TODAY’S MATCHUP: Tonight the Cardinals play their final regular season game, with a chance at the postseason on the line. Jewell is on the road at crosstown rival Rockhurst who enters with an overall record of 13-12, and 6-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Cards are 10-18, 5-12 in the
league.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals are coming off a fifth consecutive loss af-ter dropping a 68-57 contest to No. 23 Quincy. Quincy put up a 19 half time lead after going 11-24 from the field and 5-12 from behind the three point line. Jewell meanwhile, shot a dismal 17 percent from the floor in the opening half. Sophomore point guard Hayden Butler prevented things from getting out of hand in the second quarter as she scored eight points, all from the free throw line. Coming out of the break the Cardinals put together a string of buckets but each time they were answered by Quincy. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that things began to unravel for the Hawks and Jewell came roaring back. The Cardinals put together a 9-2 run to pull as close as eight late in the game on three point shots from Zinka Duric and Logan Antenen. The teams traded points over the final minutes to preven the upset. Fresh-man Madison Campbell led the Cardinals with 16 points, three assists, and three steals. Butler added a career-high 13 points, including going 8-10 from the free throw line. Antenen and Maddie Nelson grabbed seven and nine
rebounds respectively as Jewell outrebounded the Hawks 41-40.

Nickerson Stepping UpShooting guard Kelsey Nickerson has picked up her production over the course of the past four games averaging 7.5 points and shooting 44 percent from behind the three-point line. The senior has seen an increase in minutes, including a season high 21 and 14 coming against Quincy and Truman State to help cover for the struggling
Meagan Paul.
Win and You’re InAlthough tonight is the final regu-lar season game it will have a post-season feel as the contest will de-cide the Cardinal’s fate. With a win Jewell will secure the final spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. A loss will sufficiently end the 2015-16 season. Top seeds Lewis, Drury, and Bellarmine have locked up first round byes while Quincy and Truman State will bat-
tle out for the fourth spot.
SCOUTING THE HAWKSRockhurst enters with an overall record of 13-12, including 6-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks enter tonight’s contest having lost their past three games to Truman State, Quincy, and Saint Joseph’s. They are led offensively by senior guard Mary Dineen’s 18.1 points per game, which is fourth in the GLVC. Two other players aver-age in double-figures with Lauren Meyers putting in 12.4 points and Marisa Lowe 10.1 per night. Meyers also pulls down a team leading 6.1 rebounds per game. Point guard Jillian Myers tops the confer-ence with 3.35 steals per night along with fourth in the league with a 4.18 assists per night. Lowe also leads the GLVC with 3.00 three point shots made per contest. The program is led by sixth year head coach Larry Park, who has over 31 years of collegiate experience. He
is assisted by Mike Park and Bennett Yarbrough.
Stopping DineenJust like in the first meeting this season a big key to victory was be stopping the Hawk’s senior point guard Mary Dineen who is fourth in the GLVC with a 18.1 scoring average. In the previous meeting Dineen scored 15, including 11 in the second half, but was hindered by foul trouble for much of the
game.
Careers On the LineWhether the season ends tonight or during the postseason tourna-ment, these are the final games for seniors Zinka Duric, Logan Antenen, Makenize Johnson, and
Kelsey Nickerson.
Turnovers KeyIn the first meeting with the Hawks, Jewell won in convincing fashion. However, one improve-ment to be made today is the turn-over column. In the first meeting the Cards committed 21 turnovers
while forcing just 15.
Defense, Defense, DefenseIn the first meeting in January, Jew-ell held the Hawks to just 49 points, one of just two Division II oppo-nents the Cardinals held under 50 points. The team will again need to be outstanding on the defensive end and hold the sixth rank team in the GLVC under their average of
67 points per game.

WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGEWOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Cardinals are 54-54 overall since officially joining NCAA Division II in the fall of 2011. As an NAIA member, under head coach Jill Slominski the Cardinals won over 300 games, including three Heart of America Conference Championships, and made seven National Tournament
appearances.
A win for the Cardinals would mean moving to 11-18 overall and securing one of the final spots in the GLVC postseason tournament.
CARDINALS ON THE AIR
Live video streaming of Cardinal home events in foot-ball, soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball became a reality in 2011-12, as well as the live broadcast of Jewell’s graduation in May of 2012 and 2013. During the winter of 2012, live swimming was added to the production schedule, with the first Jewell tennis match broadcast in January of 2015. There have also been nearly 1200 videos posted to the Jewell athletic website, www.JewellCardinals.com, produced by Rick Cole, director of broadcasting and community engage-ment, and the William Jewell College Sports Network. Jewell also was named winner of the Great Lakes Valley Conference 2011-12 Award of Excellence for their participation and coverage of a significant community engagement activity during their first year in the conference. In 2012 through 2014, Jewell home events that are streamed on the Jewell athletic website were also seen on Time-Warner Cable Sports Channel throughout the region. Beginning in the 2013-14 school year, the WJCSN has featured as many as six different cameras to cover events, and has expanded to slow-motion replays and on-screen graphics as well. Workers on the live broadcast staff are mainly Jewell work-study students who train and work as part of their finan-cial aid package at Jewell. “I think our online telecasts are the best in the GLVC,” said Cole. “It’s a tribute to the College for allowing me to pro-duce coverage in the way I think suits us best, and to the stu-dents at Jewell for executing the plan.” Cole is also an intrical part of the development of the GLVC Sports Network and helps broadcast multiple conference championship events.
A loss for the Cardinals would mean falling to 5-13 in the GLVC and end the 2015-16 season.
