First XI
Marist, 6/120, defeated Grammar, 6/119 – T20 18 November
Marist Heat faced a very competitive Canberra Grammar team into a
tough game on Friday night. Grammar won the toss and sent Marist in to bat. The boys got off to a slow start against some inform Grammar
bowlers but still managed to keep the score board ticking over. Things
took a turn when Hamish came to the crease adding an impressive 19 runs off 15
balls, including three fours. Will and Riley
also helped the score along with another couple of well-timed fours.
Grammar‘s bowling however was very impressive and were able to take 8 wickets from the Marist boys before their innings was over. After a short break
to refuel on sausages the Marist boys took to the field and while you could

Parking at the College
No parking is permitted the verges on Melrose Drive, Marr Street and Athllon Drive next to the College. Parking inspectors monitor these areas. Park in the grounds of the College when attending training or games.

The College Facilities Manager has delegated authority to manage College facilities.
Instructions issued by the Caretaker to club members and visitors to the College need to be followed.
Cars are to be parked in designated car parks only. No parking on the grass.
No dogs are allowed on College premises.
The Facilities Manager is employed to not only protect College facilities but to assist visitors to the College. He works
with the clubs to ensure their activities run smoothly and does so in a friendly and professional manner.
The Club expects that all Marist players, team officials and supporters will act in accordance with any instructions and
requests made by the Facilities Manager on behalf of the College.
clearly see an improvement in the accuracy of Marist’s bowling, unfortunately Grammar took full advantage
hitting the boys for countless fours. Happily, when not being hit for fours the boys’ accuracy did lead to
some great direct hits to the stumps with Kyle, Noah, Xavier, Will, and Riley all taking a wicket. In the end Grammar was just too good and won the game comfortably, but Marist never gave up and the support and
encouragement they showed each other in the game is to be commended.
Marist Sixers, 9/88, defeated by Queanbeyan Blues, 4/133 – 15 November 2019
The Marist Sixers welcomed the team from across the border at Phillip oval and once again won the bat flip
and elected to bat. The boys produced their best batting performance of the season hitting a few boundaries, defending their wicket and taking on the fielding. A couple of times they were a bit too keen with the
running and were run out by a very well drilled Queanbeyan team. Best with the bat were Logan Bray hitting
some huge boundaries (12) and Mitch Corkran (8).
In the field the boys were very unlucky to miss a few catching opportunities and came up against some really good batting from Queanbeyan. That being said the boys bowled much straighter this week and kept the
sundries down, with Oscar Moore bowling his first maiden of the season. Best bowling was Mitch Corkran
and Tom Bolton both taking 1/20 from their 3 overs and Max Spiller also bowling an opposition player out in his first over.
The boys continue to improve every week and are working hard at training, the parents can all feel a break
through victory is just around the corner.
Marist Stars, 6/57, defeated by CGS Strikers.
The Marist u/10 stars played the Canberra Grammar Strikers at Grammar. Grammar won the toss and sent us
into bat. Will Kemp and William Crompton opened up the batting and both played well against some straight
bowling. Both Batsmen finding the fence a couple of times each with some good shots. All of the Stars
batsmen played some good shots throughout their innings showing encouraging improvement. Christian scored a well-played 14 runs , Oliver , Lucas and Reeve all scored 7 apiece.
We finished with 6/57.
William Crompton threw the gloves on for his first stint behind the stumps and Christian opened up the bowling for us.
As was the case last week against another Grammar side, their batsmen were quite good and picked off our
bowling a little too easily giving our guys plenty of fielding practice.
Our fielding was much improved on last week with the boys starting to get and awareness of backing up, ground fielding was also good with some solid shots stopped by Reeve, Christian and Lucas, the highlight of
our time in the field was a great catch taken by Lucas at deep square leg.
So some good fielding effecting a few run outs and some good catches were not enough to stop the Strikers exceeding our total.
The game was enjoyed by all the boys and played in good spirits.
We will work on our bowling this week in the nets. Looking forward to next week’s game.

Under 11
Division 1

The under 11 division 1 team bowled first on the weekend. Jack took the new ball and bowled well taking 3
wickets for 18 runs.

All the boys bowled well conceding very few runs for the entire innings. The highlight of the innings was the
catching with Thomas, Jack and Gab all taking catches. There were also several runouts involving direct
hits. Harry, Jacks brother filled in for us in the field and was an absolute superstar saving us many runs. Marist limited Wests to a total of 103.
With the bat all boys batted well. Conall, Sam, Amir and Gab all scored runs in the twenties. Thomas made a
quality 32 from his 20 balls. Conall and Thomas hit big sixes. However the highlight of the innings was Jack blasting 44 not out from his 20 balls.
Jack batted beautifully hitting 6 4’s and 2 big sixes. Marist scored a huge 215 runs from the bat.
Batting: Luke Gill 34, Jake Munyard 20, Daniel Coffey 20 (20 balls) Marist Light (6/190) defeated Marist Royal (12/137)
On a picture perfect Friday evening the U11 Marist Light boys were looking forward to seeing their
classmates in the opposing side, Marist Royal. Royal won the toss and elected to field and Daniel Coffey and Jack Austin opened up the batting with Jack scoring a 4 off the second ball! Both boys found consistency
early on, Danny hitting back-to-back fours and each boy making their opponents work hard to keep the run
tally down. Ignatius Murray didn't let a blood nose hold him back and although he had to come off early, he bounced back and returned to the crease and added a more runs to his total. Luke quickly stepped in to
replace Iggy and was able to score a career best seven 4's and he and Jake closed the innings with a
partnership of 50 runs. Marist Royal were impressive in the field, taking six wickets and the boys closed the
innings with a season high of 143 runs. Concerned the boys wouldn't have much left in the tank due to their large run tally and the warm weather the
boys did not disappoint in the field by collecting a season high 12 wickets. The boys were down a man in the
field, but true to the Marist way, the Royal's kindly rotated one of their boys in our field line up. The boys' fielding skills have improved exponentially, with run outs and catches the main method of wicket taking
during the innings, highlights include Alex as wicket keeper taking a catch from the batter's skier, Jake and
Luke getting direct hits for run outs and Jack and Luke taking exciting catches in the field, including a single hander by Luke! The boys faced one of their toughest opponents on Friday thus far this season, and were
lucky to come away with the win. The talent and sportsmanship on display by both teams is testament to the
excellent coaching and values harnessed by the Marist Cricket Club.
Marist Navy, defeated by Eastlake Lions.
Marist Navy fell 36 runs short in a competitive, high quality game against Eastlake Lions last Friday night.
Captain Sam lost the toss and was asked to field first in blustery conditions. The bowling effort started perfectly with a ‘Jimmy special’ hitting top of off stump first ball. From that point onwards the competition
between bat and ball was a constant. Eastlake batted positively and ran aggressively and for their part the
Navy boys stuck to the task bowling economically and supporting each other in the field. The best of the
bowling came from Sam Morgan this week whose hard training and persistence paid off with an impressive 3/12 from 3 overs. Other wicket takers included, James Bartlett 1/4 (2), Griffin Sluis 1/8 (3) and Dominic
Trinca Talalin 1/15 (3) – who also provided an excellent run out from his own bowling. In addition, great
catches from Dom and Thomas in the outfield helped keep Eastlake Lions to 7/99 at the compulsory close. The Navy boys began their run chase with Aidan Doyle (5) and Thomas Acheson (5) running well between
wickets and laying a good foundation for the innings. The middle order followed suit with excellent
contributions from Patrick Bartlett (8), Lachlan Green (6) and our top scorer Griffin Sluis (10). Notably, the partnership between Griffin and Lachlan produced an over yielding 13 runs, our best effort of the season to
date. For the entire innings the Navy boys were well and truly in the contest however a total of 5 run outs
(including three direct hits from the outfield) curtailed the advance. In the end, against an impressive
Eastlake bowling and fielding effort, the Navy fell short scoring 9/71. The adjusted scores therefore read: Eastlake Lions 135 vs Marist Navy 99. Well done boys on a very strong
effort against excellent opposition.

Marist Royal, 12/137, defeated by Marist Light, 6/190.
Batting: Will Rees 28, Edwin Tijo 23, Braydon Wright 15 Bowling: Edwin Tijo 3/14, Edward Kimpton 1/9, Braydon Wright 1/7
The U11 Light Team were the best opponents we have faced this year and to hit 13 boundaries against their
bowlers was a great effort. Our tail wagged beautifully after the top order had soaked up the very good bowling of the Light side. Braydon Wright picked up where he left off last week, scoring at a strike rate of
83. Edwin Tijo finished the innings with flare scoring 23 in a willing run chase, eclipsed only just by Will
Rees who notched our top score so far. James Wright's 9 with the bat was a sign of what he is capable of, and
his good form extended to strong fielding and tight bowling. Well done James. The Light boys fielding probably made the big difference and showed us a good benchmark to aim for. We will improve on our
running between wickets and lose fewer wickets. Our own fielding wasn't bad though, with Brayden, Edward
and Will each taking difficult catches. Edwin took 3/14 in another great spell. Edward Kimpton and Braydon also bowled very nicely with 1/9 and 1/7 respectively, Braydon getting some swing, according to the umpire.
Hard to bowl spin against big hitters, but Hamish Todd landed plenty of good balls and wasn't deterred by
the opponent batsmen. Our team count on wides and no balls was down from last week. Still hoping to crack
100 straight ones. Rowan Koina was dependable with bat, ball and gloves as usual. Good effort boys, and played in good spirit.
Marist Teal, 10/43, defeated by WCMCC Renegades, 3/137. Batting: Taj 10, Xander 8, Harry 3 no
Bowling: Ignatius 1/22
Some match highlights - Ignatius for his bowling with a great delivery in hitting the middle stump, 2 run outs by Harry and Xander and a 4 off
the last ball of the match by Taj.
There was some great running between wickets during our batting
innings. The boys are also beginning to move their feet and play some straight bat shots. We still have work to do on bowling straight which
will reduce the wides and no balls, and our fielding –
backing up and catching. Well done and keep up the good work and make the
calls load and strong to get the extra runs!
Also good job to the boys for the training before the match and during the break and thanks to Oscar for
helping with the fielding practice.

Division 1

Under 13
Division 1
Marist Blue, 3/232, defeated Eastlake Demons 135.

Batting: Will 39 retired not out; Alex 22 not out; Theo 21 retired not out On a mild Sunday morning, captain Owen won the toss and sent Grammar in to bat. On this well-prepared
Grammar ground we were sure to see plenty of runs scored.
Owen opened the bowling with Will. Owen was tight in his two over spell, and Will fired some fierce fast
deliveries which rattled the batters as well as Kirby our wicketkeeper! Alex and Joe were next in the attack. Alex picked up the first two wickets, one bowled and one caught by
Will. Joe was able to keep the run rate down in his first spell.
Theo and Ross came into the attack and Theo took the next wicket, caught behind by Kirby. Then there was a drought in wickets but a flurry of boundaries, until Jack picked up the important wicket of
their best batsmen. Shortly after Omkar clean bowled the incoming batter. Omkar was able to slow down
the run rate a little with his spell.
Then Joe came back into the attack with a two wicket over, thanks to catches from Ross and Jack, with Jack scooping up a fantastic low trajectory catch to dismiss their retired opener who had returned to the crease.
Ross skittled the stumps to pick up the final wicket in the 28th over, while Grammar has set an impressive
target of 197. The boys held five catches which is an improvement on the prior week, where a number of chances went to
ground.
Jack and Kirby opened the batting and got Marist off to a good start, until both were run out in quick succession.
Omkar and Ross put together a strong partnership, with Omkar retiring and Ross unfortunately losing his
wicket with only one ball left before retiring.
Theo and Will knew what had to be done and started to build on the run rate with 10 boundaries between them, until Theo retired not out.
Joe scored some quick singles and a boundary, but was unlucky to be caught behind.
Alex came to the crease and continued the run scoring with Will, until Will retired as the top scorer with 39. Owen came in to bat at the start of the last over and kept the scoreboard ticking over, with Owen and Alex
finishing as the not out batsmen.
Marist scored 166 from the full 30 overs, which was a good chase, but not quite enough to reach the impressive target set by Grammar.
Batting: Noah Polishuk 28, Archie Webb 28, Jake Leonard 19 and Tyler Morison 15 Bowling: Christy Ealias 3/4
This week the boys were back at Deakin to face the Eastlake Hawks. After
winning the toss the Hawks elected to bat first. Our bowlers did a great job restricting the run rate of Eastlake. Christy Ealias again showed great skill
and took three wickets and was supported well by Noah Polishuk, Ronin
Gilmore and Tyler Morison. Noah displayed great wicket keeping skills and
stumped two of the Eastlake players. With consistent bowling and a great effort in the field the boys were able to limit the runs of Eastlake to 83.
The boys knew the run chase was achievable and all the boys ran hard for their
team mates and scored 134. Batting highlights of the innings were Anderson Bush who achieved his first retirement of the season, Noah Polishuk and Archie Webb
both scoring an entertaining 28 runs each. Also Jake Leonard scored 19 runs and
Tyler Morison scored 15. It was great to see how excited and happy the boys were after their first win of the
season. Well done Marist Navy.

Under 14
Division 1
Marist, defeated Eastlake. Eastlake won the toss and elected to bowl and got away to a good start with a wicket in the first over.
However it was slim pickings from there as Imran and Dan put on a terrific
partnership of 89, with Imran registering the team’s first fifty for the season
and Dan scoring 27. Good tempo contributions from Jackson, Lachie and Kai saw us well placed at 3-148 after 25 overs.
Cian and James opened the bowling
with James taking wickets in the third and fifth overs, and then regular
wickets falling until the end of day one with Mack, Sam and Kai (x2)
amongst the action courtesy of some good catching and ground fielding and Eastlake on 7 for 75.
Day two saw perfect conditions for cricket
and the boys set about finishing off the tail. A fierce opening spell from James saw
him take the last three wickets registering a superb 5-12 from 6.4 overs, courtesy of two terrific catches behind the stumps to Jackson. We resumed our first innings
with a lead of 60 and Lachie and Kai immediately set the tempo with
good aggressive running adding 41 to the score before a mix up saw Lachie depart. Kai fell agonisingly close to a 50 which brought Sehaj
and James to the crease. Fireworks ensued as the pair put on a 100 run partnership in quick time,
with James retiring on a magnificent 54 from 32 and Sehaj unfortunately bowled on 46 from 45. Unfortunately Eastlake was struggling for numbers at this point as a couple of players had to
leave early, and a big thanks to some of our boys who filled in for them in the field. A late flurry
saw us finish our 50 overs on 7-329, a very pleasing batting performance.
That left 18 overs to push for an outright victory and Mack got us started in ideal fashion with a wicket on the third ball, followed by a double
wicket maiden from Cian in the next over. Mack kept the pressure up and
Sam bowled with great loop and was rewarded with a brilliant stumping from Jackson and the score was 5-8 after five overs. Some
stoic batting from Eastlake carried the game along until the
14th over, with Dan and Lachie very unlucky not to pick up
wickets. Kai eventually broke the partnership with a great catch from Mack and fittingly it was James who took their final wicket finishing with 6 for the match.
A very dominant performance in securing victory by an innings and 215 runs, but more
importantly some very pleasing team aspects in batting and bowling coming together.
Marist Blue showed their team spirit playing well against WCMCC to win convincingly on a pleasant Wednesday evening at Duffy. Fielding first Marist made WCMCC work hard for their 78 runs, taking 8
wickets. Fraser Lehmann 3/7, Ethan Lenihan 2/8 and Eric Firth 2/7 bowled consistently and accurately
throughout WCMCC’s innings. Owen Hardy had another great batting innings making 36 from 35 balls,
making some fine shots and finding the boundary six times. Ahameed Ilhaam also made some quick runs hitting 16 from 17 balls.
Marist Blue, 5/121, defeated Ginninderra, 8/18 - Sunday 17th November Another convincing win for Marist Blue, the team showing their developing strength in the field with
accurate bowling and wonderful fielding. Marist were sent into bat reaching 121 with the loss of 5 wickets.
Well done to Henry Smyth who retired on 19 and Eric Firth who retired on 33. Bowling continued to be a strength for Eric Firth 2/3 and Ahameed Ilhaam 3/2.
Marist Royal, 5/92, defeated St Edmunds College, 10/91.
A fair Spring day at Rivett 104 Oval was the setting for for a Marist/Eddies grudge match between the two
top teams in the draw with both on 17 points but Eddies ahead on percentages. In a match where the ball
dominated the bat both teams experienced a regular fall of wickets through excellent fielding pressure thanks to very good bowling and outstanding ground fielding. Bowling first - a Marist Royal team depleted by
injury and sickness, but supplemented by the wider Marist brotherhood, put on an outstanding bowling and
fielding performance that saw the first wicket fall on the first ball to a sharp overhead catch at mid off by Vansh Malhotra off Callum Samaranayaka. This set the scene for a fielding effort that would see the stumps
thrown down from the outfield on no less than four occasions resulting in one run out and a couple of very
close decisions in favour of Eddies. Some good catches were taken which supported an excellent individual
display by Josh Nuss of 4 wickets for 6 runs off 4.5 overs and one very good overhead outfield catch at long on. This fielding effort put Marist in the box seat with Eddies all out for 91 off 27.5 overs.
In a replay of the first wicket of the day Marist too lost their first wicket off the first ball however an
excellent partnership between Armav Gupta and Josh Nuss saw the next wicket fall at 21 where Armav was run out to some excellent ground fielding from the Eddies boys but not before playing a sublime late cut
backward of point for a boundary. Josh continued with Bede Cuddihy and together they put on 47 runs for
the third wicket (3/74). Bede plundered the bowling with some big hitting achieving 33 not out off 36 balls.
This effort broke the back of the innings and despite a couple of quick wickets late in the innings (again to some excellent bowling and ground fielding by Eddies) Marist Royal were victorious achieving 5/92 off just

without doubt Josh Nuss with 4 wickets, a catch and 24 off the bat.

A hard fought match resulting in a 26 run victory against one of the benchmark teams of the competition in
Queanbeyan had a number of swings and momentum changes as 2 good cricket sides went head to head. Bowling first, Marist kept Queanbeyan to 2/45 in their first 12, but wayward bowling and a loss in
concentration meant that Queanbeyan finished their 25 overs at 3/107. Using this momentum, tight bowling
and a slow wicket meant that the Marist batters struggled to turn the strike over. Jacob Scholtens (33 ret.) was just getting going after doing the hard yards when he had to retire. Marist finished the day’s play on 3/74
with plenty to do but as they would bat first the following week, they were well and truly in a position to
drive the game forward.
Queanbeyan’s bowlers seemed to lose their line and length over the week break, as Akshay Joseph (49) picked up the pace with the bat. The loss of Lachlan Ashe (playing his last game for the College) and Nick
Honeyman cheaply, meant that the lower order had to step up and take responsibility. They did this in spades
with James Martens (44no), Luke Golder (23) and timely contributions from Nick Kent and Jeremy Firth enabling a total of 9/233 of the allotted 50 overs, leaving Queanbeyan 130 runs of their 25 overs.
The bowlers started well, Akshay Joseph (4/36) and Nick Kent using a slow wicket to bowl full and straight
and with a solid mid-innings partnership broken just before the drinks break, the bowlers had exerted enough pressure on Queanbeyan to cause a wobble. Tight bowling and 2 run outs through direct hits was more than
enough to close the game out with Marist coming from behind in a memorable victory to send Lachlan Ashe
out a winner!

Marist, 3/94, defeated CGS, 90.

Division 2
Marist, All out for 241, defeated by Ginninderra, 9/248 - Two Day Game.

A nail-biter two day game against Ginninderra at Hughes oval over the past two weekends. Ginninderra were sent in to bat and managed 2 for
172 in their first 25 overs, with one of their batters amassing a 91. Marist

went in for their 25 overs and lost some quick cheap wickets before Jack Jeffery and Jimmy Bolton steadied
the ship. Marist finished Day 1 at 4/107.
Marist had 2 extra wickets down and were 65 runs short after Day 1. Day two, Marist commenced the innings with Jack and
Jimmy piling on the runs for a great partnership. Harry
Miller, Charlie Cooper, Sam McGregor and Antho Egan all wagged the tail and Marist finished with a pleasing 241- a
lead of 69.
Marist bowlers had their best performance - particularly
Charlie Cooper and Joe Carroll who started to panic the opposition. Ginninderra have 5 overs left…. With one
wicket in hand… and needed 2 runs to win…… and disappointingly
for Marist, Ginninderra edged one through the slips for the winning runs. A nail biter but a great performance on Day 2 from the Marist
lads!

Batters: James Bolton 54 n.o, Joe Carroll 39. The first win for the season against Ginninderra played in excellent spirits. The Marist lads bowled tightly
and fielded well on a fast Marist outfield. Great bowling by Marist restricted Ginninderra to less than 6 an
over and Marist batters finished the job with some big hitting. A great team performance and pleasing to chalk up the first win of the year.

CODE OF CONDUCT The Club is committed to promoting cricket and the personal development of our players in accordance with
the College ethos, the highest standards of sportsmanship and the Laws and Spirit of Cricket.
Codes of Behaviour and Courtesy
The Marist Sports Policy covers a code of behaviour for:
players;
coaches;
parents; and
spectators.

Additionally the game of cricket has certain traditions which have been developed over the years. The Preamble to the Laws of Cricket stresses that the game ‘should be played not only within its Laws but
also within the Spirit of the Game’.
Participants, players and officials alike, must conduct themselves, at all times, in accordance with the
Laws of Cricket and the ACTCA Junior Council Competition Rules. In the words of Donald Bradman: “it is the responsibility of all those that play the game (the
custodians) to leave the game in a better state than when they first became involved.”
Coaches and managers of the younger age teams should reinforce this aspect of the game.
No smoking or drinking
Coaches and managers should not smoke or drink alcohol at games or during training. Parents are
requested not to drink while a match is in progress.
Undertaking by Committee and coaches/managers
All Club office bearers will abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct and work to promote the best
interests of the Club and College. Committee Members will sign an undertaking to this effect at the
beginning of each season. Coaches and Managers will also sign this undertaking.
Parents and supporters
All parents and Club supporters are expected to abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct and promote the
best interests of the Club and College.
Parents are entitled to raise with the coach or manager any concerns or issues they may have with the approach or conduct of the team management. This must not be done in front of players. Parents
may also raise such concerns with the Committee.
Parents must ensure boys are picked up on time, taking into account possible early finishes and wet weather, so that players and coaches/managers are not left waiting for long periods for parents to
arrive.
Breach of Code of Conduct
Any breach of the Code of Conduct by a player, team official, parent or Club supporter should be
referred to the Committee through the age group coordinator for consideration and appropriate action.
Serious and/or repeated breaches by players may result in offenders being stood down from part or all
of a match. While suspended, a player may not play in any match for the Club during the period of the suspension.
Serious or repeated breaches by a team official may result in the official being removed from their
position with the team. The Club may ask a parent or supporter who breaches the Code to absent themselves from future
games.
Any person reported to the Committee shall be invited to present their case to the Committee prior to
the Committee coming to a decision on the matter. The Committee may appoint a sub-committee to investigate reported breaches of the Code of Conduct. Any findings of the sub-committee shall be
provided to the full Committee for appropriate action. If necessary, a special Committee meeting may
be called to consider the matter. Any breach of the Code reported to the Committee shall be passed on to the College through the
appropriate Junior or Senior Cricket Coordinator.
Any sanction applied by the Committee shall be referred to the College through the Cricket Coordinator.
As a nominated official of the Marist Cricket Club Canberra, I agree to abide by the Club’s Code of
Conduct and at all times to promote the interests of the Club and Marist College.
