can promote your video by sharing with your family/friends and school.
