William Green’s birthday was on November 14, 1911

and he was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire England.

How did he get to Arviat, Nunavut?

He was working in a farm for A.J. Arnold in Boissevain, Manitoba. He then became an “Apprentice clerk” for Hudson’s Bay Company. He then became a self employed “Trapper” from 1935-38 trapping in the Northwest Territories, with his family.

Who was his family? He got married in April 31, 1934 to Mary Kasulratsiak Ollybuk, and had two girls, their names were Emily Edith, now known as Emily Angalik and Irene Elizabeth, now known as Irene Kablutsiak.

Mary Green’s birthday was on June 1897 and she was born in the vicinity of Churchill, Manitoba. His daughter Emily Angalik was born in Eskimo Point, N.W.T, March 6, 1936 and her sister Irene Kablutsiak was born in Churchill, Manitoba on February 26, 1938.

How did he join the war?

On August 1938, he applied to join the R.C.A.F. in Winnipeg Manitoba. He joined the army when war broke-out.

I picked this topic because my great grandfather died with honour by fighting for his country. He believed in himself that he could free his country. I was very proud of him when I first heard that he had served his country. He is buried in Germany.

How did he die?

He was killed in World War 2; he fell out of an airplane during air operations in December 2, 1943 over Berlin, Germany.

Mary and her daughters were living in Churchill when William went to war. She got bomber mail saying that he would not return and he was killed. They moved back to Eskimo Point to live near family.

Today

Today there are many descendents of William Green. Mary Kablutsiak had many children and now there are many people related to her. She passed away in the 1980’s.

Emily Angalik also has many relatives in Arviat she is my Grandmother. She is still here today and is a good grandmother.

Irene Kablutsiak also has many children and relatives in Arviat. My aunt Irene passed away in 2007.
