Welcome from Paul Information Technology The provision of information technology is key to all of our work which requires a comprehensive network of servers and computers. Additionally the Hospice now has numerous separate databases supporting our functions, for example in Finance and Income Generation. The most exciting recent advancement in this area has been the development of electronic patient information using SystmOne which has enabled our clinical colleagues to do away with their paper records not only in the Hospice but also in the local community. SystmOne has also connected the Hospice with the NHS IT system enabling us to communicate with, and even task, local GPs who share the care of our patients. Information Governance Another area of importance is Information Governance which includes IT, but not exclusively, because it also affects what we write and what we say. This has resulted in us all having to undertake associated IG governance training which I commend to all of you as an important aspect of risk management for our organisation. Periodically we require answers to issues and problems we have with the IT system and to streamline Peter’s ability to respond to these requests I would ask that in future you all email those requests to [email protected] from the 5th September onwards. This will enable Peter to efficiently respond to your needs in a prioritised way. However if your issue is an emergency you will of course need to contact him by phone. Peter would value your feedback as to how this new process works. WillenLife News September 2016 CHKS Reminder Please send your completed baseline CHKS templates to Marilyn David by 3rd September 2016.

Welcome from PaulInformation Technology

The provision of information technology is key to all of our work which requires a comprehensive network of servers and computers.

SystmOne has also connected

the Hospice with the NHS IT system enabling us to communicate with, and even task, local GPs who share the care of our patients.

Information Governance

Another area of importance is Information Governance which includes IT, but not exclusively, because it also affects what we write and what we say.

Q: If given the chance who would you like to be for the day?

A: I’d like to be someone that did good and is respected, I’d be Nelson Mandela.

Q: If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

A: Chinese, probably a chow mein.

Q: Describe what you were like at ten years old?

A: Shy! I was a goody two shoes, I always tried to do everything right.

Q: Least favourite food?

A: I’m allergic to some seafood, so I’d say crabs and lobsters.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: Gyming and baking!

Q: What’s the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery?

A: Hmm... It’d be lots of things. First I’d buy a new house, then I’d buy my hubby a boat and, if I have any leftover, I’d buy a car.

Congratulations! Our Director of Business Development Maya has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Women Leaders MK awards 2016 in the Community Impact section. This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the Hospice in the Business Community. We’ll find out if Maya has won on 21st October.

• A cuddly swan with Willen Hospice ribbon

• A certificate with the swan’s unique name on it

• An information pack all about how adopting a swan is helping Willen Hospice

This is a fantastic way for our supporters to remember us and continue to support us.

Jacob’s Journey by Julie Ann Hathway We’re exceptionally grateful to local author Julie Ann Hathway who has donated 200 copies of her book Jacob's Journey to our Willen Hospice shops. A copy can be located in our library.

Julie, a keen writer since childhood, has spent time writing in the UK and Australia where she and her family migrated to for ten years. Julie and her family have a personal connection with the Hospice and are absolutely delighted to find a way to give back to support our care.

Jacob’s Journey is a fantasy adventure for all ages, which tells the tale of young Jacob and his family moving to a new home to discover an exciting adventure of hidden pasts and secrets.

“The old manor house at Maebury has lain empty for almost half a century, its secrets hidden from the world. Within the ruins, the library, largely undisturbed by the passage of time, holds the key to the exciting adventures across time and spatial borders; secrets that can only be unlocked if the house is once again inhabited by a family with a young child who has the courage and determination to take up the challenge.”

Hospice Updates for September • From 1st September – Kitchen/Dining area will be closed between 7:45am and 8:15am, this is so the

area and floors can be thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis.

• 5th September – 29th September – The kitchen will undergo some building works, the catering service will continue to function, however there will be some restrictions to storage and consequently the service provided. Please see the changes to menus and support Phil and his team who will be working under pressure during this time. Be prepared for some changes to biscuits and cakes for example. Normal wonderful service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Phil will be using the upstairs office at the end of the corridor during this period.

If you have any questions or queries, please email Lesley Jolly at [email protected]

Twilight Walk for WillenOur Twilight Walk for Willen this year will be taking place on Sunday 11th September from 6:30pm starting from the Hospice gardens. We’ve received a good number of responses so far and expect a more than reasonable turn out this year.

Participants will join us to light lanterns in memory of loved ones before commencing on a peaceful evening stroll around Willen Lake North, then returning to our gardens for our beautiful memorial lantern display as the sun sets over Willen Lake.
